That's semi-promising, but why wouldn't he just fly direct from Amsterdam to Southampton. I know it's possible because I was looking at doing it last year while on holidays. It's got nothing to do with having heads in the sand. It's more of a recognition that there's a long way to go until August and I have no control over what happens anyway. As for international player sales, most of the people on this board (not including me) want Ramirez gone anyway so if he IS sold will that make you more or less happy? Anyway this discussion is about a potential new manager. There are plenty of other threads about the competence or otherwise of the board. Outstanding post mate. I've actually started to feel a bit of this negativity in the past few days, but you have reminded me to keep it all in perspective. Despite all the speculation we just don't know what is going to happen. Regardless come August we'll be playing in the PL, and I still believe/hope/expect to have a competitive team to do it.

Honestly I would take any of Yakin, Laudrop, De Boer or Moyes. I know Moyes would be the least preferred among most, but honestly I would settle for a few years of dull consistency. His record at Everton was pretty solid, albeit with a bigger budget. Yes he had a sh*t season at Old Trafford, but they were bound to drop sharply this season anyway I would argue. Still be more than happy with any of the other three. I wouldn't want another English manager right now though.
