Saints only Premier League club not to sign up to FA diversity code
saintwbu replied to saintwbu's topic in The Saints
Good to see Tyrone Mings suggesting players won’t sign for clubs who don’t sign up to this code. Presumably they’ll look at us and say ‘yeah i know you’ve got a higher level of diversity than every other club in the league, but i’m going to sign for Everton because they’ve signed up to the code, although they haven’t actually fulfilled any of the criteria it’s the token gesture that counts for me’. Always good to take lessons on morality from players who have a propensity to stamp on people’s head. -
As above, Saints only Prem club not to sign up, citing not enough time given to consider the proposal properly. No doubt the headline is going to generate some idiots slating us, but glad we aren’t just doing token gestures because we already satisfy a lot of the criteria already. Daily Mail Article

Almost all his games for United have been as a left back, and he seems almost completely two footed, so I guess he was seen as good cover for both sides.
-
Scrap that - yesterday was the best he’s played for us! I’m a big fan. You could see the confidence draining from him as the season progressed last year, and the chances started to disappear too. At Fratton Park you could see his frustration, he looked embarrassed to get the applause of the crowd at the end. He’s now looking like the striker we bought. Good movement, good hold up play, puts pressure on the opposition defence all the time and is now finding the net too. Think he’ll get better and better.
-
I also liked that when someone had a shot from distance (can’t remember who) he was following up incase Pickford spilt it (he almost did). Simple, but so many players don’t do it, and shows that natural strikers instinct.
-
Been hoping to see him for a while, think he got injured last season at a time he was probably on the brink of getting a chance. Really hope this is the first of a few appearances in months to come.

As you say, the pundits said it was a red. So why are loads of them saying Digne’s wasn’t, when it was much, much worse? (not to say Romeu’s wasn’t a red, but this was far worse)
-
Incredibly underrated. Normally needs a couple of games to get going when he hasn’t played in a while, but once he’s up to speed he rarely lets us down. Been one of the stars post-lockdown, and MOTM in 3 of the 6 games so far this season imo. One of the best £5mil we have ever spent.

That’s just who donated - it doesn’t mean only 1,300 boycotted the PPV
-
Anyone still think crowds don’t make a difference? When people say 32,000 people groaning can affect the team, I think the current results suggest they may have a point..

Agree with previous comments, Grealish is a fantastic footballer. Not very ‘English’ in style, very elegant, ball sticks to his feet and the game seems to just slow down for him. Love watching him, hope we don’t waste him. Delighted for Ings, great goal within 4 minutes of not being shoved out wide. Prowsey looked good too.

Will never forget walking out of St Mary’s after the first game of the season drawing against Swansea to hear people say ‘well that was much better than last season’. The denial was bemusing, it was dreadful from day one.
-
That’s not true, Bournemouth fans loved him.

Wilshere has been released so doesn’t come into ‘cheeky punt before deadline’ territory as we could sign him whenever we want. Danny Rose is obviously available, but couldn’t be further from Ralph’s idea of a player with a positive attitude. Imagine it’ll be Yedlin.

Pretty hard to deny tbf, as he mentioned he was spot on with all the kit/sponsor details.

All gone a bit quiet - We thinking Walcott and Walcott only? Groß would’ve been nice but not seen any reliable link
-
Ralph seemed to say something yesterday about needing another ‘number 6’? So not sure why we’re getting so many links to full backs
-
Groß definitely has an eye for a pass, which is something we lack particularly in home games against teams sitting deep. I can’t see it happening, but personally i’d be very pleased with it.
-
Is it possible Ralph sees something in Williams that would make him a viable option for one of the attacking positions too? If he can play either side of full back and in a forward position, then it may make sense to bring him in as a good utility. Otherwise, I can’t see it makes much sense to use our only Prem loan on a back up full back when we have one for each side already.
-
Easy to forget that RLC’s only sustained period of first team football was a season at Palace which got him a start in the World Cup for England, which shows how good he was that season. I really think he’s exactly what we’re missing, someone to provide some forward impetus from midfield. I agree with above that he would be an Armstrong/Redmond competition, but also think he could play slightly deeper/more central and offer us a plan B in terms of formation and game plan, particularly at home against the weaker teams. We’ve lacked a midfielder who can pass forward and he can do that.

3 GK’s 2 RB’s 4 CB’s 2 LB’s 4 CM’s (Diallo included) 4 AM/Wingers (assuming Boufal goes, and counting Tella) 4 Forwards I think we’re one AM/Winger away from pretty good quality depth really. An Ings injury is a concern of course, but most clubs don’t have one prolific striker let alone a reliable backup. I think we now have 4 competent CB’s if Salisu turns out to be decent. A competent full back as cover for each side (Valery and Vokins) albeit long term injuries to KWP or Berty would be a concern for me. I think a Loftus Cheek type AM who can also play CM in games where we’re on the front foot, I think would be ideal, but be surprised if we get him.
-
I know we all moan but I genuinely do have more faith that Ralph wouldn’t let us sign any old shit like we have in the past. Djenepo, Adams, KWP and Salisu are his only signings so far right? Personally i’m a big fan of the first three (appreciate jury is still out for some) and Salisu comes with a lot of optimism. I don’t see us signing a Hoedt or Carrillo under Ralph, more likely we would prefer not to sign anyone at all. Thus I do get quite excited when we have new arrivals under him, but i’m sure i’m setting myself up for disappointment now!

Worrying lack of sideways passes in his youtube montage, he’ll never cut it here

Leicester have brought in £150m+ in transfer fees in recent years. We used to do that kind of thing, until we started buying players that we can’t even give away.
