He answered more questions than Johnson who, as ever, was all bluster, deflection and sound bites. Politicians all tell you what they want to tell you, not what you want them to tell you. Perhaps this time people will vote based on policies rather than personalities but I doubt it. It seems as if we are turning into a mini America with our very own mini me PM.

He did answer the question. He is leaving it to the public to decide between a new deal and remaining. Why would he campaign for one or the other if he is going with what the public want?

The host wasn’t great but then if they don’t answer the question or talk too long she had to do something. Agree about the audience. It adds atmosphere to the proceedings but they do distract from the responses.

Why would anyone who has seen the interviews of people flooded out of their homes think it appropriate to boo at that point?

That would usually be by choice would it not? The Speaker doesn’t have a choice.

Given that 650 MPs are returned there will always be plenty of experienced people to choose from. Also why do the Speakers have to be MPs? Why not have experienced civil servants doing the job? That way every MP is properly elected and every MP gets to vote on issues in the House. Given the way you carry on about “democracy” I would have thought you would be in total agreement.
