  1. I should add that despite Thatcher stating that we don’t talk to terrorists, apparently there were plenty of discussions with them behind closed doors.
  2. As Churchill said, “jaw jaw is better than war war.” As unpalatable as it is to talk to people like that it is the only way to get a peace agreement.
  3. I think it would have helped if May had put a cross party committee together and had made an effort to involve Parliament in the negotiating process from day 1. It was always going to be a tough ask getting any sort of deal through but not only did she manage to fail to win over the opposition, she also alienated many in her own party.
  4. Trying to find a positive tonight. We still have time to put things right...
  5. My feelings too.
  6. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves tonight. Many of them have represented their countries. How can they then go out and perform like this?
  7. Over the years I have been described as a happy clapper and I accept that I have always tried to find a level of optimism. Tonight I am a beyond being embarrassed. WTF is going on here?
  8. The only upside is that something has to change, big time, now.
  9. Neither of them were on the pitch. The players are responsible.
  10. He is a good manager. Your choice of Fat Sam would do no better with this lot.
  11. Good to see the Grammar Police still at it while the team are being demolished
  12. Pellegrino is available
  13. If SFC was a horse they would of shot it by now.
  14. I am old enough to remember when we were difficult to beat at home but were pants away. Now I wish we played all our games away.
  15. Ralph has probably realised that we arent going to score 6 so has gone for damage limitation.
  16. I hadn’t thought of that but yes, that would be a problem.
  17. I had not long started working for The Guardian when my Dad phoned me up. He never phoned me at work so I was expecting bad news. It came as a very pleasant surprise.
  18. The problem is the number of cars on the road v our expenditure on infrastructure to accommodate them. From the day it opened the M25 wasn’t fit for purpose. Planers hadn’t factored in people jumping on and off for one or two junctions. Utilised the hard shoulder is a relatively cheap way to give you another lane. The issue is that it is there for a completely different purpose and provides a crucial space for those who need it. The emergency vehicles couldn’t get to the accident I saw for ages do to there not being a hard shoulder for them to drive on. They had to work their way through the traffic jam.
  19. It is terrifying enough stopping on the hard shoulder for both the driver and the recovery vehicle. Multiply that by 1000 for breaking down with no hard shoulder. You would think with the models they can build with today’s technology they could have seen what a bad idea this is. Just a few weeks ago there was a guy on tv saying how safe they were. Now we are told that they are not being rolled out, clearly because they are not safe. I drove by a fatality a few weeks ago on the M20. I can’t say that it was the result of being “smart” but this was a very dangerous motorway at the best of times. Now I use the A20 in preference. We have also the extra problem of Operation Brock. Over 20 miles of a single lane of the M20 will be turned into a lorry park post Brixit so we have lost another lane anyway (it has been blocked off since the last Brexit exit point in March).
  20. Good luck to him. Not cut out for Premiership football but clearly can play. I hope he does well at Celtic so we can get some money for him. FF too.
  21. Too smart for the public it would seem as they are not now going to roll them out. For me this was an idea that should never of left the drawing board. Hard shoulders are not overly safe but they are a lot safer than no hard shoulders. My local motorway is the M20 (soon to become a lorry car park if Brexit gets done). It is a smart motorway and it is a nightmare. It doesn’t help with all of the left hand drive lorries from the continent using it, but we have had several fatalities on it recently despite being told that they are safer. Good news that they are not rolling them out. I just hope that they dump them all together and return the current ones to normal motorways.
  22. So we have learnt nothing from the Jo Cox murder. The right wing press take much of the blame. Their inflammatory headlines and anti EU bias have been nagging away for years. The headlines recently have been a disgrace. Johnson’s rhetoric about surrender and traitors doesn’t help. I have lost count of the times I hear “get Brexit done” everyday as if it will all end if he gets this deal signed off. Even members of the audience were quoting it on Question Time last night. We are in an unholy mess and a GE is not likely to make things any less messy.
  23. It does make sense, but unfortunately good sense seems to have died a death under the current Government.
  24. You strange boy. I wasn’t making it up. I work part time for a guy who always used to vote Tory. Last election he voted LibDem. This time he says he will vote Labour. He is a remainer.
  25. A 12th December election? The Boris Who Stole Christmas.
