I don't know. How much control did he have last season compared to this?
-
Why do some of our fans insist that our failures are down to Reed? Despite our rise over the last 7 seasons at some point some fans have complained about our lack of ambition. Every season. When we were getting promoted it was because we didn't go up as Champions. When we appointed a manager it was because it wasn't someone super special. There is no pleasing some people. Reed isn't superman, but he isn't the total **** that many like to make him out either. Oh, and Cortese seems to be given plenty of praise about our rise from the ashes, if he gets the praise for that why cant Reed bask in some of the glow too?
-
Yet Reed supported Puel in buying Pied, Boufal, Gabbiadini, and Hassen? Not doing a very good job of not supporting him there. Perhaps he should have known that Austin would be out for months, that Redmond, Tadic, Long and JRod would miss so many chances between them, that Vardy would nobble VVD. Oh, and he didn't sell JRod. We were clearly trying to get a CH in and for some reason that didn't happen. Perhaps we should wait until we know why that didn't happen before we start sharpening the pitchforks?

You are so right. The last seven years have been a complete disaster.

So as one of the "gullible" perhaps you would like to explain to me how you know that your version of events is correct? Thanks.

Nathan Redmond named England Under-21 player of the year 2016

Explain to me in what way I was celebrating? As there was a Saints connection with both winners I mentioned it as a Saints double. Nothing to do with a celebration. Nothing to do with Walcott scoring against us. So yes, strange. -

And Lallana voted player of the year. A saints double. -
Crap result but perspective time. We lost to a stronger Arsenal side. Liverpool lost to Wolves at Anfield. Spurs were very nearly embarrassed by Wycombe. We have a ton of injuries. It is not the end of the world.

Congratulations to everyone at the club. Well deserved! It seems that Les Reed's plan is coming together.Lets win it for Marcus.

Oriol Romeu signs new four and a half year deal!!

Another bit of excellent news concerning a contract extension and no posts from the Usual Suspects? I guess this doesn't fit in with the anti Reed, Puel, club management agenda. -
I love it when players get slaughtered even before they have signed or have kicked a ball for us.
-
So he wasn't the? Are you telling us that he was a perfectly happy bunny?
-
I was talking about the Fonte situation. Not once did I mention Yoshida. So why bring it up? That is a separate discussion but if he proves to be an adequate replacement then it is even more of a result. You could start an argument in an empty room .

We bought him for peanuts, got the best years out of him and have now sold him ( a disgruntled influence at the club) for a decent wedge. Result!!
-
We still have Davis, Boufal and Austin to come back from injuries.

You say Ulloa, I say Cabaye. I'll get me coat......

Badger strangling witch coven! Now there's an internet forum group that I would pay a fiver to join!!

You have been "sad and frustrated" every season since you started posting. Why pretend that this season is any different?

It is perfectly possible to want more, hope for more and be keen to win a trophy without resorting to slagging off the owner/CEO/manager/players every five minutes. At one point the owners weight was called into question. Sorry but that is beyond ridiculous and is indefensible. Perhaps if those dubbed wrist slitters or bed wetters would like to post with constructive comments/critisisms instead of the usual calls to sack people or to slag people off then maybe there would be less of a divide on here.

I didn't renew my membership and don't post very often here nowadays. The negativity and misery that has grown over the years despite the fact that we are a well run club and have had a great 7 years is really depressing. Yes mistakes have been made but mistakes are made at every club. Sometimes you get away with them. Sometimes you don't. I find it hard to believe that people who have followed the club for a long time don't see that we are far better off than we were several years ago. Dropping down to the Championship then Div 1, administration, now those were things to get upset about. This used to be a dreadful place to visit when we lose but now it is just as dreadful if we draw. We beat Liverpool the other day in a cup semi final but you wouldn't know it judging by some of the posts on here! I am in the 51st year of following this club and in all that time we have only won one major competition. Seriously, what do people expect? We are not Manchester United. We are Southampton, a medium sized club who sometimes punch above our weight. The club has a business model that mostly works well for a club of our size. We are looking for sustainable steady growth and again, have maintained that position. If there is a levelling of this season it is not the end of the world. We finished 6th last year yet still people were calling for Koeman to be sacked. Crazy. I am not a happy clapper. I don't like the fact that we have lost 4 league games on the bounce but slagging off Reed and Puel isn't going to change things. It is not as if they are deliberately going out of their way to lose matches. I go into every Saints game hoping for the best but fearing the worst. I don't expect us to win every game but there are some here who seem to take it personally when we lose. At the end of the day it is just a game of football. If you cant find any joy in following this club, then why do it? That is what I cant fathom about the likes of Alpine and Batman. They seem to get their jollies by revelling in the negatives. It is so, so bloody depressing!

Henry would disagree with you. He has only been here a few months. Do you honestly think that it is something that can be done overnight?

But then relegation is on your mind all of the time Dalek.

Is the quality of football any better now than 20/30/40years ago?
sadoldgit replied to OldNick's topic in The Saints
As has been said, the game is quicker and the players more technically adept now but it was very entertaining in the past. You do get more goals at the end of games now whereas teams used to play out time years ago. There was more room for players in the past. Now players receive the ball with two or three players on their backs. When I used to play the brief was not to pass to a man who was marked! You have to wonder how todays prima donnas would cope on the Somme like conditions of Plough Lane in mid winter!
