I am not going to minimise the loss of life here but many people on this list have driven a car drunk and have been lucky to get home without killing themselves or anyone else. I doubt if there are many here who have raped anyone. Causing death by dangerous driving is a very serious offence but it is not murder. If we were talking about three footballers who had committed murder I am sure the outcry would be similar to that of Evans. I agree that the degrees of separation are not huge, but I think they are significant. It is a tough call.

Don't be silly, of course it isn't okay. But they are different circumstances.
  3. So quite a lot of good female comedians then Batman.
  4. I knew a girl of around 19 who was going out with someone of around 50. I think there was an element of the father figure going on with him and her as we wasn't particularly rich or good looking.
  5. Each to his or her own I guess, so long as they are happy. How anyone can be happy with Mr Ecclestone despite his wealth though goodness only knows!

Different circumstances. I am sure none of three death by dangerous set out to deliberately kill anyone and could have ended up dead themselves.

  8. They don't play to his strengths though do they? Their results have improved since he has been getting more game time (and Lovren less).

I think there were things said at the time but death by dangerous driving, as awful as these cases are, are different to rape. McCormick was certainly repentatant - not sure about the responses of the other two but Evans has not helped himself since his release regarding his attitude towards his conviction and the victim. The victim is still being victimised and has had to move 5 times since the offence took place.

  11. Lise Mayer (Rik Mayall's ex) might take issue as she co-wrote The Young Ones. Joan Rivers is another might have a case plus the writer of Girls, Lena Dunham.
  12. Tommy Cooper and Eric Morecombe were both funny men without trying and they still make me laugh today whereas many of their era the comedy hasn't aged that well. There were some classics in the Ripping Yarns series - Tompkinson's Schooldays was epic as was the one about the football supporter. Michael Palin is a great comic actor.

  15. Sorry Halo, only just seen your post!
  16. Spot on. he also started his career with the Black & White Minstel Show - something he likes to distance himself from now. I know this because an ex girlfriend's father was one of the main singers and knew Lenny well.

  19. I would rather have B+ players and be 4th than A+ players and be 7th. The only teams better than us in my book are Chelsea and Manchester City so what is his point?

Has he appealed before and they have been turned down. The case has gone to the review board which isn't the same as an appeal. The problem is clearly that he is now available to work again and there is nothing legally stopping him being a professional footballer once more. The issues now are moral ones about whether he should be allowed to be a "role model" once more. If he were a doctor or teacher he wouldn't be able to resume his career. If he was a plumber or insurance salesman no one would bat an eyelid. The are no rules as such in these circumstances which is why the debate rattles on.
  21. As the other post, who cares? It is just an opinion and we all have one of those. We know we don't have the strong benches of the Citys and Chelseas and we are not a "big" club so why not just enjoy it while it last...and long may it last!
  22. John Cleese seems to have lost his funnybone since he has been in therapy. Perhaps it is their demons which gives them the edge?

Just on news. Oldham say they are in a "difficlut situation." Unless they have offered him a contract already and are now having second thoughts what is difficult about it?

Indeed. The amount of grief generated when Sheffield United allowed him to train should have told Oldham all they need to know.
