Unfortunately skin colour is an issue because it makes it easier for someone to be identified as "not one of us." I have heard plenty of racist comments directed at Europeans once they open their mouths and it becomes apparent they are German, Italian, whatever. It all comes down to basic tribalism. When skin colour is the same tribes used to wear different colours so that you would know who to discriminate against/kill. White Europeans have a dreadful reputation when it comes to carrying out racism against other white Europeans - just think ethnic cleansing. Look at the IS situation. There is appalling "racist" stuff going on that does not revolve around skin colour. I think most rational people can see that skin colour is just one element of what is happening, but has to be dealt with all the same - especially if people are being singled out just because of their skin colour.

We don't seem to be doing too badly without all three of them. Would "70 Minute" Lallana walk into our current side? Debatable. I think he would find that he would have to fight for his place and could see him rotated as he is at Liverpool. How many great seasons did he have for us? I can remember constant slaggings on here about his performances. Still, he has gone. We have a better squad. Agree that discriminatory offences should be treated equally and they often are. I have seen many article about gays and lesbians being treated badly. This is a current news story therefore were are talking about it now. If they stop making an issue of it it will never go away. By highlighting bad behaviour and making the point that it is not socially acceptable the light will continue to shine on the perpetrators and eventually it will be something that that puts these people to shame rather than makes them seem like martyrs to the nationalistic cause. In my lifetime drink driving has gone from being socially acceptable to socially unacceptable. People still do it but they know it is wrong and I have seen people called on it on many occasions whereas in the past it would have gone unnoticed. I don't think discrimination will ever go away but as long as racism and all of the other forms of discrimination are highlighted eventually the moronic few who feel it is ok to behave this way will become even fewer and will be shamed for their Neanderthal views.

I used to use the underground a lot and never saw anyone pushed off a train. What makes this act racist is the chanting. They might not boo their own players but it didn't stop Terry saying something stupid did it?

I find it very sad that these thugs are being defended by some on here. It has nothing to do with levels of offence. It is out of order. The guy was clearly prevented from getting on the train and there was clear racist chanting.

Under the banner of racial intolerance plenty of people have been killed, beaten and raped. That is why we make a stand against it. Because it is abhorrent and should not be tolerated. It what is know as the slippery slope. Once you say it is okay for casual incidents of racist behaviour before you know it you have parties like UKIP and their policies becoming more and more mainstream. If history teaches us something it is not to let this crap grow again and to call it wherever we see it for what it is.

It is a social problem but then so is violence and as we know, there used to be a great deal of violence at football matches. The sort of thing you don't get at rugby or cricket matches. There is a certain type of dangerous and unpleasant tribalism within football crowds. You would like to think that in 2015 and with so many "foreign" players plying their trade in clubs across the world, that racism in football would be no more. Sadly many clubs still have racist supporters in their ranks.

Fair play Noodles. I can see that you don't have much faith in the current owner or Board and that is your choice. I don't know why you preferred to believe in Cortese who clearly had "issues" rather than people who have demonstrated that they are solid so far. I would also argue that the current lot are showing better business acumen and have achieved a better standing in the Premiership than the Don did so far. You may well be a Saints fan but I do find it odd that you want people who have done a good job to either fail or jump ship.
