  1. Don't you think the pressure was on as soon as he took the job on? He knew what the plan was and what is expected of him then. Why more so now?
  2. Too a lot of people judging by the reaction to the film.
  3. It is good that we are not being linked to players who would just do a job in Div 1 but would also make us competitive in the CCC. It is nice to see some joined up thinking and planning for the future.
  4. Pressure to go up? I don't think a few more signings will make any difference. The minute we were taken over by a bloke with some wedge the pressure was on. All the mamagement can do it to build a structure that will make it possible. Hard to make it probable overnight as Leeds found. The will is there. The cash is there. But it is down to what happens on the pitch and as teams who have spent money on trying to buy instant success find, spending money guarantees nothing. I just hope that Pardew doesn't get the Burley treatment. Setting your sights for the play offs rather than instant promotion is sensible as you need to mnage people's expectations. Burley achieved what he set up to do but has never been fogiven for not taking us up that season. If pardew gets us to the play offs with -10 that will be no mean feat but if we don't succeed this season he should be given more time. We need to start keeping good people at this club and Pardew is a decent manager.
  5. My Mum lives in West Wickham so wil have to look out for her next time I am up there. Good luck with the inde rock n roll shop in West Wickham High St though - average age of shoppers is 79. It comes to something when you reach celeb status for n*bbing a footballer though.
  6. We have a fingerprint database. There are photographic records. At the moment we can say with some certainty that DNA records are the most accurate in that the chances of it being someone elses is very small. You would be amazed at what sort of information is held about you. The DNA database is just one part of the story.
  7. To be fair DD, many hated Lowe even before we went on the slide. I can remember many people slating him when we were doing well under Strachan. Many people hated him from the minute he came to the club on the reverse takeover - not because of who he was, but because of the way he arrived. The fact that he liked hockey and supposedly didn't know anything about football didn't help. Mind you, the same people who are lauding NC currently seem to ignore the fact that he doesn't know anything about football either!
  8. Indeed, but they will change if NC doesn't deliver. It was interesting that Lowe got all the blame for things that went wrong but none of the credit for things that went well. I bet if NC had brought SCW to the club instead of Lowe the reaction here would hav ebeen very different. NCs stock is very high right now because he has a rich master and the club is doing better. If were are still in Divison 1 in two seasons time, if he is indeed like Lowe, I expect he will get the same treatment eventually. Still, as with Lowe, he is being judged here by many through heresay and by people who have not met him.
  9. Agree totally with the glass house thing. I am sure that there are many people who don't like the fact that we much our way through thousands if tones of an animal that is scared to them. When in Peru I went to our house where guinea pigs ran free on the floor and were fattened up for eating. I ate Alpaca (not a whole one) which is a very cute animal. Peruvians eat these anaimals without a second thought. My kids would be mortified to think that these cute animals end up on the dinner plate. There is something different about dolphins though. They seem to have a bond with Man. There are many recorded accounts of dolphins saving people from drowning or from shark attacks. I was fortunate enough to swim with one of these creatures in the Red Sea and it was an incredible experience. There is something very special about these animals. It is not just that they are "cute". We should now be protecting them, not killing them.
  10. I am not happy about the whole meat industry DD but on the whole it treats animals fairly well and humans do eat meat. Perhaps we shouldn't judge what we eat on their level of intelligence (I doubt if a cannibal would care if it ate a Mensa member or not) but eating certain creatures does seem very wrong.
  11. Blimey I can't even spell Google! Anyways, something else I just read is interetsing. Apparently dolphin meat conatins 5 x the amount of mecury than is safe. Same schools have had it taken off the menu and pregant Japanese women are told not to eat it. Ironic that man's polution of the seas could now prove to be the one thing that stops this barbric practice. Read about the film DD. We are not talking about humane farming. We are talking about the horrific butchery of these majestic creatures which goes against international law. If we treated cows, sheep, pigs etc in the same way perhaps you would have a point.
  12. LIke DD I have just done a Goiogle search to check out the Japanese staple diet. It i 75% tofu, ****ake mushrooms, prawns, soba noodles & wakame. I am not sure what wakame is but am pretty sure it isn't whale or dolphin. No I have not been to a Japanese resteraunt in Japan nor an Indian retseraunt in India but am aware that the menus are not always the same. What we are talking about is staples and things that most people eat most of the time. If you went to a Japanese restaurant for authentic food and this was what they lived on, don't you think it would be on the menu along with tuna and sea bass?
  13. I expect he will return someday. Spot on to CanadaSaint!
  14. So why then did that change? Would you say whalemeat has been a staple in the nations diet in your leftime? I go to Japanese restaurants quite a lot and blow mw sideways but I have never seen whale or dolphin on the menu? (ps is blow me sidways a certain naval pratice???)
  15. Hi Ottery me old mucker, well if NC gets the club into the Prem for a 10 year run and a Cup Final I would say that he has achieved as much
  16. He took his ball and went home over something to do with a certain poster here I believe.
  17. Fits in with his hissy fit with the Echo too. Still as long as he produces the goods does it really matter if he behaves like RL? No of course not, but that point will be lost by a few on here
  18. As dear old Um Pahars used to say, you couldn't make it up. If Lowe had had that spat with the Echo and had done this to Benali the usual suspects would have been after him like a shot. Now NC gets a pat on the back and a huge well done. These sort of people are usually cut fronm the same cloth, that is how they get to where they are. Be ready for more stories like this about NC and more Lowelike behaviour, with the same hypocracy about what a wonderful bloke he is...unless we don't get promoted of course
  19. You are missing the point DD. So you don't want to eat dolphin, so what? This is about the fact that a creature of its stature is being butchered. The Japanese are not going to suddenly start dying out as a race if dolphin is no longer on the menu it is? As someone who spends so much time underwater I would have expected you to have a little more empathy for your submariner buddies
  20. Are reindeer and moose hunted to near extinction? Tell me, what happended to the buffalo when the white man moved to America? The Native American's used what they needed and no more. Now we have factory ship that hoover up the seas resources at a rate that is no longer sustanable. Cod used to be a very cheap food source. It is much more expensive now because of over fishing. But the point remains, there is no need to kill these animals as a food source, so why do it. Even worse if dolphins are being butchered to protect tuna stocks.
  21. So you are cool with people eating dog then? The reason we talk about staple diet is that the peope who eat dolphin and whalemeat could just as easily not eat it and survive.
  22. Not quite everything! Beef has been a staple diet of western civilsations for a very long time. I am sure than people in India, while not eating them themselves can see the population need feeding, and they ren't too fussed about killing and eating sheep are they? We are talking numbers though and staple diets. How many Japanese depend on a diet of dolphin and whalemeat?
  23. Perhaps Benjii said it then, but I didn't make it up. Yes Benjii, dolphins are nice. So are lambs and piggies.
  24. I am intelligent enough to realise that the Japanses staple diet is not whale and dolphin! What animal do we need to eat? The same animals that we have been breeding for eating for hundreds of years I guess. I guess that you a relatively intelligent person and can figure out that certain animals are breed/cultivated for food and others are not. In the later category I would place whales and dolphins. With it yet? If the whales and dolphins became extinct what would the Japanese do then? Erm, carry on eating what most of them currently eat at the moment I guess.
