  1. Why is it okay to use technology in virtually all of teh other top sports and not football? One of Durham's arguements is that it couldn't be used on Hackney Marshes. So what? You are lucky if your get nets, referess and linos! The whole object is to score a goal. It would have taken two seconds to confirm the ball crossed the line from Lampards shot without goal line technology if the 4th official had looked a the reply. I also had to chuckle at the way he and Ian Wright derided callers to his show saying England were going to lose against Germany. Wright in particular was well over the top in his support and knocking those who didn't blindly follow his patriotism. I support the England team but I am also realistic enough to see when they are not at the races.
  2. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo thanks
  3. If you say so Wes, but I disagree
  4. Things have improved football wise so that is something to be thankful about. Cortese is probably cut from the same cloth as Lowe and ceratinly doesn't have any PR savvy, but if we keep going in the same direction does it really matter? I was concerned about his apparent lack of support for the manager and lack of knowledge about football, but if he backs Pardew and lets him do his thing that is all you can ask of a CEO.
  5. LOL, I thought this thread was about England v Germany not SaintsWeb v Alpine Saint. I am looking forward to next season when Alps looks for the Palace result before ours in his Austrian bunker so that he can have a pop at Burley.
  6. That is becuse religion has very little to do with geographical boundaries.
  7. Would love to see a shake up but am prepared to bet that most of this squad will make up the first squad of the next campaign. And I don't agree about Cole at all. Quick yes but an awful defender.
  8. Redknapp, Branfoot and Chris Nicholl - the later for wasting the legacy that McMenemy left behind.
  9. Surely you get the point Wes? Don't you find it ironic that the geezer we are supposed to doff out hats to as being our patron Saint is a Johnny Foreigner???
  10. Remember when we said play the Sints kids, they couldn't do any worse. We did and they did! I hav eno problem with a foreign coach but they should be able to speak the langauage. If the can't communicate with the players what is the point? We do have some decent players, what we don't have is a team.
  11. I don't think that Capello hs covered himself in glory this campaign but the players really should take most of the blame.
  12. Probably not although it is hard to see things getting any better with him here. Who else though? Redknapp? God help us.
  13. I don't think that the manager has to be English, he just has to pick the best squad and get a decent team together. Upson, Wright-Phillips, Lennon, Heskey....why? Gerrard on the left. Terry on the right. Two full back who can't defend and who have no postional sense. Lampard and Gerrard together. No no 1 keeper going intot the competition. Taking players who are not fit - King, Barry, Rooney. David Beckham. Why? Grey shirts (ddidn't someone think to tell Capello about grey shirts, even under suits). Lets face it, we just don't have the right DNA for these competitions. It worked for us once in 1966 but can you honestly see this country ever winning another World Cup?
  14. Good point. I bet they are sitting in the dressing room not believeing how easy it was for them today.
  15. If we had lost 1-2 it would have been. As it was we were comfortably beaten and the talking point should be why have we been so rubbish this World Cup???
  16. Apart from a couple of short sections of the game the Germans were vastly superior to us. Unfortunately for us, football is not just about ability, it is about the thought process too. Most of our players probably have trouble tying their own bootlaces. When your World Cup hopes hang on a player whose emotional menatl age is 14 then you are in trouble. Roonet has failed on the World stage because he is still a boy. Wach the likes of Pele and Maradona and Cruyff. True greats because they were grown ups. Rooney had two chances to play other people in against Algeria but on both occasions elected to try a shot. Exactly what you would expect on the school playing field. Contrast that with how the Germans set up their goals for each other. We have the ability but we don't have the mental maturity at this level.
  17. Has spent months and months telling us on Talksport that we should not have goal line technology. C*ck.
  18. I don't mind that we were beaten by a better team, but I do mind that we have played so far below a reasonable level of competency it is embarrasing. We are one of the worst teams in this competition.
  19. We were, you are right. We actually got better after 1966 but never won anything again. Ramsey was a quaility manager at International level and so was Bobby Robson. Sadly we have not found anyone of their quality since.
  20. They may be well paid, but they are not the brightest/strongest mentally, where it counts at this level. Kevin Keegan was not the most gifted player but he used is brain and made the step up - something Roonet is incapable of doing it seems. We have players who can perfom week in week out in the Prem no problem. but take them out of their comfort zone and they are lost. The only player we have who could perform to the same level abroad is Gerrard.
  21. The Battle of Britain was crucial but if we had lost that there were plenty of other places that the American could have used as a foothold. Spain, Northern Africa. The tide turned once they pitched in and the Russians kept their nerve. Hitler, like Napoleon, over reached himself.
  22. But this has happened for years, even before the influx of the foreign stars.
  23. Gerrard is WorldClass if you use him properly, but that is it. Rooney might have ability but he does not have a brain. We have plenty of players who are good enough to perform week in week out on the Prem stage but all too few how can step up to the higher level. I have heard people say that Ashley Cole is a World Class defender. No he is not. Johnson is okay but not at this level. Our defence is poor. The keeper poor. The midfield lack what it takes. No real goal threat up front. We flattered to device in a weak qualifying group. 4 games. Adequate in one and very poor in the other three.
  24. I agree, the players need to be held accountable. This lot looked like park players. All too often managers get slagged when the players don't do what they are supposed to.
