I remember when Blair was entering Downing St after winning in '97 he said "People will be surprised at how radical we'll be". Great, I thought. He'll start to repair all the damage that Thatcher had done. Instead he carried on where the Tories left off. The fact that Thatcher later expressed her admiration for him and that Cameron admired him says everything about how radical he was, but not quite how a lot of people expected.

Lifted from a legal advice website (It's Scottish but the law is the same in England): "If private landlords do not respond to complaints of antisocial behaviour in relation to their tenants, occupiers or visitors to the property they own, the local authority can serve an antisocial behaviour notice (ASBN) on the landlord. An ASBN will set out steps that the landlord must take in order to tackle the antisocial behaviour. If the private landlord does not take these steps, the local authority can do a number of things, including obtaining a rent penalty order or a management control order. A rent penalty order means that no rent is payable on the property until the landlord addresses the problem of antisocial behaviour. A management control order means that the local authority takes over the landlord’s functions in relation to the property. In extreme cases, the local authority can refer the landlord to the Procurator Fiscal for prosecution as it is a criminal offence to fail to comply with an antisocial behaviour notice."

Lets assume that the barrel is cylindrical. If you stand it on its end then the relationship between volume and surface area is linear (if you plotted one against the other you would get a straight line). Therefore half the volume will cover half the surface area and so on. If you lay it on its side the graph would be a sort of "S" shape. Again, half the volume would cover half of the surface area but if it was less or more than half then the relationship would not be linear. So the answer depends on how much you put in the barrel. The maths are pretty straightforward for a true cylinder, the barrel is a bit more complicated. Useful calculator here: http://www.aqua-calc.com/calculate/volume-in-a-horizontal-cylinder

So if they broadcast "The Merchant of Venice", would you accuse them of anti_semitism?

"The Channel 4 programme makers have said that they have not misrepresented Mr Farage's views. "He was asked a direct question on whether there would be a law against discrimination on the grounds of race or colour and he replied no," he said." I would have thought that most employers want the best person for the job regardless of where they come from.
-
UKIP announced this morning that, in the unlikely event of them running the country, they would remove racial discrimination laws regarding employment, so that you could be refused a job on racial grounds. Back to the 1950's eh?

Exactly. The opposite also applies. I quite liked John Major. He seemed quite an affable bloke and so does Cameron when he's not being Prime Minister and also Farage (but I think it's an act with him trying to play down his privately educated, City trader background), but I wouldn't vote for any of them.

Maybe not for much longer. From the New York Times: "Recently, the geneticist J. Craig Venter showed that the entire genetic material of an organism can be synthesized by a machine and then put into what he called an “artificial cell.” This was actually a bit of press-release hyperbole: Mr. Venter started with a fully functional cell, then swapped out its DNA. In doing so, he unwittingly demonstrated that the female component of sexual reproduction, the egg cell, cannot be manufactured, but the male can."

Have you considered refurbishment? Mine are getting on a bit and the rubber seals around the panes have shrunk therefore removing the insulating effect of the gap. The frames are still in good nick and I believe that there are firms that will replace the seals, which is a lot cheaper than outright replacement.

No one seems to know who this person was. The Police and the local paper have no knowledge of him (or her). You would have thought that this person would have been interviewed. Love Productions repeatedly refused to talk to the Police about any of their "difficulties". -
Along with this, we have ex Tory and Labour Foreign Secretaries selling their services and the hilarious Ukippers programme last Sunday, one is tempted to dismiss the lot of them. Unfortunately, some of them will end up running the country.

I pass by Staplewood every day. The new pitches have been laid up as far as Twiggs Lane and they are erecting the lights and other stuff and doing the roadways. Doesn't look like it's on hold.

For a guy that was built like a brick sh*thouse he was very quick. I remember a game against the Arse at The Dell where he was giving Ian Wright a couple of yards start and then catching him with ease.

If you're asked for a couple of quid "for a cup of coffee", offer to go and get them one. If they accept, they're propably genuine, if they don't then they want the money for other purposes.

Indeed. There were a number of occasions in the last third of the game when either Fonte or Gardos had possession quite deep in our half and there was a 20 or 30 yard gap between them and the most forward West Ham player. They were very reluctant to come forward.

Do they show all the premier league games? I'm thinking of ditching Sky Sports and was looking at OffsideStreams, another XBMC app (but that's £10.00 per month).

I would try to persuade your missus to go up the Eiffel Tower. Amazing views from the top on a clear day. Get there early to avoid the queues. The Louvre is definitely worth a visit as is the Arc de Triomphe. The Metro is fast with frequent trains and saves a lot of walking. I've travelled quite a bit in France and have generally found the people to be friendly and helpful if you make a bit of an effort to speak French (even if you're not very good). Paris seems to be the exception. Even the French don't like Parisians.

After 61 years the BBC have lost the Open Golf to Sky from 2017. Live sport on terrestrial TV will soon be a thing of the past.
