Depends where it is. There's a small estate at the back of Winchester Road (Seagarth Lane, Malwood Avenue) which is now a mixture of council and ex-council. It's always been a quiet area and well looked after and they all seem to co-exist perfectly happily. Any houses that are put up for sale seem to be snapped up pretty quickly.

Sad to hear in the week of the passing of Errol Brown, the lead singer of Hot Chocolate. He was 71 and died of Liver Cancer. They made some classic pop songs including the iconic "You Sexy Thing" but they also did a lot of more funky stuff on their albums.

It might help if I looked at 2014 instead of 2009.

Cameron's main problems will come from within. He can be held to ransom by his own backbenchers many of whom see him as insufficently right wing. He said in his acceptance speech that he wants to move more to the One Nation type of conservativism, which they will see as a move leftwards. Labour and the Lib Dems will both get new leaders and will go back to the drawing board and wait for Cameron to make mistakes. UKIP are a busted flush and will probably disappear. SNP are interesting. If they get a clear majority in the Scottish elections next year, we can expect a renewed push for independance. I can see Cameron offering some sort of federal setup where they have greatly increased powers but remain part of the UK

I see the week as a hill. Uphill from Sunday night and reaching the peak at Wednesday lunchtime. Then it's all downhill to the weekend.

There's a golden rule in statistics "Correlation does not imply causality". In other words, just because 2 sets of statistics correlate, it does not mean that one has caused (or is caused by) the other. It would need a lot more detailed study to show this.

Sky Movies have been running the Godfather trilogy for the past week or so. I do like I and II but Goodfellas is up there with them.

Benefits were more generous in the 80s even under Thatcher. In 1987 I had a brlef period of unemployment after being made redundant. With a wife, a 6-month old son and a mortgage, the amount I could claim meant that we could just about manage. Fortunately I got a new job after a few weeks so I don't know how it would have been over a longer period.

Just saw a rather inept performance from Liz Truss (Environment Minister) on the Daily Politics. She was boasting that, last year, the government presided over a record number of house building starts. Andrew Neil asked her how many but she didn't know. So he asked her how did she know it was a record. She replied "Eric Pickles told me". Neil then informed her that, last year there were around 110000 starts whereas in 2006 under Labour, there were 170000 and the average under Labour was greater than their "record". She'd originally said that the record was house completions but when Neil proved her wrong she switched to house starts. She looked extremely uncomfortable and then tried again and said she meant council houses. She'd obviously had no idea of the figures and just expected everyone to believe her fiction.

Where's Guardiola, Ancelotti or Benitez? Surely they would jump at the chance to manage the biggest club with the bestest fans in the world.

One of his pearls of wisdom: "If you can add to what's on the screen then do it, otherwise shut up." Some of todays commentators (especially in football) could learn from that.

Agree Redknapp was crocked but he gave it a good go when he did play. I remember him him being interviewed after the Man U game when we were relegated and he said "The fans applauded us off but we didn't deserve it. We let them down". It may have been professional pride but it seemed like he really cared. Also remember being at the Clock End at Highbury when Howells scored to cancel out Bergkamps goal to earn us our second point of the season (in October).

Hope Burnley stay up. I was quite impressed by them at St Marys a few weeks ago. They gave it a real go and there was no diving or rolling around on the floor and no moaning to the Ref. A good honest team with a good manager.
