I often wonder if these people leave early from the cinema or theatre. If you have to get a last train or IOW ferry then fair enough but, if we all left early, who'd applaud the team off at the end? Strangely enough, at the Sunderland game when the result was in the bag quite early, it seemed to me that more people stayed to the end than is normally the case.

Exactly. This would be my definition as well.

Or companies pay less tax which they could if the benefit bill was reduced. Despite this governments demonisation of the unemployed, apart from pensions, the biggest portion of the benefits bill goes in tax credits to people in work. So the state is subsidising low wages and also subsidising private landlords through housing benefit. More social housing would reduce this problem with rents being ploughed back into building more. I'm old enough to remember Macmillan's Tory government boasting of how many council houses they were building. Then Thatcher sold them all off cheaply and prevented local authorities using that income to build more. I could quote the relevant statistics but I've got to get off to the match.

If he likes Tudor history: Thomas Cromwell : The Untold Story of Henry VIII's Most Faithful Servant by Tracy Borman Especially if he's read Hilary Mantel's "Wolf Hall" and "Bring Up the Bodies" which were fictionalized accounts of Cromwell, this is a true portrait of the man taken from documents written at the time. He's quite a complex character rising from very humble beginnings to being one of Henry VIII's closest advisers. He was a devoted family man but could be extremely ruthless in carrying out his master's wishes, sending many people to execution. Instrumental in the break with Rome and the subsequent persecution of the Catholics, his great achievement was securing Henry's divorce from Catherine of Aragon and subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn.

What the Southampton - Waterloo line needs is another operator to compete with SWT. No matter how far ahead you book, the ticket price is always the same (apart from the occasional offer in the summer hols). But, if you want to go to Bournemouth, you can get some good prices because Virgin also operate on that route. You can also get some really cheap deals on Southern Railways to Victoria (£10.00 return) but it takes over 2 hours each way.

Can you enlighten us how you arrive at this figure of 80%? I'd be interested to see the data behind it.

According to the Echo: "There are a lot of people walking around West Quay with shopping bags" You don't see that very often.

I think he played 5 games for Hampshire in 2010.

That takes me back. This started as the old NCC Certificate of Systems Analysis and Design run under the Systems Analysis Examination Board. I did it over 30 years ago. Then it was a 6 month full-time course followed by written and oral exams. It's expanded a lot since then and now covers a wide range of IT disciplines.

Don't buy a new car. Unless it's an expensive prestige model the value will drop considerably as soon as it leaves the dealer. Go for something 6 to 9 months old. Any initial problems will have been sorted and it''ll be a lot cheaper than a brand new one.

Forget Windows, use a flavour of Linux (I use Ubuntu). You'll get much better performance from less expensive hardware. Unless you have applications that will only run on Windows, there's loads of free software including Open Office which is the equivalent of Microsoft Office. FM 2015 is also supported on Linux.

Averages can be misleading. You need to look at the standard deviation to see how the ages are distributed among the St Marys populace. More importantly, you would also need to look at the age distribution of people who respond to YouGov surveys. I'll now remove my statistical nerd's hat.

I find most TV ads patronising, puerile and generally annoying. A very few are genuinely creative and amusing but they are a small minority. I'm recording more programmes now rather than watching them live, so that I can whizz through the adverts. This shows up how much time the adverts take up. One of the worst is "The Walking Dead" which is barely more than 35 minutes of actual programme. The cable/satellite channels can have 3 x 5 minute breaks in a 1 hour slot. I believe that ITV and C4 are limited in how many ads that they show. Pity it doesn't apply to all of them.

I was 19 in July '69. I decided to make a bed on my mum's sofa so that I could watch the moment on our black and white TV when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon. It must have been around 2 or 3 in the morning when it happened and I managed to get a few hours sleep afterwards. I'll never forget it. I loved the Apollo years with James Burke and Patrick Moore commentating on the live BBC coverage. Unfortunately, the US public quickly got bored of space travel and NASA couldn't secure the funds to continue.

They were interviewing a WW2 veteran on R4 a couple of weeks ago about this scene. He pointed out that the Sherman guzzled fuel (about 8-12mpg) and this one seemed to go on forever. He also said that an immobilsed tank was a sitting duck and that any crew would scarper as soon as possible. The Germans had a very efficient tank-buster and they would have used this first before attempting to approach a tank.

It does say 1 ticket per customer number so, if you've got a Season Ticket, presumably that counts.
