  1. The Evening Standard, which for some time has been saying that MP is a certainty for the Spurs job, now appears to be backtracking somewhat suggesting that there are differences in the Spurs camp over the new appointment. As well as De Boer, Benitez has been mentioned and even Ancelotti if Real Madrid lose in the CL final. http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/mauricio-pochettino-is-no-certainty-as-tottenham-hope-to-install-new-boss-next-week-9416156.html
  2. I had a cash-in-hand job at Southampton Guildhall in the early 70's taking tickets and generally keeping an eye on things. Got to see the Who, Bowie, Elton John, Slade and Rory Gallagher amongst others. The Who were incredibly loud, Bowie was a bit of a ripoff as he only did about 40 minutes and Slade sounded exactly like they did on vinyl.
  3. For us oldies, "Good Morning, Vietnam" had some good stuff from the late 60's - early 70's.
  4. I've had absolutely no information about any of the candidates. The onus appears to be on the individual voter to go online and look for the views of the various candidates. Fine for the IT literate but not everyone is.
  5. So, how often should we be told that nothing has changed? Every day? Every hour? Every 10 minutes?
  6. The latest UKIP looney is Mr Gordon Ferguson who is standing for election in Southport. According to Mr F: "The Lib-Lab-Cons have conspired with a foreign power, the EU, and are all thereby guilty of treason. They have sold Britain, which is the fifth largest economy, illegally into increasing slavery inside the EU dictatorship. Those responsible should be hung by the neck until dead" But, he says this is unlikely to happen because; “As likely as not, however, they will never be brought to account because our senior police, Crown Prosecution Service and judges are almost all exclusively freemasons, and Britain’s courts have been utterly corrupt for many years. They are almost all in the pocket of the EU." Asked whether he thought his rivals’ voters should also hang, Mr Ferguson said: “If that is the law of the land, that should apply.” The decision is for judges, not him he added. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/ukip/10839448/My-rivals-should-be-hanged-for-treason-says-Ukip-candidate.html
  7. Eze's worth a look. It's a "perched village" between Nice and Monaco located 1400 ft above sea level and built on a small outcrop of rock. Stunning views along the coast although it is a bit of a tourist trap and seems to have more restaurants and arty shops than residents. St. Tropez is very touristy but it's amusing to watch the huge yachts (some never seem to leave harbour) and the very rich coming and going.
  8. When do they start on the other bit which extends the pitches up to Twiggs Lane?
  9. Another one comes out of the woodwork: UKIP's small business spokesman and election candidate is prosecuted for employing 7 illegal immigrants in his restaurant. The word "hypocrisy" comes to mind.
  10. When the price is right, all clubs are "selling" clubs. Spurs sold their best player to Real Madrid. Arsenal couldn't keep hold of Van Persie, Man Utd lost Ronaldo. All this hand-wringing won't change anything. When anything happens, we'll be told. The media see all the teams outside the top 5 or 6 as prey to the "big" clubs and, to a large extent, that's true, so it's easy journalism for them to focus on our young talent. If it happens we'll still have a team next season and, hopefully, some cash to spend. Life goes on...
  11. If you can't find a cable, upload the file to cloud storage. There's plenty of free ones around.
  12. Suppose you could say the same about us. Katherina owns the club and, as she was frequently at games sporting a red and white scarf, she could be described as a fan.
  13. If he goes to Spurs, he'll have the opportunity to work with all those Spurs players in the England World Cup squad. Oh, hang on, for the 1st time in 60 years, there aren't any Spurs players in the England squad.
  14. One of UKIP's rising stars (according to Farage), who was feted at their conference, has quit her post of head of the youth wing saying: “Ukip is exploiting the stupidity of ignorant anti-immigrant voters for electoral gain,” she wrote. “While the party deliberately attracts the racist vote I refuse to be associated with them. As a British-born Indian supporter of Ukip I should be proud that the party I joined at 18 has grown to challenge the Conservatives and Labour so strongly. In reality, however, the direction in which the party is going is terrifying: Ukip has descended into a form of racist populism that I cannot bring myself to vote for.” They certainly seem to have some odd people: Janice Atkinson, who chairs the party in the South-east, thinks protesters who shout “fascist” at Ukip members should be arrested. An unidentified councillor sent for the police because he objected to a tweet posted by a Green blogger, Michael Abberton, lampooning Ukip policy. The Camden New Journal recorded a Ukip candidate in West Hampstead, Magnus Neilsen, reflecting that the Reform Acts of 1832 and 1888, which extended the vote to working-class men, may have been a mistake.
  15. Surely, if he'd signed a contract extension, he'd be going to Waitrose or even M&S.
  16. So there's this guy serving a 27-year sentence for various violent robberies and is let out on parole in 2001. 3 weeks into his parole, he commits the first of a further 13 robberies of banks and building societies (including one in Bishops Waltham where he hits a 73-year old woman over the head with a pistol). When he's caught, he gets 13 concurrent life sentences. Some bright spark thinks it's good idea to transfer him to an open prison and then let him out for a short period. Not surprisingly, he does a runner and is now being hunted by the police. What planet are these people on? I expect that, if there's an enquiry, they'll say that "lessons have been learned", so that's all right then. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/11191897.Armed_robber_on_the_run_struck_in_Hampshire/
  17. Oven roasted?? Is there any other way?
  18. As old Rene Descartes said: "I think therefore I am not a Daily Mail reader"
  19. I've got this on CD along with the classic "Woolston Ferry" and a collection of pretty awful Saints songs.
  20. So Cameron writes an article in the Church Times saying what a good Christain he is but, when the Bishop of Oxford arranges to present a petition signed by 40 Anglican bishops and 600 other clerics to his constituency office, they call the police and refuse him entry. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/david-camerons-constituency-office-calls-police-on-food-bank-campaigners-bishop-of-oxford-and-reverend-keith-hebden-9274303.html
  21. Reminds me of a sketch in "Bottom" where Richie is praising Britain for it's Christian values and Eddie points out that Richie never goes to church. Richie replies "I don't need to go to church, I'm Church of England".
  22. Mrs ecuk268 keeps saying that I should have my head examined.
  23. The Allegro was one of the worst cars of the 80's. Came out at about the same time as the Golf and had loads of faults, not least being distortion of the bodyshell if it was suspended towed.
  24. Don't know if it's already been posted but kick-off is at 3.07 (Hillsborough Anniversary) so time for an extra orange squash.
  25. Mrs ecuk268 is never ready on time whereas I always leave loads of time to get anywhere. I've resorted to saying that "we need to leave at 11.45" when I really mean 12.00 but I think that she rumbled that one years ago. She did admit this morning when she was rushing off to work that, even if she didn't go to bed at all, she still wouldn't be ready in the morning.
