Proably a really good example although he always bought broken clubs on the cheap invested enough money to put them in a position to be attractive to others and flogged them more like the leibheirs than this Chinese lot who will be paying through the nose for an established stable club.
-
Have sisu actually made any money though or just royally screwed the club up?
-
Has anybody ever bought a football club to make money and if so who has actually made a profit? The answers to the above questions mean it's unlikely they are looking to make a fast buck or if they are they are stupid! Sadly it doesn't look like these are the dream owners who are going to push us into the mega rich league that many have been hoping for, personally I hope we don't get sold the period since admin has been the most successful and enjoyable in my life time the club is owned by sensible people doing sensible things yes we might never make top 4 but under the current leadership we seem unlikely to implode. Change isn't always a good thing!

Maya probably picking his moment, if he becomes first choice after this window he will be in a strong negotiating position he'd be silly to sign now. Romeu worries me but then so would any key first team player who's contract was fast expiring.
-
This is the fear, I really hope we see him put pen to paper and a decent length extension soon, he has been very important for us this season and would be expensive and difficult to replace sadly as we've found out in recent years we can't force people to sign new deals.
-
He could be the next Nathan Cleverly or Phil Neville! Comparisons to Barry seem fair enough, he's had a great career and just fallen short of outstanding and it looks like the spider is going the same way.
-
I can't decide who is telling the truth but either way the situation is hardly showering anyone with sunshine, would much rather the club and player conducted the whole business behind closed doors and either announced he was staying and happy or sold him this messing about helps nobody. I can't help but agree with those saying Fonte has been badly advised he seems to be burning his bridges at Saints with no prospect of a big move or any move for that matter, he's probably still ****ed that he didn't get to go to united in the summer but maybe for the good of his career he should have sucked it up and signed what saints were offering! If he spends the rest of this season rotting in our reserves his stock will have fallen so far he'll be lucky to get out of here before his contract is up and will be looking at a Palace or lower type scenario!
-
The Torpedo! There was a ittle bit of hype when he signed him then he sunk with out trace! and don't forget to add Marcelo Sarmiento to our list of failed Argentine players, we don't do so well with South Americans! The bookies odds are just because of idiots betting based on the back of no source rumours I can't see him going to Palace it would be such a massive climb down from him and would reek of chasing the last pay check which is something he has seemed keen to avoid!
-
Anyone surprised, we are a shambles at the minute time for some leadership!
-
Would be more concerned about loosing radically than fonte!
-
Money money money he is looking for £100k+ a week plus a signing on fee etc home and importantly his agent will massively top up there retirement pots remember Jose hasn't had a 10 year top flight career so while obviously he is loaded in footballer terms he could have more. Fair play to the lad he is taking care of himself and his family at an age when he could be finished in 12 months.

The football we are producing is dire, square pegs in round holes possession for the sake of it and seemingly no passion. We are doing relatively well but we should be expecting more, I wouldn't mind if we were playing well and being unlucky or at least heading in the right direction we seem to be getting worse no better and I don't think CP is the man o lead us out of this slump. The complaints about the squad are valid but the current one is more than good enough to play decent football and give a team like West Brom a decent challenge!
-
I'm moving into the time to go camp! We don't seem to be moving in a positive direction he seems to have no plan and definitely isn't getting the best out of a very good expensively assembled squad!
-
This I think is a sensible idea, we are clearly going to loose at least one this summer so if a suitable player is available in Jan we should take him

Sam Gallagher - Joins Blackburn: Official

Have we offered him a new contract yet? If he maintains this form the list of clubs sniffing about will surely be increasing fast! -
Don't think we've sold many if any to cheaply, yes some of those players are now worth more as they are performing at a higher level ie lallana but others are worth less ie Shaw. Looking at all our sales I think at the point of sale they have been about right. Will be sad to see Fonte go but that is a big wedge of money for a player of his age who could be finished in 12-18 months time it would make him one of the most expensive over 30's in history and most of the others for similar or more were 30 not 33 at the time!

No point bollocking Puel, the players aren't good enough
a1ex2001 replied to ScepticalStan's topic in The Saints
Our first team is perfectly good enough to secure us top ten finish if the manager setup in a 4-2-3-1 which suits the players we have been carefully buying for 4 odd years results would be better we simply don't have the right players for the diamond we only have one striker and no number 10 for starters! -
Not time to sack him yet massively disappointing last night but that is no reason to sack him. Hopefully we will see an up turn in league form now we are out of Europe and we can maintain our cup performances and maybe land our first real silver where in 30 years!
-
Not sure I want to see us filling the first team with untested South Americans with Italian passports I still remember derby's future legend Esteban fuertes getting turned away at customs six months after he signed for them and who was that idiot at Fulham with the zoro mask in his sock?
-
You seem to have forgotten our other stellar South American signings! Frederico 'the torpedo' arias -sunk without trace! Keleber Challa -Delgado's cousin/wet nurse watched him warm up during a Carling cup match in Bolton. Marcelo Sarmiento -watched him against Notts court we lost Marcelo Tejera - loan signing who disappeared along with 100k when redknap was boss! Can't think of many good ones!

Sam McQueen signs new 4 and a half year deal

Excellent nice to see both club and player moving quickly to make a long term commitment. -
I'll take 17th and a cup, this great period in our history needs a trophy!
-
Having epically screwed up their first attempt followed by crashing out of the league cup! Last seasons side against this seasons side is a close run thing and anyone saying otherwise is clearly deluded the margins in football are tiny and I really wouldn't use totemhams transfer policy as a guide to a players quality signings at the lane tend to be a little hit and miss! Given our resources, European commitments and increased focus on the league cup I think we are having a pretty decent season and I'd happily take mid table if we give both cups and the europa a real go this is the best spell the club has had in years and we should be putting some silverware in the cabinet so when things aren't so good which one day they won't be we have something to look back on! People seem to forget the years we spent scrapping survival or wallowing in lower league obscurity enjoy this spell while it lasts all football clubs rise and fall and currently we are riding the crest!
-
I'm not sure anyone does I think most just think he's a nice bloke and a decent coach which is hard to disagree with. He won't be unemployed for long and I'm sure he will have received a payout from England for terminating his contract.

Police Investigations into historical interference with young players
a1ex2001 replied to spyinthesky's topic in The Saints
It doesn't make he club look terrible it makes the 70/80's look terrible which from a child protection point of view they were, I hope all those who come forward get the justice and help they deserve and all those who abused the position of trust which they held get the punishment they deserve. From the looks of it this is going to touch pretty much every club in the game and will almost certainly branch out into other sports. The club should do everything they can to enable the full investigation of the allegations and offer support to those who were abused while in the care of the club. What will stain the club is if we put the barriers up and don't acknowledge the historical problem, publicise what we currently do to prevent it happening again and offer what ever is needed by those that suffered assuming they are willing to accept anything from the club.
