david in sweden Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 and 66 cap Maltese international was a real thorn in Sweden's side in the World Cup Qual in Valetta. A brick wall defence and some heroic keeping made life difficult for the shot-shy Swedes who missed a dozen decent chances but eventually won 1-0... an own goal in the 80th min. Tough on the Malts. to be honest. The Swedes who had good command of midfield will draw a breath of relief in taking the 3 points but will ask questions on how the speedy Mifsud turned the Swedish defence and came periously close to scoring several times. Mifsud (a Saga look-a-like) is 28 had a couple of good seasons with Coventry 16 goals from 86 starts.. and a couple more on a loan period with Barnsley, ......before being inexplicably released by CCFC. TIP : Are you listening Alan Pardew..he's worth a look.
Saint Martini Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 Typical counterattack player and not as good when a team has to make the play. Wouldn't add much to the current squad.
Saint_clark Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 Typical counterattack player and not as good when a team has to make the play. Wouldn't add much to the current squad. Disagree. That is exactly the sort of player we need up front with Lambert, someone who will move into the channels and run with the ball.
saint_stevo Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 been banging on bout him for a while.......ideal, pace and a goalscoring touch. Would be delighted if he came here. Possible question marks over a big time charlie attitude......
Colinjb Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 I started a thread about him a while ago. Obviously my Maltese and Coventry connections play a part there but I do genuinely rate him. Would love him to join us.

Possible question marks over a big time charlie attitude...... He hasn't scored goals on a regular basis anywhere except in the Maltese league. You can hardly claim he has a scoring touch. His goalscoring record is quite similar to someone like Saganowski. I really do not see the point of him.

oxfordshire_saint Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 Maybe he'll drop his expectations. Apparently teams like Newcastle were interested but he was demanding big bucks without having the reputation to justify it (not that it's stopped Newcastle in the past, maybe they're learning?) benjii Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 If he's looking for a club he should give the Skates a ring. He'd definitely get a trial at least.

He did well at Old Trafford when Cov won in the league cup not that long ago which proved he has the bottle and ability to play at a decent level. One match, that really doesn't mean anything. Besides that was pretty much a Manu reserve team he played against.
saintsmike25 Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 16 Goals in 86 starts? I think even Bradley Wright Philips or DMG could hit the net alot more than that. He might have pace but by all accounts is apparently a bit of a trouble maker.

Well he's performed ok at championship level for a number of seasons which is a bit better than league 1.

For Southampton: Wright-Phillips 111 appearances, 22 goals McGoldrick 64 appearances, 12 goals (These are just appearances, not starts) Pretty close though. I want Mifsud at this club, I have seen him play and know what he can do. I want him here and no stat talk will change my mind on that.
Micky Posted 9 September, 2009 Share Posted 9 September, 2009 Not for me thanks - tends to turn up when the cameras do, but otherwise work shy and probably not suited to a long hard slog in League 1. We need team players right now - not over inflated egos - and for those reasons, I'm out..!
maltasaints Posted 10 September, 2009 Share Posted 10 September, 2009 Micheal is probably one of the best players we have produced, he is fast and has a lot of experience behind him, the coventry affair was ruined buy his greedy agent demanding more than he was worth and this put him in a bad light with a lot of clubs. I think he would do quite well in the 1st division to be honest he's a hard worker and caused the swedes a lot of issues last nite, jammy gits those swedes. maltasaints Posted 10 September, 2009 Share Posted 10 September, 2009 Micheal is a good player, he's a very down to earth person, his agent is the one who is making him look like a premadonna and keeps insisting on high wages and big clubs. He isn't a premiership player but he's a very good good 1st and a not bad championship one.

So when Misfud is playing for the Malta, the TV cameras will definitely be there.

The Swedes were EXTREMELY lucky ..and to think that they had to win by an own goal. Watching the game on Cable here in Stockholm my son was ranting at the ineptitude of the Swedish strikers, (especially Källström and Hysén ) who both missed several good chances. Anders (Svensson) said that the joy of winning his 100th cap was tempered by, what he called, " the worst international game he'd ever played in ". Whether Midsud just had " a good game " or if he is capable of producing this form regularly ..is a good question. Even though he was the sole striker, he certainly gave the Swedes backline a few frights, but fortunately goalie Isaksson was in good form. Does he not have a tongue in his head to tell his agent to stfu?

Jesus Reigned Posted 12 September, 2009 Share Posted 12 September, 2009 (edited) He's got a very bad attitude by all accounts, and we don't want anyone upsetting the applecart so I'd steer clear. I remember Bristol City were on the verge of signing him a couple of seasons ago and Gary Johnson pullled the plug at the last minute due to his attitude. Edited 12 September, 2009 by Jesus Reigned Poor punctuation; must do better!!
