Keeping fans in after the game

Don't know if this has been discussed already, but SAints must be the only team in the land that stops its home supporters accessing parts of the ground after the game so the away fans can be let out? Surely a 'lock in' of away fans, as happens everywhere else, would stop a fair bit of the trouble that keeps happening on the bridge and by the Alfred?

I sent an e-mail to Luker ref: locking them in for 10 mins, he said it was against their human rights!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luker is right. Bloody stupid idea keeping people locked in just on the off chance it might prevent a small handful of people having a pop at another small handful who want to be popped at.

Just common sense really mate, keeping away fans in the concourse for 10 mins after the game reduces the chance of conflict massively.

You are right though, if people want trouble they'll find, locking them in does mean innocent fans with no interest of trouble don't get caught up around Britannia road coaches!

What I find is that closing the north car park means that I have to walk further and so by the time that I get round to Britannia road I meet all the away fans coming out of the ground. If it's against human rights then why have I been kept behind at Fratton Park and Ninian Park for over an hour on more than one occasion?

A lazy answer there I think. Human rights legislation is frequently used to justify inaction, which is what Luker has done here. But, if keeping away fans in the ground for ten minutes would infringe their human rights, how come it happens every week in most football grounds around the country? I haven't noticed any football clubs being taken to court by rights-hungry away fans.

Until this season I would park in a mates garage in Wilson Street, me and my nephew would always walk past the away coaches, the only time we got 'caught up' in any trouble was the last premiership game against United, absolute idiotic behaviour by a few of their fans, grown men attempting to threaten me when it is evident I had, a then eleven year old boy, with me, fortunately nothing serious occurred but many years on my nephew recalls how scared he felt at that time.

Keep them back I say, Britania Road would clear very quickly and those that have 'arranged' the ultra-violence simply have to wait a little longer

Suggested something similar yesterday - we started to wlak down Britannia Road after games because it was quicker than the bridge - and boy trouble was just around the corner if you wanted it!

What is it with away fans?

I see it with our own loyal band...not everyone but just a few!

Going to away games on one's own is at best fun, but if someone has got "done" by this minority - it can be a little nervous walking around waiting for their gang to find you!

I agre with the majority on here - why not just have a beer and a bit of banter without resorting to the 1980's?

I've heard all the excuses before - they were on our manor taking the p*ss, so we did 'em!!!

GROW UP!

Frankly, that's a load of rubbish, as in not true. Ask him again to explain exactly which article of the Human Rights Act (1998) would be breached and why.

Here Here! That was unbelievable the way were treated that day. I made a complaint about the behaviour of some of the Heddlu that day, not that I ever heard anything back about. Their conduct in some cases was appalling.

so, on this board in the last few days..

we have moaned about UNDER policing in recent weeks at SMS and then moan about OVER policing at other grounds...

hmmmm, my guess..the police cant win

Spoke to David Luker today (well by email) and it is not the club's opinion that keeping fans in is a breach of their Human Rights. However the Safety team will be responding to me, and I'll let you know what the situation is in reality.

Wouldnt surprise me, I was at Stamford bridge where they let out 31k scum fans and 6k QPR fans at the same time and the away fans had to cross paths with the home to get to the tube.

Although it did have a positive side, one scum fan who had watched too much football factory shouted out with his arms held out "come on then you rangers mu..." and he had his teeth knocked out before he could even finish the sentence. :D

An interesting post this!!

Though relating to a different subject, the stewards in the Kingsland North are currently having a go at standing fans led by that icon of fit men "Ian." You know the one if you stand anywhere near that area of the ground!!

When asked a couple of games ago which section of the ground rules required us to all sit he hadn't a clue. Always told if you enforce a law make sure you know what it is!! Funnilly enough when asked why nothing is done about the Northam standing he says "that is not my area. If you wish to stand then go in that area" Very intereseting STAND point.

To return to your point, he wont have a clue which section applies.

This is where football can take a leaf out of rugbys book. I'm a season ticket holder at Harlequins (the cheats). Sold out for almost every game (nearly 13k, next week new stand open will be nearly 15k), no segregation, 1 pc 1 wpc at the match who leave as soon as the final whistle goes, take drink to your seat, live band after the game, followed by a "disco", the players eat after match meals and drink in the same bar as us. Fans of both sides want to stay after the game with maybe one or two bits of "trouble" a season. Cost of season ticket? £175.00 for about 18 games.

Obviously you are right mate, this is how football should be, but for some reason it isn't and never will be and i have no answer to why.

I went to Lords for the C&G final, sat next to a Skate and friendly chatted away all day. Put me @ a Saints game and I'm a completely different animal, aggressive, territorial, blindly loyal, passionate, "this is my club, my city" mentality???????

The Safety at Sports Ground Act (1975) is the one which introduced compulsory seating, but not for League 1 or 2 grounds. However, Health and Safety regulations will be used to control standing in seated areas, as the construction of seated stands is not designed to facilitate standing, and Hillsborough-type crushes are far more likely to occur.

Oh believe me, it is. The trouble is once the stewards get up to a certain point something usually happens in the game to make everyone stand up, so they never manage to get people backwards of row R to sit down usually.

Seriously thinking about moving my seat to further back, he does my f*cking head in.

"sit down please.....seats please gents.....take your seats please....sit down lads.....please sit down everyone.." all f*cking game long.
