the next 5 years....

.or whatever the timeframe ML / NC are planning for looks exciting. If money buys successful teams (which Chelsea and Man U.seem to think) then at least we have some secure backing, and we don't need the likes of Drogba and Wayne Rooney in this league,(as Lambert, Lallana amd Connolly seem to be doing OK thank you).

BUT somehow the whole idea of OUR team picking up so many positive results and scoring lots of goals is really encouraging, no matter what league you are in.Naturally, there's a lot of prestige being in the Prem. but when you consider in those 27 years we had, we barely finished in the top 10 more than half-a-dozen times, while much of that time we were still holding our breath in the last week of the season.

Look at the current Prem. table almost everyone in the bottom half could be in the relegation zone if they lose 2 or 3 games before New Year, and most of them have hardly managed a goal per game. Stressful and boring and very little prestige.

Whereas we were on a hiding to nothing from day 1. For us to get a play-off place this season and then get promoted would sound like a Biblical miracle, or a crazy Hollywood script. Meanwhile we march on, scoring lots of goals and with a steadily improving team - who knows what will happen?

Personally, whether it's L1 or CCC is immaterial right now. We have a good team and a great manager .and who knows how far we might go?.

COYR !!

For me, the most encouraging aspect is that we are playing positive exciting football again, which is the trademark Saints football that the club has been famous for. I did not expect this would be possible in the rough and tumble of league 1.

How far we go is dependent on Alan, Nicola and Marcus being able to attract the footballers that make this possible in each division, and I am confident they will. Onwards and upwards!

I like the idea of building on the youth and developing the best youth academy in the south coast and attracting people to the club because of a superior set up..

It's laughable that as a League One club we have a better set up on every level than Portsmouth... Utterly laughable...

We have a better set up than a good number of the Prem clubs, I like a good many others am enjoying my football again. With the plans for Marchwood the next five years do look very interesting.

Agreed, investing in Staplewood's infrastructure does send a loud message of intent. Imagine being a proud parent, being shown round such a complex with your son, ML/NC are going to make it hard for your family to say no to Saints!

We must have done, surely.

To answer myself, I think we came in the top half 10 times. One or two of those may have been 11th place, as there were more teams in those days.

There's nothing wrong with trying to bring players through as well as buying them in, pretty much all the top teams with the exception of Chelsea in the last 5 years have tried to do this, but you're only as good as the kids you can attract.

Luckily for Saints that lot down the road who have a more attractive league to play in and also might have enticed some talented players away from us also have no clue what the hell they're doing. Unluckily we have lost a lot of proven, talented people from our youth setup since the Prem days.

i think our spell in the top flight was amazing but since weve dropped out, though sad not to be playing the top teams every week ive really enjoyed this season, especially away games where its rare to get hassled to sit down,we take good numbers and the football aint too bad.when back in the ccc there are still big clubs there, who like to play like us,i really wouldnt care if we went back to the prem,4 clubs, maybe 5 who can win it,everyone else trying to avoid the drop and have a cup run.all about money, bring back the old days when we all had a chance of wining it,coyr

14, 8, 6, 7, 12, 2, 5, 14, 12, 12, 13, 7, 14, 16, 18, 18, 10, 17, 16, 12, 17, 15, 10, 11, 8, 12, 20.

Depends whether you consider 9 is "barely more" than 6 as a proportion of 27 or not ?

Although the mode is 11, the geometric average is best for this sort of data weighing in at 11.7581. So 12th.

On a kind of related note, I have asked this before but haven't got an answer. Does anyone know if Markus has children? His wiki page doesn't even say if he is married. I understand he likes his privacy and god willing, even though he is in his 60s, he has plenty of good years left in him but it would be reassuring to know that when the day comes the club will be passed down to an heir as opposed to being part of his estate which, if he had no children, would surely be carved up by the adminstrators of his will leaving the future of the club once again up in the air (or heir!)

TBF the prem is been very high scoring this year. I would be srprised if many team had not scored a fair bit more than a goal a game. Everything else I agree with.

I have to admit that it was an off the cuff remark, but I now see (after checking) that;

Most Prem. sides have played 15 games, so far; and they are nearly halfway through THEIR season. (38 games)

11 Prem. sides have scored up to 19 goals... OR LESS.

4 of those have actually scored LESS than 15 goals. (Pompey 13)

Although my original guess wasn't that accurate,, its not so far from the truth and must be pretty boring for their fans,

....don't you think ! I much prefer having my side score 3 every week.

Thanks for the maths Draino, I enjoy stats. but maths isn't my strong point.

We always talk about those 27 years in the "top divison" though of course,

but the " Prem." as such has only been with us since 1992.

If you look "too closely " at those stats.- it's even more depressing.

Of 13 seasons in the Premiership from 1992-93, we finished 8th once and

10th twice, the rest of the time it was a bit more of a struggle.

Thank God we had MLT !
