Clunge Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Not strictly saints related but kind of is. Just glad he dont play for us anymore after his actions at the weekend, absolute disgrace. fagan now has a broken leg and will miss a good chunk of the season, no excuse for it. He never seemed to have a temperament like that in a saints shirt.
Mr Saints Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Can't excuse the tackle but Fagan's behaviour was also a disgrace in the two play off games against Derby.

Dicko Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Guthrie committed the cardinal sin of trying to seriously hurt an opponent. It was a fookin disgrace and they should ban him for 12 matches

Whitey Grandad Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 It was the sort of action which often leads to a ciminal or civil action, and quite rightly too. I would not be surprised if the FA took some further action. Sometimes a red card is not enough.
Thedelldays Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 I liked Guthrie here but he was a complete **** at the weekend. Opposite to Lancashire's red with a young player making an over enthusiastic mistimed tackle for the ball. Guthrie was just annoyed and trying to hurt someone. The ball might as well have been at the other end of the pitch. He'll form a lovely partnership with Barton. oh come on...a rush of blood to the head and you put him in the same bracket as barton.... jeeeeeez
aintforever Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Guthrie was a great player for us, if it wasn't for him we would have got nowhere near the playoffs that season. He was just frustrated, no surprise for a young kid in that atmosphere.
Saint Martini Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Fagan broke his leg? I'd sue Guthrie to be honest. That was nothing short of assault, even if it was during a football match.
Matt SFC Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Fagans one of the dirtiest players in the game, and has gone out of his way to injure other players in the past. A taste of his own medicine i think.

SuperMikey Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 I don't think it was entirely malicious, like thedelldays said, i'd put it down to a rush of blood to the head. He wanted to win the ball back and just got a bit carried away. But how the fook did Fagan get a broken leg from that? He got up and was arguing with the ref ffs! Did he slip on his way to the team coach or something..?

TijuanaTim Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 ....what ex-Saint loanee did Sunday?...Harsh I know, but in this case I truly believe the little thug should be banned until Fagen's first team return and then should start whatever ban he was gonna get for that double cowardly attack...Come on someone give me one good reason why in this case that would not be just. He knew exactly what he was doing, it was unprovoked and petulent...what's more he has no remorse.
ottery st mary Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 Rush of blood, frustration or whatever he has committed a criminal offence for which he should face the consequences. If Fagan does not take it further then Guthrie should not play football again until his victim does. I am a Guthrie supporter and wished we could have kept him here. No excuse for his behaviour on the day. I wonder if he had seen some video of Mark Dennis or Dennis Hollywood.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 I'm quite sure Guthrie intended to kick/foul Fagan and he'll have to take his deserved red card and any further punishment imposed by the FA like a man . However to state that he deliberately intended to break another players leg or that he's no sense of remorse over this regrettable incident is going to far - I see no evidence in his record or having seen him play for SFC that he's that type of lad . Thedelldays Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 Where did I say that? I said he'd form a lovely partnership with Barton. I didn't suggest he'd form a lovely crime and assault partnership off the pitch with Barton. so what gives you the impression he would form a lovely partnership on the pitch...? ulstersaint Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 I thought it was a good tackle It was not a tackle - it was assault with the intention of deliberately and wilfully causing physical pain, harm and damage to a fellow professional. We seem to be overlooking the fact that he had one excessively violent go, when that failed he gathered himself again and thought to re-assault a defenceless player from behind. And yes he did intend to break his leg....

I've no comprehension of how you can so catagoricly state with 100% black or white certainty he intended to break Fagan's leg - only Danny Guthrie or a mind reader can answer that question . I'm prepared to give a young player the benefit of the (considerable) doubt in this instance - until I'm proved wrong that is .

There is absolutely no way that his last and most violent 'tackle' could be interpreted as an attempt to get the ball. The red mist had clearly descended and any reasonable person looking at that 'assault' would expect the outcome to be serious physical damage to his opponent. If he had done it in the street he would have already been charged. There is no place for that sort of behaviour in any level of football.

Charlie all respect to you mate, very admirable and even more optimistic than even I normally am. You are someone that I can definitely read with interest. In my opinion, Guthrie, unprovoked, decided he would run up to a defenceless opponent a pre-meditatedly and visciously (let's say - just) 'foul' that player...heck that happens a lot in the game, for one reason or another. Despite this cringingly awful 'foul' the game little opponent didn't go down like so many of today's '*****es' but continued attempting to play (I bet he wished he had gone down after the initial meaningless 'foul'). So Guthrie, not satisfied with getting away with the first violent 'foul', collected himself and decided that his decision would be to assault his adversary and this time it was more than a 'foul'. If you decide to punch someone in the face you may not have written it down and taken a sworn statement of intent to break that person's nose or jaw...but most probably that is what you are going to or intending to do. The first was temper, the second was worse and can only be understood as a pre-thought action. All bets for that little 9 karat ¢unt were off after he decided to do it TWICE FFS
