callysaint76 Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 I would rather experience all the highs and (mainly) low(e)s than just achieve midtable mediocrity. Far more entertaining leaving everything to the last day of the season!

S-Clarke Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 Good thread DD. It's certainly been an interesting decade, that's for sure. Every season has involved some sort of drama or event....it's not a boring club to support by any means! It also goes to show how quickly football can change around (for e.g. - Hull and Swansea were languishing around in the bottom half of L2 10 years ago...) I have no doubts that whilst we have Nicola and Markus at the helm, in 10 years from now we will be back as a top 10 premiership club. - That’s our ''sustainable'' level IMO, but who knows...their vision by then may be even more ambitious. From here it looks like it will be another interesting decade...with many more highs on the horizon.

Redondo Saint Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 Having been away since 2001, I am sorry to have missed some games but not sorry to have missed the seasons in comparison to the '90s and '80s. Have we ever had a 'stand-out' player from this decade? The notable players for me have been Marsden, Beattie, Bridge, Niemi. Walcott and Bale didn't play enough games for me to include. I am struggling to think of many more..............

BTW, "proper" is an adjective, not an adverb. You meant 'properly', eh?! For question 2 I should have said 'just before the end of its first decade'. This decade began on the 1st January 2000, just after all the fireworks. 'learn proper' is an idiomatic expression that is used in parts of London with which I have been associated and I used it in a feeble attempt at ironic comic effect. A similar expression is used south of you in the form 'now listen, and listen good' but I know from experience that Canadians are better educated than that. A car's odometer will show zero until it has completed its first mile. The correct use of the zero for the start of a count is well-known by computer programmers, but less so by normal people. mancsaint Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 The decade doesn't end until the end of next year. HTH Absolutely true. One our first birthday we have lived for 1 year therefore only on our tenth birthday will we have lived for a decade. Hence one century ends at midnight at the end of the 100th year and the next century starts then. We should have celebrated the start of the new millenium at midnight on 31st December 2000 but did so when we went from 1999 to 2000 because it sort of seemed right, but it wasn't. mancsaint Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 It all depends on when you start counting. It goes back to the year dot. Correct, a decade is a full ten years from any given point in time. The noughties is 2000 to 2009, ten complete years. From the point when we went from BC to AD it takes to the end of year 2000 to go through two millenia, not 1999. Mancsaint

SNSUN Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 We hit rock bottom, it was before the beginning of this season, knowing we were going to be in League One with -10, without a pot to ****** in, still stuck in the depths of administration. Then a nice man call Markus Liebherr heard the prayers. Had he not come in, we'd be very lucky to still have a club to support, it's amazing to think that we could have started this decade flying high in the Premiership and end it non-existant. Lordy knows what the next ten years will bring, but we can be reasonably assured that the first couple of them will be good!
