Whitey Grandad Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 I'm sure that if AP had wanted him we could have had him back on loan. I prefer a permanent signing, myself.

SNSUN Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 No he is poor. Fonte looked so much better than him on saturday. We have cover at center back now. He wasn't poor, he was solid to begin with when playing with Jaidi, but lost his way towards the end. He was only cover and the players Pardew wanted permanently were available, so we went for them instead.
eesti matty Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 I think that Trotman is a no frills defender who does the simple things well, but he is not very cultured and lacks pace. Whilst you don't have to be a Rio Ferdinand at this level, I feel we're better served with the likes of Fonte and Seaborne.

Tokyo-Saint Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Seaborne is left footed, ideal for the left CB spot and allows us to play out of defence. Trottman was effective, good in the air but similar to Jaidi. Too similar to Jaidi for it to work, both are good in the air, turn like the titanic and spoon feet. Onwards and upwards with the two we have now.

Can't judge him to e any good on the strength of one game either. Hope he does well. We shall see.
david in sweden Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Preston North End boss Darren Ferguson has confirmed Neal Trotman is discussing a loan move to Huddersfield Town. Have we missed the boat on this one NO (IMHO)... it was a good decision not to take him back. One good example of when a loan deal is a productive move. I think AP had enough time to look at him, but NT did seem to be a bit inconsistant, and AP obviously decided we could do better. If his answer to that question was Forte..I think it was a good decision. Trotman may well DAJ for Hudd'f'd but players move anyway and for those clubs with no money loans are the only option when they can't buy. They obviously STILL don't rate him at his home club. Dan Johnson Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Trotters loan was ideal for both parties & he done well for us. I think towards the end of his deal it became apparent that he still has a fair few weaknesses to his game. If we still hadn’t signed a centre back then I think yes, it would have been a mistake not to renew the loan as he would have done an adequate job for us. However with the players we’ve signed I think it’s clear that we’re trying to push on in terms of quality and I think the players we’ve signed will do a better job for us. Best of luck to him, one of the most productive loan signings we’ve ever had

Onwards and upwards with the two we have now. Not sure why being left footed as a left centre-back is an especially good thing ? If you assume the most vulnerable point of the defence (i.e. where the opposition is nearest the goal and most able to score from) is the middle channel, going between the two centre backs, then playing a left footer on the right and a right footer on the left provides the strongest foot for challenging for both players against someone attacking the middle channel. Playing a right footer on the right CB position and the left footer on the left means they'd both be tackling with their weaker foot if someone went straight for goal between them. Of course, there's a lot to be said for which foot the opponent prefers too, but you started it !
Under Weststand Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 Trotman was just what we needed to get us through to the transfer window, he showed a lot of potential at the start, but when Irvine stirred the pot towards the end it really unsettled him, & raised question marks about his temperament. Would have been happy to have him back on loan, but we have now got a better option in Fonte, & who knows Seabourne may well turn out to be a good signing. But wish him well for the future. eesti matty Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 you're suggesting Seaborne is cultured? I hope you are right. I think it's too early to say either way, but I hope that Seaborne has more pace than Trotman. I think the lack of pace at centre back was something being exposed by the opposition. We've added a bit more pace to the side since the start of the season and hopefully it will make a difference. When I was referring to being cultured, I was primarily referring to Fonte. fareham saint phil Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 After just one game you could see how good Fonte is so he's a better option than NT, I wish him all the best at Hudd (apart from when we play them) as he done a job for us when we needed it. Thank you and move on
Joensuu Posted 20 January, 2010 Share Posted 20 January, 2010 I wish Trotman all the best. In several games early on in the season his workrate made him stand out. One game (Colchester home?) he was IMO the best player in our team, trying to get the others organised and to keep pushing. He has all the basics (except pace) for being a good centre back. If he works on his reading of the game, positioning and reactions, while gaining a more years experience, I feel he could become a solid Championship defender.
