Saintmike666 Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 Regarding the Pardew rumours... ''FAO Nicola Cortese Good day to you sir. Firstly let me start by saying the obvious and thanking you for the fantastic job you and your team have done so far. You have reinvigorated this old club, it feels fresh and new... it feels exciting and for the first time in years it feels like we’re moving in the right direction. I have thoroughly enjoyed this campaign and I can’t wait for next seasons promotion push to commence! I’m writing to you though with a certain degree of concern, I have read through certain media outlets that Alan Pardew is in danger of losing his job as Manager. In all honesty when I first read this I just assumed it was merely media hype, but I’m growing increasingly concerned because as yet there doesn’t seem to be any sort of denial coming from St Mary’s regarding this story. In fact I became very worried at hearing that ‘Southampton Football Club have declined to comment’. What Alan has achieved this season has been nothing short of fantastic. He has had to reinstall a winning mentality into the club; this for me is his biggest achievement. This club was one that accepted defeat; we had become used to it. But under Alan’s management the feel good factor has returned to St Mary’s. We believe we can win every game! If it wasn’t for the 10 point deduction we’d be going into the last game of the season with a realistic chance of being promoted automatically and finishing 2nd. That is remarkable for a club that only 12 months ago merely accepted defeat as par for the course. I truly believe that under Alan’s guidance this club will go from strength to strength next campaign. Please, I implore you, if there is any truth in this media hype, please give Mr Pardew the time he needs. Thank you for your time, and thank you again for everything you have done for this football club.''
norwaysaint Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 Most people would surely stop reading after the horrific opening line: "Good day to you sir". Would you ever actually start a formal or informal conversation with anybody with those words?
Arizona Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 I'm sure there is nothing in these rumours. Without the minus 10 we'd be in 2nd place at the moment (I'm fairly confident we'd have beat Gillingham with our strongest side and more motivation). Cortese isn't an idiot, I think we're getting paranoid after the Lowe years.

But I'd already copied and pasted it on here by that point...

Frank's cousin Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 I doubt we will here anything from NC... not the type to pay these media reports any attention... we do not know what wa agreed between NC and Pards when the cash was made available - if its true that it was conditional and Pards 'failed', I woudl not be surprised if he went because that strict approach may seem ruthless, but it ultimately gets results... having said that I also think NC is the type who will have learned VERY quickly that in football things are sometimes less black and white than in business and will no doubt seek further advice before any decsion in made... Saint Mikey Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 What's Cortese's email address? I want to make sure he bucks up his ideas and starts stocking Ye Olde Ringwood Ale. Doesn't he know how many half pints he'll sell?

Was it so long ago when we were all against the CEO getting involved in football matters and jsut wanted them to let the manager get on and manage? Of course you fully support Cortese Alpine, you are hoping that he is going to get rid of Pardew aren't you?
Thedelldays Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 what a cringeworthy email I support cortese more than anyone at the club...he brought a billionaire owner to us ffs..and ensured we are sercured for a long time.. IF (i said IF before anyone wets themselves and accuses me of anything) he sacks pardew then that will be that..I have every confidence that should that happen, we will get someone in who will do at least an equal job...remember this place at the start of the season when people were "underwhelmed" at best with his appointment I hope pardew stays, I really do.. The Kraken Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 IF (i said IF before anyone wets themselves and accuses me of anything) he sacks pardew then that will be that..I have every confidence that should that happen, we will get someone in who will do at least an equal job...remember this place at the start of the season when people were "underwhelmed" at best with his appointment I hope pardew stays, I really do.. That's fair enough, and I agree that there's little doubt that IF we get rid of AP then he will be replaced with another high quality manager. However, to replace him would be an indictment that our form since October has been sub-standard; despite that level of form being otherwise good enough over a whole season to gain automatic promotion or even win this league. It took AP 3 weeks of pre-season then 10 league games to hit any sort of form, and that was generally considered to be a very quick turnaround of out fortunes. Its therefore a huge gamble to expect us to be able to replicate that in the off-season and I think its a risk that, at this stage, is not necessary to take. AP has shown he is up to the task of automatic promotion type form, so why change? I think its a moot point anyway as this is just a national newspaper raking up an old local story without any new substance, quotes or information. I can't imagine that NC would say goodbye to AP without knowing exactly what he wanted in his place, and having secured it. And that wouldn't just be another punt at somebody else. It would be with a clear idea of the football this club would be playing. I think the signing of AP was a good move at the time it was made. There was no time to think things through too thoroughly, and he has done well. Whether it is the long term future is another matter.
SuperMikey Posted 4 May, 2010 Share Posted 4 May, 2010 Why the hate? He's simply telling Cortese what he thinks, and what most of the fans on here are also thinking. Not sure he's attention seeking, more trying to raise the point that we want Pardew to stay, and trying to address that and bring it to Cortese's attention if these rumours are to be believed. Unbelievable the amount of monginess on this forum..
