St Marco Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 The Sun just posted an interview with him http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/worldcup2010/3000647/Spain-star-Xavi-says-his-football-hero-was-Matt-Le-Tissier.html I remember this was mentioned awhile ago, not sure if just the sun got wind of it or a whole new interview. Nice read though

Saint_clark Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 I was the one who posted the 442 interview, but these are completely different quotes - he obviously talks about Le Tiss a lot

Stud mark of doom Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 Interesting comment in response to this, which I had never heard before "I lived in Mexico in 1994 and on south American ESPN during each adverts they used to show El Le Tissier 'alto cinco' (top five) goals on TV." Matt's best goals in every advert break? Perhaps something for ITV to consider.

Turkish Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 Xavi clearly wants to come and play for us. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=22143 I started this completely unsubstanciated rumour off a few weeks ago and was scorned for it, maybe there is some truth in it afterall. corky morris Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 All that does for me is confirm what I have always thought about Graham Taylor, Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle & the English media.........that they would not know a quality footballer if it hit them!!!! You never hear of any overseas international saying "when I was a kid i idolised Sherringham or Anderton"

I think i'd probably die if that happened. Best player in the world over the last two seasons, doesn't have the same impact as say Messi, Rooney or Ronaldo but he simply doesn't have bad games. I don't think it's a coincidence that Messi can't find his Barca form for Agrentina. Still a level belows Le Tissier of course.

Its obviously you that know nothing about football, hence why you are doing whatever it is you do for a living and they have managed our country. JRM Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 If only the le tiss consortium had been successful we would be attracting players of this quality now! Ok maybe not, but does show it would be a good move for cortese to have him onboard to help attract players.

Probably burnt his bridges with the Pinnacle thing though...and I doubt if Cortese would want anyone stealing his limelight

I was on a company hospitality day at the Euro 96 game between France and Spain in Leeds, and we had Norman Hunter and Mcqueen as our after dinner speakers before going off to watch the game. In the q and a session, I asked Hunter what he thought of Matt's exclusion from the England squad and was quite astonished when his reply was that Tiss was too much of a luxury for the England team in the tournament, he said that his inability to defend meant that he offered too little to be of any worth to the team. He was really slagging Matt off. Just gave me another reason to dislike Leeds.

Total crap, and one of the reasons why England never ultimately went all the way in World Championship competitions. Special teams have that special extra. England never had that back then. Besides, attacking midfielders are not normally noted for their defensive capabilities. You wouldn't see a Brazilian attacking midfielder anywhere near his own penalty box. In fact, he probably wouldn't recognise the area until the second half.
Turkish Posted 5 June, 2010 Share Posted 5 June, 2010 (edited) You forgot to add in the winking emoticon. No i didn't, i meant it, there is no place in the modern game for players who are skillful and creative and can score goals out of nothing from 35 yards. What we need are teams of robots who can run all day, close down, tackle and pass sideways or backwards. We will never progress as a football nation unless we move with the times. And Andy Hinchcliffe took the best curling left wing corner i have ever seen, for that alone he deserves 100 England caps, forget the fact that as a footballer he was as convincing as the crossbow cannibals defence barrister.
