Why does Sky hate SFC so much ??

I see they've decided they want another slice of screening SFC misfortune - the Palace game.

Is it Sky that has some sort of grudge, or do they think the averager Manyoo, Arse and Chelski fan gets off on this sort of thing on a Monday evening ?

To be honest, you have been saying how crap we are for ages, so by your reasoning most teams, if not all, could beat us, so who do you suggest we have a televised match against?

It gives their managers a chance to scout Lallana without having to leave their hosue.

Whatever.

I'd bet you'd be happy to discuss it sensibly if someone else started the thread.

No wonder this place is so quiet nowadays.

Annoyingly, I always find whenever I watch us on TV - we seem to lose.

In fact, I think the last time I watched us "win" on TV was at Pride Park in the play offs, and that didn't exactly feel like a win!

As in the last few years we have probably lost more games than we have won it is not surprising that we lose when on TV.

I think the thread heading was unfortunate but it got the intended attention.

Sky pick games that htey deem will be interesting and p erhaps crucial at the time they wish to screen it.At present it looks like a relegation 6 pointer and so they went fofr it.

I'm actually quite pleased that we seem to be getting more than our fair share of games. With the crowds probably down to the 'I'd go to the game even if it is on Sky' level anyway so it's a handy bit of extra income (assuming I'm right and the club gets extra money for each televised clash?) and gives me a chance to watch a couple of games I wouldn't be able to other wise.

Provided of course I can find a pub that isn't showing the Setanta Premiership matches :(

Alpine, surely if we were playing a weaker team you'd be saying "they're only televising the match because they're hoping for a giant killing" In essence SKY area damned if they televise us at all in your eyes? I would have thought if anything, Palace are a good match against us as they have a young team too.

Why was it unfortunate ?

For as long as I can remember in detail (the 1979 League Cup Final when SFC broke my hear the first time), the media have appeared to me to be biased for our opposition.

I listened to that match on the radio, and I swear the commentator and co-commentator were jerking off whenever Gary Birtles got the f**king ball. (if an innocent 9 year-old would have known what jerking off was at the time....)

I remember Dave Jones being interviewed after one live Sky match and he said something along the lines of

"Yeah, tricky game against lower league opposition, that's why you lot are here because you were expecting to see us get humilliated"

Well rather than give the answer "whatever" and then move into sulk mode, why don't you suggest a team that we could comfortably beat in this division that would be a good match to put on Sky. So far this year we have beaten a side currently second in the league and lost to a side two leagues below us. We have also only narrowly managed to beat a side by an own goal and a penalty that were in a league below us last year. What formula would you be using to work out a way that proves Sky "like" us, exactly, or are you just moaning like always?

I cannot comment on the Nottm Forest game as I was at Wembley.

But in over forty five years watching the Saints I have not noticed any bias.

As I said earlier as we are not very good these days it is not surprising we lose on TV

Its all a conspiracy....not. ITV never show much of Saints games on the highlights at the weekends. Sky seem to enjoy showing us away from home (no figures to back that up though) but maybe we expect a defeat because we've become conditioned to expect it from following Saints all these years. We do have a crap away record compared with many teams.

We were the main match on the ITV Championship show for the second week of the season.

If anything Sky have a bias towards Saints - we are on Sky tons more than similar clubs of our stature and current standing. At the moment we seem to be on Sky more than Futurama.

They don't. They just hate me, you and Fresno bob. I am yet to see a Saints win on the goggle, and I am on the verge of NEVER watching them on the box ever again, prefering to spend my money down the road, and on the road.

At least my chances then are 50-50

NOt quite sure how some of you are working this out - Sky and any broadcaster pick games for two reasosn only - what it says within the contract as a minimum number of home games each team is given and secondly perhaps more importantly sides and games that should genearted the best possible audience share and thus allow them better figures when negotiating advertising revenues - its really that simple. I think what some may perceive as bias is sometimes from the commentators or 'expert' pundits who they choose, often deliberately to be controvercial.

There was perhaps the perception of bias against us when in teh prem because of the 'armchair figures' rweason we tended only to get our minimum home games live and minimal away games. Simple reason is advertising revenue based on viewing figures.

I suggest that we are being shown more than most simply because we are unpredictable at the moment, playing attacking football but not necessarily getting the results - it makes for a more entertaining spectacle - afterall why would sky want to show sides that have a reputaion deserved or otherwise that simply hoof and put 11 behind the ball when defending?

I think we get £35k for a home game ... not sure about away games though?
