spyinthesky Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 2-4 Reading - Played well until multi changes affected the result 0-1 Plymouth - Dominated game. Caught by sucker punch 1-1 Orient - Dominated game. Couldn't overcome massed defence. Defensive error. 2-0 Bournemouth - Eventually won in a fairly open game 0-1 Bolton - Good performance in a fairly open game against decent opposition 0-3 Swindon - Poor performance against a team who defended well and broke with pace 0-2 Rochdale - Poor performance. Couldn't break down an organised defence. Another defensive lapse, or two. P 7.. W 1.. D 1.. L 5.. F 5.. A 12.. Not good Relatively decent performances against teams who want to play football. Against well organised teams who soak up pressure and hit us on the break, we are pants, as Pardew warned we might be. Maybe we will be better way from home. Not good news for us season ticket holders!!
SO16_Saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 too much pressure at home and teams come to park the bus and hit us on the counter attack.
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 We were better away from home last season too - there is no pressure on us away from home. Need to be able toplay a different system at home which disrupts team from just sitting with two banks of four.... simples

doddisalegend Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Last year St Mary's was a fortress we hardly lost at home all season (was it three times in the league?). This year it's like f ucking Tescos free points with every visit.
The Kraken Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 too much pressure at home and teams come to park the bus and hit us on the counter attack. Pressure my arse. We were overwhelming favourites for a very good reason, in that we have players who have proved it at this level and above before. Pressure doesn't account for our poor start, we should have hit the ground running from the firt game. Sheff Wed were touted as 2nd favourites to go up this year and sit at the top of the table, with a game in hand. Pressure didn't get to them so it doesn't apply here. Our players need to grow a set and realise they have to earn victories, rather than just waiting for it to come. Today's performance was risible, and utterly rudderless, for which Clotese has to take some of the blame for.
Whitey Grandad Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 I blame the multiball. We've never played well when we're using it.
70's Mike Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 we have no Antoinio or Papa to come on to offer something different this season
derry Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 It's because we play the Pardew way, narrow, attacking the central defence with frontal assault and two sitting midfielders. Until we get to the bylines and turn the defenders whilst the strikers try and decoy the defenders out of the centre with the other three midfielders driving into the penalty area we will struggle to beat teams at home. derry Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 It's a wonder we won at all last season. Waigo and Antonio and Puncheon got to the byeline and provided decent chances at times last year.

beatlesaint Posted 5 September, 2010 Share Posted 5 September, 2010 It's a wonder we won at all last season. We won so many last year because Rickie was in **** hot form and buried virtually everything that came his way. We had Antonio and Papa to come off the bench and create their own brands of havoc and mayhem when opposition were getting tired. We had a fully fit Lallana. There is no great mystery IMHO

With an in-form Rickie and Lallana in the side yesterday we would have won imo.
