Saint_clark Posted 23 October, 2010 Share Posted 23 October, 2010 I think we need to dump this relaxed attitude the team have got. There's a fine line between that and complacency.
Tom28 Posted 23 October, 2010 Share Posted 23 October, 2010 I think the mostpleasing thing is that we are up there in the form table despite not really playing to the levels we played at last season (Tranmere game aside). We seem to be getting results despite not being convincing and hitting full stride. Bodes well for the rest of the season.
stockportsaint Posted 23 October, 2010 Share Posted 23 October, 2010 Annoyingly, Huddersfield are 4th bottom of that table, so they broke form to beat us last week. The first 3 of our next 6 are against teams in the bottom 6 of that form table - Notts County (a), Daggers (h) & Carlisle (a). Then we get the Posh(h), Brighton(h) and Hartlepool(a) - should be looking for 12 points minimum from these, which should put us up into the playoffs by early December. Brighton at home is definitely the toughest in that lot, although Hartlepool are coming into some form since Mick Wadsworth took over there. If we average 2 points a game for the rest of the season we'll end up on around 84 points, which on average over the last few years, would put us 2nd. Wonder if Adkins will ask Cortese for extra funds in January for a midfield general, a nippy winger and a pacy striker, in order to push us towards the top 2, based on what happened to Pardew when he asked for extra funds to push us into the playoffs. We are more than capable of all 18 points from those games, but knowing us we will beat Brighton and Peterbourough but lose to Daggers and Notts County. Panda Posted 23 October, 2010 Share Posted 23 October, 2010 If all the teams continue in the same form as they have done over the last 6 games then we will finish second, 15 points behind Brighton and 7 points ahead of Bournemouth who finish third! Sheff Weds, Peterborough and Bristol Rovers make up the other play off places. Of course, it won't finish like that, this is football we are talking about. teamsaint Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 There must be every chance that we will imporove as the season goes on...and that we will strengthen, if need be, in the window. The odd bad result happens....but you could get close to promotion by only beating the teams in the bottom half....we just need to keep picking up two points a game. Looks like the points required for promotion or playoffs will be lower this time.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Beat both Brighton and Peterborough within the space of 4 days, then I'll be confident of promotion.
The Kraken Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Adkins record so far with us reads as P8 W4 D2 L2. 14 points from 8 games, which over the course of a season would give us 80 points. Not yet championship winning form, but not too far away. A couple more wins against Notts County and D&R should see us looking much better off; likewise, anything less than 3 points against either and we risk being cast adrift by Brighton at the top. CWD Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 This Saturday could really kick us on. I've just looked at the fixture list and a lot of the teams above us are playing each other, so with a decent win we could be much closer. Just did it on predictor and I had us in 9th by close of play next saturday with a 2-0 win, 2 points off 2nd

A short time for stats as if you ignored that game it is suddenly at the requuired level
JackFrost Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 I am very encouraged by the start Adkins has made, we would NEVER have won that game playing like that last season.
