benjii Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/9092349.stm WTF is he talking about? "One of the best teams to come here"? Probably the worst I've seen this season (although I didn't see Tranmere).
Saint_clark Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Have to admit some of their passing was quite nice. The build up to the goal in particular. I also liked how direct they were when attacking, and got quite wound up that we didn't do that, favouring a slow, trotting along and then turning back approach. "Lots of people have give us compliments here saying we're the best team that's come here but that means nothing to me, we've got to be more professional" people have said this to him, not him saying it

"We came here and played a lot of give football and then we come here and pick our man and we've paid for it." probably a google translation from Jock to English. Agreed,an utter spacker. As a player I always viewed him as a poor man's David Speedie. I think it was Dickov who scewed a penalty miles wide against us when playing for Arsenal (in Grobelaar's first game after the 'bung' news broke).Saints won 1-0. My view if Oldham was that they pressed quite well and that caused us problems, but they couldn't keep it up for the whole game. They misplaced an awful lot of passes, and gave us chances by losing possession cheaply. Aside from the goal, I can't actually remember them having any other chances. Well kelvin had to make two good saves (one earlish in the first half and one at the death of the second). Misplaced passes were the order of the day from both teams on saturday. Oldham where a hard working out fit with a bit of niggle thrown in I could see how they where doing ok in this league. At least they didn't come to play(or rather not play) at SMS like they did last season.
eurosaint Posted 25 October, 2010 Share Posted 25 October, 2010 (edited) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/9092349.stm Actually I thought that they were one of the better teams to come here ! I expected them to park 10 men behind the ball, which they didn't, and we were never totally comfortable until the final whistle (Kelvin's last minute save being proof of that!). The BBC stats give them 52% of possession which amazes me but I thought that their 5 man midfield suppressed our 4 man system for long periods ! Edited 25 October, 2010 by eurosaint Spacing ! southbourne saint Posted 25 October, 2010 Share Posted 25 October, 2010 Is it just me, but they seemed a fitter bunch than are lot. They did try to play, we just had a bit more quality from the bench lets not kid ourselves we deserved to win but only just.

Probably the worst I've seen this season (although I didn't see Tranmere). Platitudes I'd wager. They were cynical, niggly and, at times, downright dirty. I'd not bracket Tranmere in with them as Tranmere, to me, were honest, workmanlike and tried their best.
Gordon Mockles Posted 25 October, 2010 Share Posted 25 October, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/9092349.stm WTF is he talking about? "One of the best teams to come here"? Probably the worst I've seen this season (although I didn't see Tranmere). To be fair, I struggled to understand much of the article. Some bizarre English language hybrid! We're scoring but wasting a hell of a lot of good chances. Puncheon alone must be approaching double figures. Even during Pre-match shooting practice I've seen striker after striker & attacking mid spray balls everywhere bar the net. They weren't as poor as Tranmere but it was a dull game. Oldham took their chances better than we generally have this season despite the result & ref. Kelvin doing what he does best, immense point blank reaction save much like another ex crap kicker (Paul Jones).
