Hi, details in the heading really. Exploring the forum and its history for a feature article in the xmas edition and just wanted everyone's thoughts on a couple of things.

- What purpose do you think football fan forums serve and what makes them so popular?

- What makes the Saints Forum in particular so popular - what do you like about it most?

If you post anything, can you state if you don't want it to be quoted in the article. Would be good to get range of member's opinions.

Also, can you email me at thesaintsfanzine@gmail.com if you fancy being fan of the month.

Cheers, Will

Fans forums are popular because anyone can immediately access them and contribute. Location doesn't matter either. The internet allows you to get information anywhere. Being in the midlands, france, madagascar... whatever. Means nothing, it's all here.

It is the immediate medium, you want info, it's here, you want speculation, you can start it, you want crap.... well.... you can read what you want into anything.

Saintsweb is popular because, as implied by Saint Andy 666, it is the direct continuation of Saintsforever via the Saints Forum. They were popular and have continued. There are others (TUI for example) but this site is the biggest and best due to it's lineage. What do I like? It's interactivity. You genuinely do get out of these what you put into them. I am now a site contributor.... that would never happen in anything more official, something needed doing, I wanted to help and here we are. If anyone cares enough they can make something happen. I'm sure you guys at the Fanzine feel the same.

This age of communication is great, isn't it.

Forums are popular because it gives everyone the chance to talk their arses off about any subject with like-minded people. I've lost count the amount of times i've bored my family and friends to death with tales of Saints games and rumours, so it's nice to be able to talk (or type) to people about goings-on and the sort. No longer will you be "that annoying bloke in the pub who won't shut up about Saints" because you'll be too busy on your laptop to be at the pub!

I think SaintsWeb is popular because it's the best, simple as that really. There's an eclectic mix of people which always makes for interesting and thought-provoking debates, and everyone is generally very nice and friendly.

It's also a very good way to meet fellow Saints fans, after just a few posts on a thread in The Arts forum a band was set up including me, Baj and NorthamSteve, which is going well.

The original SF forum started by Keith was great but since then this one in particular has gone down hill a lot. A lot of forum infighting and not just difference of opinions, you cant even spell something wrong or without someone having a go at you. This forum is lot more regulated than it used to be and a lot of people banned or original members now have just got fed up with the idiots on here and dont bother posting anymore. I do understand that it has to be regulated to some degree. I used the original forum a lot but now hardly use this one, its just not fun anymore.

Its not the forum, its the club and its decline. There is a direct correlation between the downfall of SFC and the downfall of these forums.

Lowe caused serious division that has not yet been recovered from. It will get better after a promotion or two.

A great cheerleading site that happily tows the club line, (hence your article). Not really geared towards dissent of any kind. For that look at alternative sites.

What you say has the ring of truth about it, but rest assured there are still a few of the 'Awkward Squad' left who are prepared to rock the boat every now and then if need be.

I say if we had a few more contributors who dared to question the 'powers that be' rather than what you so succinctly call 'cheerleaders' (a certain regular poster comes to mind) who think that endlessly parroting the company line is a worthwhile activity, then this site would be a more interesting place.

I met my partner through this forum. We first started chatting about football and seemed to have the same views on things. We started PMing each other then we eventually met up for a home game against Charlton a few years back. When I first saw him, I fell in love and he felt the same and we've been together ever since. We had a civil ceremony in August. So this forum really brings people together.

You can quote me in the fanzine if you like. But not my surname, thanks. Just put: Stuart from Romsey.

Agreed. I think sometimes people forget that we are in the 3rd Division. Rightly or wrongly, there are going to be less people bothered about 3rd Division Saints, and by extension less people looking at the forums than there were for Premiership Saints.

Staying on topic, I find the forum useful for reading news/ gossip/ opinions about the club as I rarely get to a game.

This I agree with entirely but what do you expect with a Gestapo in charge.
