Pubs for the Utd game

I'll not be paying £30 for this one, especially as its on terestrial tv, and want to find a pub that will be full of Saints fans to enjoy the match with.

Any ideas of pubs, preferably in the city centre with a decent sized screen that other people are planning on going to?

Yup, i'll be giving this one a miss too. Remember the last time we played them and what a total joke the game and atmosphere was. Last time between the plastic saints fans, the man utd fans in the home end and the referee and fixed outcome (as it usually is when Man Utd play) i had a truly **** day and was back in the pub well before the final whistle. 4 of us have agreed that we'll have a much better time getting tickets and flogging them for £50 odd each (maybe even more depending on how much i get offered) and then having a good old session in the pub with out profits. Far more enjoyable and i can watch it all on ITV whilst getting smashed. Happy days.

I don't really understand why so many Saints fans like this draw. All it does is provide a distraction from the absolutely vital league games we have coming up. I'll be keeping a close eye on our form over the next few weeks and over the last month we've been fantastic.

Lets hope for your sake ITV don't continue with their sh!t coverage and miss a few goals then.

Let's also hope (again for your sake) that saints don't keep up the recent 100% record so that next time we draw a game you can come back and said "told you so"

Come back and say 'i told you so'? Why the hell would i do that?! What an odd thing to say. This isn't the school playground mate. I couldn't give two ****s whether you agree or disagree with my opinion and i'm certainly not interested in telling anyone i'm right or their wrong. The beauty of football is that everyone has their own unique opinion. All i was saying was that players may be more focused on (and naturally so) the United game as opposed to some of the 'less glamorous' league fixtures that are coming up. I'm not saying that the players will delibrately pull out of challenges, put in less effort in training etc, but until the united game, the thought of playing against Man Utd in front of a packed house live on ITV will always be in the back of their minds. In previous years, when pushing for promotion, cup competitions and long runs involving games against big sides have proved to be a negative distraction. Let's just hope the players take it one game at a time starting with Oldham tonight.

For those not prepared to pay £30, what did you seriously think the price would be? It was never in a million years going to be as low as £20, and surely if you can afford something in the region of £25, stretching the budget by another £5 would be worth it to actually be at the match and soak in the atmosphere! All IMHO, of course..

To me, what you said seems like you have something against this United game due to past experience. Because of this it seemed you would kind of like us to stutter in the league to justify not wanting to go to the United game. 6-0 is a good way to put that to bed.

I can't believe some of our regular support is choosing to miss this one. Theymoan about plastic fans turning up but wont turn out themselves! I have just realised that i am away for this game and am absolutley gutted - I wouldn't dream of missing it through choice. OK - if money is an issuse but surely for an extra £10.00, playing Man U, great atmosphere, full house and who knows, maybe a win, i just don't understand the mentality!

I presume you weren't there last time Utd came down then? the atmosphere was like Highbury used to be thanks to the local utd fans and saints plastics. I know that if i choose the right pub it'l be crammed with excited saints fans, we'll get replays and analysis of the game and can spend £30 on drink before we've spent the same as a match ticket. Besides that £30 is alot of money and think of how much a season ticket and all the previous cup games this season adds up to! And as for those of us not fortunate enough to have season tickets, the Utd game is being linked to the Carlisle game, so those people will end up spending £50+

I'll be giving this one a miss too, atmosphere was **** last time, sat next to some c*nty, quite clearly only there to see united c*nt fans. Much rather be in the pub, and thats not a bad idea either, buying the ticket then selling on for a profit. Think i'll be joining you in that idea.

make sure you sell your ticket to a Saints fan .. with the cup allocation being bigger for away sides the fewer plastic mancs we have inside the better!! .. the atmosphere problem (particularly for the big games) is discussed in the Chapel Kop thread

Macey - I was there last time and other times before that. I was at the Cup Final in 1976. Each to their own but I have never chosen to watch a home game on the tv instead of being at the ground. You can't complain about part-time (plastics) being there if you don't go yourself. Why not link it to the Carlisle game? It's all good revenue for the club and will help us to keep our exciting squad of players rather than having to sell as we have previously done so. As for buying a ticket for a game you know you are not going to attend just so that you can sell it on for a profit, shame on you.

I've not met a single Saints fan who is looking forward to it. Boring tie.

I'll be at the match yelling my head off. I have excellent memories of games against Manure, (mostly at the Dell admittedly, 6-3 and 3-1 stand out) and the last two have been a bit sh!t. But we were on the way down then, and it was men against boys last time.

I think we will give them a good game this time, so really looking forward to it. I also think the 5.15 start will pump up the atmosphere.

I couldn't give a to$$ about all this plastic fan ******, but some people who post post about them, then choose to stay away and watch on TV, should realise how contradictory they are.

so then those who wont pay £30 but will sit in Yates or some other hole having prob 5 pints during the 30mins before kick off and half hour after at a cost of around £15 plus a couple of bob in the fruity and hey presto you have saved a fortune having not gone to support the club yoou supposidly love?? Some of you crack me up especially you, born in the eighties selling for £20+ profit, however come the Monday should we win I bet you go into work/pub etc saying how yoou had such a great day with the self emptiness you never went. Club is better off without half you lot anyway and you call the Mancs Plastic for going!?!?!?!?

Come one you guys! I think the fact that having attended every home game, bar one this season gives me the right to feel aggrieved about the 'fans' for whom this will be their first match of the season, unless they've been in a coma for the last 5 months. I'm all for linking the game to another, my point clearly is that £30 and £50 is alot of money, and you can't blame people for not having it to spend especially as they can watch it at home or down a pub for free. I know who's in my seat for this match and they will definitely be adding to the atmosphere and this is their 5th match of the season which is pretty impressive for someone who has to work weekends.

My conscience is clear, i'm going to have as good a time, and a cheaper day than anyone in the stadium! Cant argue with that :p

My point exactly. Season ticket holder since I can remember and i start getting abuse for not wanting to go to a match that will be full of annoying c*nty fans asking "whose number 7?" etc, just so people on an internet forum wont make me feel guilty. I'll be supporting them, just in an atmosphere which will be much better - the pub.

Hilarious mate! Laughed through all of that rant. I can't believe you're getting so worked up over the personal decision of a few saints fans not to go to (in all reality) a meaningless FA Cup fixture. But that's not the reason i'm not going. Funnily enough it will be the first cup game i've missed this season. But here is a few points as to why i've decided not to go...

1) The home end WILL have plenty of United fans there. I'm not proud to admit it, but this really REALLY winds me up. Last time i had 3 sarcastic ****s sat behind me making comments every 5 minutes as i began to get more and more wound up. I couldn't cope with it.

2) The atmosphere. The way it transpired last time we played them (with the Northam going to Utd), you had families, utd fans and occassional saints fans all mixed in with the regulars. This stopped me doing a number of things. Firstly, i like to stand. Secondly, when i shout i don't like being looked at like i'm some kind of alien. This also includes foul language. It makes me feel better to scream abuse at Rooney, Giggs, Mike Rielly etc, and i just don't feel comfortable doing that in front of children.

3) Man Utd. I utterly despise everything about them.

4) Corruption. The refs will do everything in their power to put United through. Penalties, red cards, disallowing goals, you name it. I'm already bracing myself for another 'controversial afternoon at St Mary's'. You can call me a conspiracy theorist all you like, but i just don't want to be there to witness that kind of heartache yet again.

There are other reasons, i just can't be bothered to note them. Now, in my local, i'll be able to drink and enjoy my Saturday regardless of the result with all my mates. I will be able to swear at the TV if i don't like something (which will make me feel better). If someone behind me is annoying me, i can simply move to the other side of the bar. Plus i will also not feel obliged to stay till the end of the game to justify the 30 quid ticket price, like i did last time which only made me feel even more miserable.

Promotion is my main aim this season. But that's not to say it won't be absolutely unbelievably amazing if we did manage to beat United. I would genuinely love it. I just don't truly believe it can happen (and that has nothing to do with how i think we'll play, but more to do with the referee). And besides, i'd rather go to a real game of football at St James park against Exeter City the following Tuesday - for me, that is what real football is all about nowadays.

Other than that, i certainly don't feel the need to justify how passionately i feel about saints to you.

I won't lie will be my 5th game this season, I'm a part time fan except when I had a season ticket I normally make 10 home 1 away as I work sat play Sunday's so don't get a chance that often I wanted to go the CAFC game anyway so I appreciate regulars not turning up means I'm more likely to get a ticket.

You've done a good job capturing your passion (to slightly nutty levels, actually :) ), I just don't get the logic of "spending my money in the pub instead means I won't care about the result".

I know there are fans out there who only attend bigger games etc but surely there is really no such thing as a 'plastic Saints fan' on the basis that any one fitting that kind of profile wouldn't choose to support Saints but would be one of the many scumbags walking around in Man Utd/Chelsea shirts etc???

For those on here not going to match, you are pretty much saying there is no point at all in Saints even entering the Fa cup. Apparently you don't want to see a big team like Man utd so would you be flocking to the game if we'd drawn Crawley? Doubtful.

So who would you watch Saints play in the 4th round of the cup?
