sfc1971 Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 If it`s for 10 Mill. 10 Mill is an offer we would be silly to knock back for a 17yr old boy with half a season of league one under his belt, who`s to say he has what it takes to rip up the prem. If we were to gain a promotion this season that money could be used to finance a serious push for back to back promotions and we could be back into the big time by 2012/13 season earning the club approx 70 Mill. To me it`s a no brainer. Thoughts please. I have donned my tin helmet

ralph_wiggum Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 Fair enough, as long as the 10mil was put back into the team when we get into the championship!
Colinjb Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 One of the worst things we could do is advertise to rival teams (who our targets are more then likely playing for) that we have 10 million to spend. Their prices would instantly treble.
Gingeletiss Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 Wrong on so many levels, serious question, are you a younger person yourself?, because your view that he should go, is so wrong IMO. AOC is the future, and I 'd like to see him, and the likes of him, at St Marys, for many years to come.
Saint Charlie Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 Sorry, but he will clearly make a great Premiership and Intl player in the future. Just because he hasn't played many games means nothing. In fact playing so well at 17 is surely an indication that he is likely to make it at a higher level. The 10m we would get wouldn't buy any players nearly as good as he will be in 2 years time. We should hang on to him until we have to. Of our recent goals he has been involved in most of them and would be a HUGE dent to our promotion chances this season to let him go now. Eventually sure, but not now. david in sweden Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 I think you'll need more than a tin helmet..why not dig a hole in the ground? IF.. this deal were anywhere near "on" then according to the gossip it would be £5 mill.up front and the rest based on performances. Judging by the Walcott scenario, it'll be at least 2-3 years bfore he's a regular in the Arsenal side and probably another 2 years beyond that before he reached the requisite caps for England. Chances are - even - if he stays injury-free we wouldn't see more than another 1-2 mill. in the next 3 years. If that sounds a lot to you ...it is the salary for two players on 10K (not a lot in CCC) ..for ONE YEAR ! If Arsenal do that deal - then we've screwed ourselves ..AGAIN ! You don't really want my opinion - do you ? Think you ought to reply before the MODS close this one down.
braveheart1983 Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 No! What's the point in doing this if we're trying to build a team for the future on the model Cortese has described....I think we should do all we can to keep AOC. 10 Mill is a lot of money....but the damage and the message it sends out to the players at SFC is far more damaging in the long term....it basically says "we'll sell out if we're offered enough" Now if the player chooses to want to leave....then its a different position....but for too long we watch our best young players succeed elsewhere and usually keep their worth or increase....can't we for a change have the forsight to believe in the future & that it'll pay ourselves back by not selling in the medium term. Wade Garrett Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 I have changed my mind on this one. Yes £10million is astronomical, but now we have a bit of cash why don't we try to keep our young starlets and build the team around them. Imagine where we could be now if we were able to have kept Bale and Walcott.
Nexstar Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 He has started 16 league games for us, that £625,000 per game. There is no way we'll get £10m for him this month.
.comsaint Posted 17 January, 2011 Share Posted 17 January, 2011 Yeah. Let's sell the promising future of the club whilst scrapping hard to get out of this godforsaken division cos we don't really need them at this moment in time . . .
