OttawaSaint Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Lot of extreme reactions on this board. - negative, we are ****ed brigade, Adkins/Cortese/Doris tea lady OUT!!! - positive, no problems, we got this sown up, we just have to beat team *insert name here* and we'll walk that match. Is there anyone out there like me, I HOPE we will win, I won't come out and say, "no problem, we'll win easy", but I won't throw a tantrum if we go 1-0 down or lose. Maybe Saints have damaged me to such an extreme that I can't invest any confidence or emotion in them anymore. As the season progresses I find myself thinking, "love it if we could get that 2nd spot, but dreading the playoffs, but if we don't go up then so be it, Saints'll still be there, football will be football, no use getting bent out of shape about something I can't even control, I have bigger more important things to occupy my waking thoughts with". Barry the Badger Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Sort yourself out man. Either find an extreme position one way or the other or get the hell off the forum. ;-) For what its worth I think there are plenty who are neither completely assured that everything will be ok, or convinced that we are doomed. I generally lean slightly towards the optimistic side, but I do find that as soon as I start trying to argue against the extreme pessimists I come across as much more optimistic and assured about Saints than I actually am. CWD Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 I am certainly one of the more optimistic posters, but I still feel I have every right to be grumpy when we lose.
paris Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 You do realise that if we won the Champions league some would still moan ....
Saint-Fred Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 "love it if we could get that 2nd spot, but dreading the playoffs," Would be great to win the play off final though wouldn't it? If you could guarentee winning them everyone would rather go up via the play offs than 2nd place surely? Relax- the fixation with having to have everthing now and winning today is what spoils the enjoyment- occasionally you lose so what? We had 26 years where more often than not we dodged the bullet of relegation so it's not all been bad as a Saint supporter..enjoy the ride and the play offs if thats where we end up! PhilippineSaint Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Can you imagine the mess they'd make of the ticket arrangememnts FFS. Would have to live in an SO1 postcode and been to 58 matches that season to get into the the lucky dip draw for the remaining 12 tickets after the freeloaders had theirs. The9 Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Count me in the middle somewhere too : glad when we win, annoyed when we lose, not agreeing to sacking any managers until they've tangibly done stupid things on a repeated basis or got us relegated, happy to occasionally go to Hartlepool but Good God not twice in two seasons, that kind of thing... Ian the Red Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 ....love it if we could get that 2nd spot, but dreading the playoffs.... with you with this comment, but I DO believe we are going to win every game!! Its the way I always played football, no point turning unless you believe you can win and I do think Saints ought to win the majority of their remaing fixtures. I'd take 12 wins 2 draws and a defeat. S-Clarke Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 I'd say I'm in the middle somewhere too. I was very frustrated after our draw against Hartlepool and the result the other night - It's made our task much harder, but I still believe we can do it. I didn't expect this league to be the walk in the park some were expecting, as I remember the trouble that Forest and Leeds had in getting out of this league. The pressure and expectation on us from day 1 was massive and it's only going to get worse as the season goes on. I think we have the players, the personalities and the leaders - maybe not as vocal as other teams, but this club always wins when it is do or die, we always manage to have storming runs at the end of a season....lets hope it's the same this year, a last day promotion on a summers day at home is what it's all about. I'm sure we'll get there in the end.
The9 Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Oh, and I'm going to a wedding on May 29th, so we'd bloody BETTER get automatic...
Frank's cousin Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 NOt quite sure why its so bad to be positive... personally i thought thats what supporting a football club was all about - belief in being able to win any game even when the odds are stacked against you. Thats not the same as assuming its easy, or that we should and will crush certain sides, but for whats fundementally part of bein a fan. Most fans will have recognised at the start of the season that despite our favourites tag, despite the relative luxury of having reasonable investment and a strong squad, this is still a very tough division to get out of as Forest and Leeds demonstrated... when 'bigger' clubs come down, sides often raise their game and despite all our advantages it was never going to be easy despite teh 'walk this league' mantra from some. But believing we can do it, and belief in the side is all to do with a positive mental attitude and that in Sport as in any walk of life is only a good thing ... it ceratinly cant do any harm, whereas negativity, and panic merely creates misery and can lead to a self fullfilling profercy... um pahars Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Definitely somewhere in the middle for me. Certainly don't think we will win every game (but probably always hope we will!!!!), probably due to not believing we have any divine right to win every game or definitely go up. Similarly, I don't get all wrist slitty when we lose (at Peterborough away, we were giggling when their 4th went in as it was just so Saints!!!!). I don't have any problems having to ply our trade in the Third tier and fully accept football is a meritocracy. I just want honest performances from an honest Club. However, I do reserve the right to jump around the room/terrace/stands when we murder someone, or kick the cat/girlfriend/seat in front when we fail miserably and call it as I see it either way. John B Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 I think I am neither positive or negative as I think I am pragmatic I will not be upset if we fail to get promoted but will of course be happy if we do so. We still have a chance of automatic promotion which of course is less likely after the midweek defeat Although we have not been playing that well recently improvement to form maybe just around the corner but the problem I feel we have is that no one player is consistently very good at the moment. But the other teams involved in the Promotion race apart from Brighton are not doing that well I think that B'Mouth have got 12 points in the last six games us Huddersfield and Peterborough have 11 I maybe wrong but if that is the case finishing second is not out of the question If we get injuries and suspensions it will be difficult to get promoted automaticall but that is football At the moment I cannot see us not being in the top six by the end of the season whether that is positive or realistic I dont know The bookies have us 1/12 to be in the top six
