Brighton

It won't make any difference. I'd have thought it will be all about preserving our unbeaten home record from that point on - or indeed securing the Championship on that very day.

Of course, it could all be very different a couple of weeks later when Huddersfield come to Withdean...

If they are promoted by the time we play them, will this work in our favour or against us in terms of getting 3 points from the game?

Probably not no.

They might even remember our game against Spurs decades ago when neither team made any effort whatsoever and both teams got promoted at the expense of Brighton.

Yes I was there hoping for a win to make us Champions all I saw was a very boring draw should have played cricket instead as it was the first game of the season

Strange to think that I did not have to buy a ticket before the game just turned up and watched it under the West Stand

The current players wouldn't give a flying one about something that happened before most of them were even born. Their fans might make a big deal about it (which I suspect is where all this fake rivalry ******** has come from), but the players will be trying to win the game because they're top of the table and unbeaten at home and want to keep it that way.

But by that reasoning none of our players should care about a game with Pompey either and yet the build up to last year's cup game was massive, the club remembered, the fans remembered and the players were made to remember whether they gave a toss or not.

Little things like that never go away in football,it's part of the culture.

I'd argue that a long-standing and well-known local rivalry is somewhat different to a one-off event 34 years ago that many fans of both clubs probably aren't even aware of.

and because there is a very good chance given current form that they could win the title that day.

...and I've seen teams buckle under expectation or not perform having done the hard part of obtaining a promotion place.

It'll be an interesting game and I'm glad we play them at this time.

EDIT: Even if they are that far ahead that title is won, teams don't always perform having done the job.

I've also seen teams keep up the form and run away with the title. Who knows.

IMO our game against them will probably be the one where they need to "not lose" in order to be champions (They will only have 3 games after ours and we will have 4 games = 12pts max).

? Does anyone know how many games a player has to play in order to get a Medal at the end of the season. A few years ago it was 10 (I think) and a side who had already won the league played a few fringe players for the last 2 or 3 games to try to get them up to the limit. I am therefore more concerned about their final home game against Huddersfield where they might play a weaken side.

And you dont think the fans and club will make the history known to the current crop of players ?

I would be very surprised if events that happened years and years ago will have any bearing on what transpires when we play each other...At worst the players should just treat it as just another local derby like when we play Bournemouth or Pompey, nothing more than that. I would like to think we would strive to keep the unbeaten home run going but we could have promotion wrapped up 11 days prior to our meeting and Gus has hinted that we wants to start trying out players from the development squad...We shall see...

Haven't touched a drop since breakfast mate.

I so want to go to Brighton, I'm tempted to book a room now, just in case I get lucky.

Btw If we don't get to share a barstool before the end of the season shall we make a date for post forum match? I was thinking of Kuti's and then Dock Gate 5

You are posting on a rival League One club's messageboard, given yourself the username of BHA, only posting about Brighton and have a picture of the Amex Stadium as your avatar. I think you do support Brighton really! :p :D
