NickG Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Norwich have just been promoted into the premiership with the momentum gained from an amazing 2nd half season in league 1. That 2nd half season gained them 50 points. If we win our last game we will have 52 points from the 2nd half season. We have, I think, fairly comparable set-ups, fan base and managers. We may have more money??
saints-cris Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 No reason why we cant.. for the first time in 2 seasons we'll probably have a good chance of a good start to the season as well
Chez Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 lets hope so, but bear in mind 27 players have changed since they went up, so an improvement in quality throughout the squad may well be needed no matter how much we like our own players.

S-Clarke Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 did they change their squad that much? Didn't realise. They have signed quite a few. Ruddy Ward Edwards Crofts Jackson Surman Lansbury Fox Wilberham Tierney Pacheco quite a few additions!!
NickG Posted 2 May, 2011 Author Share Posted 2 May, 2011 few of those hardly played a part in their season, and some others not the experiences / big names that are often quoted as being needed to take the step up
vindaloo Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 no need to think we need to go up in one. lets secure ourselves for a season then worry about going up. calm yourself down

Matthew Le God Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 Wouldn't want to. They'll never survive next season! This always strikes me as a bizarre piece of logic when fans don't want their team to get promoted to the Premier League. Even if Saints did get immediately relegated again, they would be able to use the £48 million worth of parachute payments, along with the money earnt in the Premier League to strengthen for another go at it. Blackpool for example if they come down this season, will be in a far stronger position than if they hadn't gone up in the first place. In any case I don't see why you think Saints would struggle, Cortese has stated the finances are in place for Saints to eventually compete in the top half of the Premier League. CWD Posted 2 May, 2011 Share Posted 2 May, 2011 A club of our size, infrastructure and finance should really be aiming for at least a top 6 finish in my opinion. Next season will be well fun

AussieDog Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 Anyone know when the 2012 season starts? I'm coming over for the Olympics in August 2012 and might need to extend my stay in order for me to see our first game back in the Premiership! lol

forever a red and white Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 They have added well plus they were a better team than we are. I also think the standard of the Championship was slighlty poor this season compared to others. In addition it is a bit a lottery who comes down from the Prem, there could be three very strong additions from there to the league this season;. I would be happy with survival next season and consolidation. Both Pardew and Adkins have repeated that signings made in the past were for getting out of League One and being in the NPC, so wouldn't expect a great deal of transfer activity, with money being put into other areas of the club e.g. Training ground etc
NickG Posted 3 May, 2011 Author Share Posted 3 May, 2011 haven't added names as big as those at the top of the wish list on this forum! not convinced they were better than us either.

Golden Balls Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 I honestly dont think we have to add a great deal to be in with a chance. We have a strong team spirit by the looks of it and they all have a winning mentality. I think we'll need to add a striker, CM and a bit more to the bench. Maybe a Jaidi style CB whos a bit younger. Other than that, I think we'll be fine. Especially if Connolly can stay fit. He is a different class.

Daren W Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 Point is that all three of last years promoted teams have done well in the Championship. Millwall, Leeds and Norwich have all been up there and that shows the real strength of this league. But for an end of season hiccup Leeds would have been in the playoffs and Millwall were there or thereabouts all season... We have money, we have ambition and are already, I'd say, a good mid table Championship side... A few smart additions and this team is more than able of hitting the playoffs... Winning's a good habit to get into and this team is full of winners...

We will be competitive without additions - Fortunately I beleive our Chairman wants to drive us forward at pace and if that means additional strength in depth, that is what he will sanction. doddisalegend Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 I think we need to add some pace to the team for the championship, other than Oxo and Forte (who if this season is anything to go buy is an impact player from the bench rather than a starter) we're a bit on the slow side as a team. Other than that I think we can compete with what we have, promoted with the same team I'm not so sure.
paulwantsapint Posted 3 May, 2011 Share Posted 3 May, 2011 to use an adkins style idea aim for 1st if we miss out by a couple of points still get 2nd or play offs , aim for mid table if we miss out by a couple of points relegation battle

At the moment my goal for Saints next season is to win the playoffs, but who knows whether we've got some signings lined up, or the money to attract them ? One thing I do know is that the current Norwich squad look relegation threatened next season, but that they're still going to be better off than the Play-Off winners.
