Have saints ever played football on a new years eve before?

Why is it not 28th,29th,30th ?

OF course it's only fans who get drunk at Christmas time.

Footballers ..being well known for their sobriety do not inbibe alcoholic beverages during the Christmas / New Year period, are

allowed to celebrate Christmas with their families.

If they survive Boxing Day fixtures without injuries - if not - then they hopefully recover for the New Year.

I've just had a look at Soccerbase :

Cardiff (away) on Dec 31 2005 (lost 2-1).

Man U (home) on Dec 31 1994 (drew 2-2).

Given that New Year's Day is a Bank Holiday and there's usually a fixture then, it's not surprising that NYE matches are fairly rare - but then you'd only expect a match on a particular date to come around every 6 years anyway (with leap years) so three times in 18 years including this season coming is pretty much exactly in line with the average. Though that does suppose only one match a week, and doesn't include summer dates, obviously.

I must have gone to it, I only lived 12 miles from Ninian Park at the time and it was my last NYE up there before I moved back to Southampton. I can't remember ANYTHING about it other than the sign in the toilet which said "please adjust your dress".

The scheduled visit of Bristol City on New Year's Eve has also been changed. Keith Millen will be bringing his side

to St Mary's a day earlier, with the fixture now taking place on Friday 30th December with a 7.45pm kick off.
