What a load of nonsense answers they were, baciscally their will be no change in system and we've still got no plan B.

As for the quote about the system and Man Utd etc play the same way, well they've got the players and are not playing in the Championship.

do think too much is made of this plan B stuff. Don't mean this as a defence of Jan as clearly team are not doing well enough but when we played poorly but 4-4-2 we didn't moan about plan B, we moaned that players were not good enough, not doing their jobs, not motivated etc -think those are the real issues not 4-4-2 v 4-2-3-1 or whatever

Firstly, Man U and Chelsea play nothing like the same system we do.

Secondly, he has just admitted that it is a crock of **** anyway without proper wingers and has implied that Holmes, Dyer and Smith are the only people likely to do that job.... makes you wonder why we've been playing it recently then.

its a bit unbelievable that the youngsters have only been taught one way to play? and frankly i dont believe it.most youngsters play in a traditional 4-4-2 formation from an early age so why has the academy all of a sudden in the last few years started to play/train differently? it just doesnt sit right im afraid.

southampton have always played a traditional 4-4-2 apart from the odd occasion, the youngsters have been here a lot longer than the dutch duo so to say they have been brought up to play the jp way is ******.

It seems to me you are accusing the club of telling some little white lies

Next you'll be claiming Rupert is to burn all the books so he can re-write history :D

Maybe that's where we've been going wrong all these years, in that the Academy has been churning out 4-3-3, interchangeable, and fluid players, and we've been trying to fit them into 4-4-2 first teams:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Never bought this rubbish when it was first spouted, and certainly don't buy it now.

Decent players should be able to slot into a number of different formations, otherwise we're saying that any players brought up on a 4-4-2 system can never play for Chelsea or Liverpoool.

Add to that we do not play 4-3-3 as Chelsea do like they imply. Chelsea play this

---------------------Goalkeeper---------------------

Left Back-----Center Back---Center Back----Right Back

--------------------------------------------------------

-----Left Wing ------Centre Midfield------------Right Wing

/\ /\

| |

| |

Left Forward------Center Forward---------Right Forward

As you can see their forwards drop into the wings when the wings move into centre meaning they always have 3 options. Either wing or down centre.

Where as we play like this

---------------------Goalkeeper---------------------

Left Back-----Center Back---Center Back----Right Back

--------------------------------------------------------

-------Centre Midfield---Centre Midfield---Centre Midfield-----

---Left Wing--------------------------------------Right Wing---

------------------------Centre Forward-------------------------

Difference being our wingers come back to our box to try and get the ball then try and run with it to the flanks. Holmes and Lallana showed just how un-effective that is. Their only option is to then hit and hope it gets to the only forward. Which it doesnt. So i do find it rather iritating that they persist with this defence of their system. It is a 4-3-3 by picture but that does not make it an attacking tactic as they suggest.

Either way i think they look even more out of depth in this interview and the PR men are having to run spin as much as they can. Jan says we play like Chelsea and we use 3 up front because we dont know how to play any other way, then Wotte says we play 1 up front but you could say we play 3 up front... Sound clueless to me.

Also love the "we play better against better teams". They really need to wake up and see nearly 21 teams are better then us and a fluke win at Reading does not make us play great against "the better teams".

---------------------CB-----------------------

-----------------------------------------------LB

-RB-----------------------------------------------

-------------------CM CM------------------------

--------------------------------------------CF

---------IR------ITH

-------------------------------------------------------------------LW

"How are we going to handle Manchester United?

MW: The better an opponent plays the better we seem to play, because they give away space."

These guys really are clueless - the Utd game is gonna be a slaughter.

I had to laugh when I read that part. If they aren't doing any sort of special planning to deal with Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez etc then we will be in massive trouble.

You seem to have selective memory issues. We used to moan like feck when Burley was in charge playing 4-4-2 and with no Plan B, and quite rightly. Like Burley, Jan is a one-trick pony, the sign of a poor coach, unable to effectively change tactics either during a game, or to suit the opponents style of play, or to play differently home and away.

In any case its not just that there is no Plan B with JP, its also that the players are not good enough, at least in the case of McG, and cannot play the system that JP insists on playing. I LOL'd at JP's quotes on the OS when he says this is what the youngsters were brought up to play. That is absolute ****** Jan, only 4 of our regular starters have ever played in the Academy, and I don't recall George Prost employing the same tactics as JP, or maybe he did and he was just more effective and getting his ideas over to the kids, but thats what happens when you employ a 3rd rate Dutch amateur coach.

That fecking OS gets more and more depressing every week.

The nonsense that is spouted on there beggars belief. I know that it is essentially a propaganda tool for Southampton Football Club but some the recent outpouring coupled with the complete rubbish spoken by the head coach/tactical genius really has to read twice to check you're not reading something from a footballing version of 'The Onion'.

This is so depressing.

Do you think they really believe the stuff they write - especially our Dutch friends or are they just having a laugh at our expense?
