Mr X Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Silly question I know but if jan was such a sucess in holland why didn't he bring some of his players over? surely they would have been good enough and also they would be cheap like Jan and we know how Lowe likes cheap

ericofarabia Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Unfortunately the standard at the level of football he was coaching at in CloggyLand was probably about par with Eastleigh Reserves
scott_saints Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Probably because the standard of players he was coaching over there were of a similar to level to Eastleigh players. EDIT- It seems someone agrees with me!!
Mole Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Jan is just the coach. He's admitted not even seeing our signings play before Lowe signs them so he has no input in transfers. I believe SFC is run with an "old school tie" selectors philospy (like the England cricket team) with Lowe and Wotte deciding who they want to sign and who they want to be picked for the team. Jan just does as he's told like the yes man he is.

scott_saints Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Tbf though, I did expect to see us sign a few Dutch young'uns. Especially after meeting a Ajax youth player (Justin Sporkslede) on holiday in the Summer. Even he thought that JP would sign a few young players from over there! Weston Saint Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 I was told by someone at the Notts Forest game that two dutch players were training with the club. It was not from my usual sources but he also told me that we were about to sign Moleneaux (he assumed on loan) who was also training. He got that one right (except it was a permenant signing) so maybe he right with the Dutch pair. Not heard anything further from my other sources on the subject though. Chez Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Exactly is seems that JP was managing at a level equivalent of Nick Homes at Salisbury but if Nick became manager tomorrow I'd expect him to have at least one or two non league targets that he thought could do a job for us. Saint In Exile Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 he was managing in Holland, when would he have got the chance to see Wotton and Holmes? He may very well have not seen them... Wotton was, however, signed while Pearson was still our manager and I've not seen any comment attributable to JP admitting he hadn't seen Holmes. Wotton was, however, signed while Pearson was still our manager and I've not seen any comment attributable to JP admitting he hadn't seen Holmes. Wotton was signed a couple of weeks after Jan had been unveiled as Head Coach. As for Holmes, JP actually claimed somewhere that he had seen him (how and where, I haven't a clue?). But then there's also those players who re-signed contracts such as Dyer & Gillett (maybe even McGoldrick) and you have to ask just how involved is Jan in these decisions, or perhaps more importantly who else is involved??? I just can't help but think that Jan is not his own man with regards transfer targets and keeping players on.

Did he go into managment as soon as his playing days were over? If so at his age you would have thought he would have had plenty of managment experiance, Or was he a tulip seller outside Amsterdamn Central Station?
