"The positive is that the boys never gave up and fought till the end. That was what they had to do and next week they start again and fight to stay in the league."

Think he was watching a different game to the rest of us.

No, he is doing his best to preserve what little morale is left in his young team. IMO the team is shattered, we are on the verge of going bankrupt and we have no option but to trudge warily on this road right to the end.

Yes it is frustrating, yes we should never have got to this position. But we are where we are, and in the next few weeks we are all going to have to stand together, united, as the storm hits us and batters us.

SFC is going to need support like it has never needed it before. I will support SFC not Rupert, I will support SFC because of its proud past and traditions. We may well be battered and bruised, but together we will survive and together SFC will rise from the ashes !

Don't even bother reading it anymore.......the same old rambling bull****.

Doncaster in a couple of weeks time should be interesting, particularly if we lose away to Barnsley.

Oh, I only noticed today that we're away to Billy Davis's (how we could do with him now) Notts Forest on the last day of the season..........hope our fate is decided by then coz I don't fancy our chances there.

i thought skacel gave up long before the end.

I thought Skacel was excellent - he did give up (as did the nippas to be fair) on 0-3 - and clearly Fergie's plan was to attack down the left so he had less to do...

but for me one of our best players by a country mile.

I thought Skacel was in my top three as well. . . . . with fourth place a long, long way behind.

Think both sides looked as if they thought three nil was enough and stopped there.

Oh, yeah, me too, to be honest, although I had a pleasant flicker of 'actually, it might just work' directly after we beat Brum at home. We've prevaricated for about four games too many already, and have lost a big opportunity in letting Davies go to Forest. Rupert is fiddling while Saints burn.

At least Wotte has predigree - cannot understand why the Feyenord DoF is sitting below a man who effectively managed at Blue Sq level?

Ive never understood that either. When they were both appointed I assumed Wotte would be the head guy. Imagine my surprise.....

Actually he was sitting above him....

There was a quick clip of him telling his boss what was happening on the pitch, right after the clip of LM & LC sitting in the roof looking gruntled.

Maybe we should do some research into his past before we start saying he has some pedigree!!!!!!!

We know what happened the last time we took it on face value with regards a potential Dutch Coach!!!!!!!!

This was from a Feyenoord Blog:

After Van Marwijk went, most fans asked for Martin Jol (who was keen to come). But the club management thought Jol looked “too fat” to manage a top club (true story). And instead chose Gullit. Because Gullit is (was) cool, glib, popular, etc…

Someone appointed former youth player Mark Wotte as technical director. Why? Nobody knows. Wotte was a mediocre coach at mediocre clubs. Didn’t have any management experience at all. Still, he was in charge of building a new Feyenoord, with Ruud Gullit.

I don’t know how many players came from how many different countries, but at the end of the day, Wotte/Gullit failed. Miserably. Ebi Smolarek was told to leave (he went to Borussia Dortmund where he had a sensational season), Buffel was told to leave (he became a sensation at Glasgow Rangers) and many no-names came.

I think a lot of us felt rather that way. I certainly did. A temporary triumph of hope over expectation I guess.

I think the players at that time had belief, confidence and energy.

As time has gone on, this has drained away.

Yes, looks very much that way. I guess that being constantly out-muscled and bullied out of games - and I've seen a few matches when that's been very much the case - takes its toll.

Poortvliet has turned Saints into a team loved by most others. They entertain the supporters of every club with our 'passing', and then give them the 3 points as well!!!

To most Championship teams who dont follow us week in week out, they all think we should be higher up... but none of them have watched long enough to realise, we dont score goals!!! we have to own goals!!! I can't believe Poortvliet hasnt spotted this and at least changed tactics to give us more of a chance of doing what you need to do in a game of football. PUTTING IT IN THE NET.

Jan out, Iain Dowie Geraint Williams or Mark Hughes (i know impossible but we can dream) in!!!

Alex Ferguson's post match comments are more telling IMHO....

"They're a very young side so you'd expect us to win. You don't want to humilate them because they have a tough programme ahead to survive in the championship".

To me that reads that he actually instructed his players (overtly or otherwise) to take it easy on us.

Puts a slighty different angle on 'only' losing 3 nil....

Rupert and his clueless dutch clowns are ensuring they are humiliated.

Having not seen any game, this is by no way meant to defend JP, his tactics or man management skills, but a thought occurred to me: to what extent was he aware of what he was in for? I mean, we he was hired he might have been told he'd have to work on a tight budget, but with a squad comprising a relative mix of experienced players and homegrown youngsters, which per se is not a totally bad idea and he might have developed an idea of how he wanted the side to play. Instead, most of the experienced players have been loaned out/sold (not mentioning the Killer case) and even more nippers have been brought in, which is a totally different basis to work on and he now finds himself in a situation where he has to defend and try to protect unexperienced and, from what I read on here, largely un-CCC-worthy boys probably incapable as yet to put into practice what he initially had in mind. Many a manager would feel uncomfortable with this, I think. So once again I'm not discussing his (in)abilities or the fact he's clueless and out his depth, but I wonder to what extent he was fully and honestly informed about the situation he would have to face and the squad he'd have to make do with. Which brings us back to arrogant Rupert "Know-it-all" Lowe and the way he is orchestrating the downfall of Southampton Football Club with an ego probably as inflated as any pornstar tits.

That JP and his players lack experience at this level is there for all to see, they make unbelievable mistakes but in the end the buck has to stop with Lowe.

I'm sure it's what most of us fully expected, it's exactly what I expected.

United had no axe to grind, we are nothing to them, they just wanted the job to be done and then to get out. 3-0 was a perfect score - give us a good thumping without totally humiliating us. Men vs boys I'm afraid.

I don't blame the players or even the manager as they are trying, albeit ineffectively. No, the neutering of a once competitive SFC lies firmly at the feet of Lowe and his doomed vision.

As for JPs views, they made me squirm. The red card was totally justified as it was potentially a leg breaking challenge. As for the pen I thought it was debateable. However if you are stupid enough to raise your arm in the penalty area when the ball hits you then you are asking for trouble, hopefully a lesson learnt.

Oh well, back to the championship we go.

It has been a shambles from the pre season.

Lowe is the problem from the first day he obtained his shares for nothing. Is that clever or Askham and his Lavender Hill Mob with the safe keys?

As far as JP goes, I am really without caring anymore.

But for posters to suggest Wottey, God help us please. NO not you Rupert the real one who is going to help us soon, I hope.

Saints, what has Lowey done to us....Wildey plse behave and do the right thing , now...Please.

That is the best summary of Man Utd's game I have read anywhere - and it comes straight from Fergie. He is absolutely right. Berbatov couldnt have strolled around anymore than he did. I swear that Man Utd started upping the pace when Rooney came on as they were getting a bit chilly.

There is an important lesson for Saints fans here. We watch OUR team too much and fail to watch what the opposition are doing. I have watched teams in the CCC ease up against us for weeks once they thought they had us in the bag and the only team it backfired on was Preston. Watch the opposition.

We are being treated like the kids we are. We are a team for the taking of an easy 3 points in the CCC - let alone by Man Utd in the FA Cup.

I thought his reaction on Setatna was a bit embarrasing.

Blamed the ref all the way through.

Nice as he might be, he has to go. We can't defend, we can't score goals. What do we do?

Yet Kelvin Davies disagreed with JP over the handball! You cant make it up. The Capt saying one thing the coach another.

Man Utd went for our weak(er) side more, and Rudi had less to do, there were a couple of second half occasions however where he just stopped in his tracks as if to say "I'm really not that bothered" ...perhaps he was instructed to stay back more, but that seems unlikely with his attacking instincts, unless Jan has sussed by now that Rudi cant run for a whole game.

The OS 'mysteriously' omits this Poortvliet quote:

"Arsene Wenger has said United always get the 50-50 decisions and I agree. Alex stood up once to have a word and after that everything went their way"
