david in sweden Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 ...has apparently been on loan from Skonto Riga with DERBY since july, (according to a short piece in Team Talk) (but hardly played at all) and is being released by new manager Nigel Clough. Thinking back a few seasons the lad was a star player in our Academy ranks but was refused a visa to continue his stay in UK (and with Saints) -because of a controversial clause in Home Office rules that seem to apply only to US - ( but not with players who were going to join Man U or Arsenal.) Have no idea how he has progressed but if there is ANYONE surviving on the SMS staff who remembers this fella and can tip JP - he must be worth a look I recall they always said he did have a soft spot for Saints. Bakovnetski Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Good shout David. I can remember him playing in a reserves match sometime and he wasn't half bad. Mind you he may have been snorting cola for all we know since then.
bungle Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Presumably Rupert Lowe remembers him seeing as he spent so much time and effort trying to get him a work permit!
saint1977 Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Worth keeping an eye on even with Lupoli arriving, might not cost us much and could be a support option if Saga did go. Has he been getting regular reserve team starts at Derby? Fitness may be an issue otherwise.
It's There Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Often thought he was one we that slipped through the net, so to speak, and would like to see him given a trial, if nothing else. After all, a trial doesn't cost much
david in sweden Posted 15 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Presumably Rupert Lowe remembers him seeing as he spent so much time and effort trying to get him a work permit! Well I thought that but with so much having happened in the last couple of years, it might easily have been overlooked. As someone said later, Rupert Lowe tried a lot of ways to keep him, maybe someone should drop a word to RL....especially as he (RL) would have to OK any eventual signing, he might feel inclined to let JP know about Andrej's past. Jo T is back in Southampton, unemployed, keeping fit and hoping .. just hoping .. Saints would make a move to have him back.
eelpie Posted 16 January, 2009 Share Posted 16 January, 2009 One disadvantage is his height, only 1.72 metres (5ft 7.5inches). We do need taller forwards who don't get brushed aside by heavyweight defenders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrejs_Perepļotkins

We do need taller forwards who don't get brushed aside by heavyweight defenders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrejs_Perepļotkins Early career Perepļotkins joined FC Metalist Kharkiv at the age of 18, but over the next two years had spells with several different clubs, including Fili Moscow and R.S.C. Anderlecht, as well as spending time at Southampton's academy. Because of problems obtaining a work permit, Perepļotkins was unable to play for Southampton in front of a paying crowd, thus preventing him appearing for the first team. Shouldn't be a problem meeting this criteria in the not too distant future....?
trousers Posted 16 January, 2009 Share Posted 16 January, 2009 Was/is in the same Skonto FC squad as a certain Mr Pahars I see. Perhaps he's the Latvian Wayne Rooney?

Doctoroncall Posted 16 January, 2009 Share Posted 16 January, 2009 From some reports from Derby fans, they didn't think much of him. That was about a month ago.
Niemster Posted 16 January, 2009 Share Posted 16 January, 2009 I used to check the derby squads see if he was playing regularly for them but doesn't look like he has made an appearance for them since the early parts of the season, perhaps he is no good at this level? ottery st mary Posted 16 January, 2009 Share Posted 16 January, 2009 (edited) We can give Pereplotkins a trial and at the same time, Griffit, Lupoli and any other cast off. During said trial we throw in Gasmi, Forecast, Pulis, Smith etc and see if anyone is up to it....If not bin the lot...even those on long contracts like Pulis. Lets not waste any more money on long shot hopefuls....we need experience like one size and Saga....The experiments can go to the under 15/16s. Saints to beat Donny this week. AndyNorthernSaints Posted 16 January, 2009 Share Posted 16 January, 2009 He started for a very poor Derby team that lost to Saints early season. Think he was subbed. Don't think he has featured much since.
Jayram Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 He started for a very poor Derby team that lost to Saints early season. Think he was subbed. Don't think he has featured much since. Ploppy didn't really show enough to make the side for us after August. He always seemed a bit lightweight and tended to become more anonymous the longer a game went on. His club wanted him to play more games and that wasn't going to happen so he's back at Skonto Riga. I don't think he's the kind of player you need at this stage of the season.
