Funny thing is I had the most 'fun' supporting saints when we were in the lower leagues.

Once we blew the budget with Burley in charge when in the Championship it was really really horrible. Yes once we got rich (for the lower leagues) and starting smashing stuff it got fun, but no guarantees of that happening again.

Yes it got pretty bleak to say the least. When I hear about how great it was, there must have been lots of optimists who didn't use the forums back then. Either that or people with short memories. You have to ask yourself if you'd be alright supporting Eastleigh if we went bust, or look at Coventry to see what it would really be like following the embodiment of football purgatory, post-dodgy takeover.

At least we don't have to always hear people clamour to play untested youth 'young, hungry and guaranteed to improve' players any more, another cliche that was well and truly dismantled by Poortvliet and Wotte.

Probably more to do with one shit season getting relegated and Saints are fucked for a long time financially, with the prospect of wallowing around the lower leagues. Fun.

It is going to happen though regardless if the club isn’t sold. Gao I suspect wants too much money if it is still in the PL but gets wiped out with relegation. It’s then Russian roulette as to whether there is a decent buyer and MSD will have a major say with the administrator. Gao could bail out for say £20m and the new buyer has the loan in their business plan. Gao loses either a lot of money/assets or all of it basically.

And all that money is sitting in Kat's Swiss bank account. Her bank balance was the only thing that was taken to the next level. She really took Gao to the cleaners.

He’s a bellend, and that’s putting him in a positive light.

Why would anyone care what he thinks?

He's one of the only people in media who talks any sense at all about football these days. He's a breath of fresh air. Don't agree with everything he says, but he's the only person worth listening to about anything football related right now.

Are we not making it in the top flight?

Or is 'making it' being like the super-rich clubs, with their wealthy owners buying success? Is there any merit in being like that, with all links to local people and players being severed? There are many Manchester United fans still rueing the Glazers takeover; Everton have spent plenty. What have they won? Spurs have 'the world's greatest stadium', and have spent hundreds of millions. Where are they in the league? I just feel a little perspective is needed, and constantly wonder about the negativity shown by 'supporters' on here.

I don't think we are currently 'making' it in the premier league, we are merely existing in the premier league at the moment. We have deficiencies in the team and squad thay can only be solved over an extended time period, in which time more deficiencies will occur. There is no sense that we can mount a challenge on the top ten, we are a bottom half team fighting relegation and just one slip up away from the drop. We should have probably got rid of the manager, but will someone else do appreciatively better given our resources, probably not, so that would be a lot of money to waste for very little benefit.

I see the club is admirably trying to move forward in its current operational difficulties and looking for the new formula. But it's very difficult.

We have a good pedigree as a top flight club and we are a large enough city/region to support a top flight club, but the finances of football don't work for provincial clubs like ours. The top six boys don't care who the also rans are, the other slots in the premier league will always be filled. In fact weaker smaller prem teams helps them in Europe.

The other divisions are littered with clubs like ours who have been out of the top flight for a long time, that could easily be us in the future.

Wages and transfer fees are probably the problem, we are competing in a market place with teams who also operate in a larger market place.

What's going to happen if Goa can't sell,  will he want to recoup some money by other means, are the training facilities at risk? We've seen entrenched owners at other clubs at odds with their clubs best interests, could it happen here, why not.

Yes it's negative, but we are not in a good place at the moment. The one silver lining is that the club recognises it's position and is trying to respond. Here's hoping.

We certainly haven't tapped much of our potential. It's surprising how large our fanbase is worldwide. Obviously, we are not one of the big 6 put we are close to the top of the rest. In terms of size of fanbase, we are one of the clubs you'd expect to be at least mid-table in the top flight. Leicester's fanbase was certainly smaller than ours before they started winning trophies and it's winning trophies which produces sizeable increases in the size of fanbases.
