Every time Psycho Dennis starts an anecdote the sound of the host’s arsehole puckering up with apprehension at what he’s about to come out with is almost audible - “different times, different times”

The story about Lawrie McMenemy’s suit at Fratton was pretty grim.

Beatts comes across really well.

Good stuff as always

And a true story as well. Lawrie’s famous quip afterwards - ‘we’re in the 5th round, picked up £4.50 in change and two lb of bananas’.

The bananas are the most grim because all of those were lobbed at Danny Wallace and Reuben Agboola.

What’s hilarious is that you can pick up their fans chanting ‘scummers we’re coming’ on the old MOTD footage on YouTube as Armstrong is on the ball ready to cross and then Moran cuts it dead.

They were looking forward to an orgy of midweek vandalism in the enemy city - but denied that, they took it out on our own residents instead (a common theme with them) https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/news/41855/28th-january-1984-fratton-park

Listened to some of it on the way to work this morning, catch the rest later but did hear Steve Grant say he was stood near to where the flabby freak run up the pitch towards the Saints end and how the filming of it just cut off as someone launched a crutch at him. Just missed unfortunately.

Listened to the one from St Mary’s last week, guess it was due to microphones and more there but sounded like there was only about six people in the audience.

Mark Dennis on good form, loved his anecdote from his time at QPR after he’d wiped out Ardiles and Jim Smith ran across to berate (to put it mildly) the Argie left rolling around on the floor (around the time of the Falklands). 😁

Unfortunately the live podcast required a heavy amount of editing to sound remotely audible, so we lost the crowd noise as a result. We had about 100 people in the room on Thursday night.

Total Saints Podcast – Episode 356

Saints and Pompey share the spoils once again as the South Coast Derby ends 1–1 at Fratton Park.

This week, we look back on a bruising derby with plenty of flashpoints, missed chances, and familiar frustrations. Was it a fair result? Should Saints have done more after taking the lead? And why do set-pieces continue to cost us?

We also discuss Matsuki’s surprise start, James Bree’s return to the XI, Flynn Downes’ involvement in the derby flashpoint, Player of the Week nominations, and look ahead to a lunchtime trip to Stoke City — another side dealing with an injury crisis.
