Ken Tone Posted yesterday at 09:42 Posted yesterday at 09:42 Bear in mind one meaning of culture is a medium for growing bacteria. 😉 1 4
ChrisPY Posted yesterday at 09:43 Posted yesterday at 09:43 ‘A culture is a group of specific bacteria strains’ Sounds about right. 2 4

Pamplemousse Posted yesterday at 10:37 Posted yesterday at 10:37 It'll be a northern city, it always is 3
Patrick Bateman Posted yesterday at 10:46 Posted yesterday at 10:46 It'll be a city that "needs investment" (i.e. a bit of a dump). A city like Southampton is never considered to "need investment" ... I doubt Portsmouth will win either, they are tarred with the same brush as us, being Southern.
Challenger Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago (edited) Hope they wheel out Westwood to help promote the bid as he's their city,s emblem. Edited 23 hours ago by Challenger 5

Sadly they probably have a good chance of winning it as on the subject of fiction, they’ll no doubt trumpet the fact Charles Dickens was born there. As was Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Both fucked off at a very young age but that’ll be conveniently overlooked. But as we know from local skate folklore, both Dickens and IKB were pioneers in their field, and founder members of the Victorian era 657 crew. IKB among other things was keen on railway stations and saw them as a meeting point for ‘firms’ to get together and travel around the country for a punch up. Edited 19 hours ago by Badger 2

IKBs father Marc was a French asylum seeker who came to Britain via the USA to escape the French Revolution, I am sure the few will embrace him as they have other immigrants.
Charlie Wayman Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Despite the mockery, when it comes to culture Portsmouth has a lot more going for it than the cultural desert that is our home town. 1
Marsdinho Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago "the necessity of living in the midst of the diabolical citizens of Portsmouth is a real and unavoidable calamity. It is a doubt to me if there is such another collection of demons upon the whole earth" General James Wolfe (1758) 2 5

No wonder he headed off to Canada to fight the French, preferable and less violent than staying in Portsmouth.
