Several players who haven't landed a proper tackle in months found the beast within - rather than intimidating, all the spitting and abuse just fired them up so we showed way more commitment than we have in some recent sorry defeats. My fear was a pathetic no-show, it was nice to see some fight. Agree with that. Shame we didn't win but you can't accuse the players of not putting the effort in which hasn't been the case in a number of games this year. 1
Maggie May Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I’ve watched the highlights and we were better than them all over the park. If Armstrong puts those chances away, it’s a rout. Let them have their moment.

The media never mention it though so they get away with it and therefore it'll continue. Yes, remember the Luke O'Nien incident against Sunderland in the playoffs a few years ago. Bunch of inbred neanderthals. 1 hour ago, Appy said: None of the Skates’ “chants” have any words do they? Just noises and saying “Portsmouth” "Ner ner ner ner ner Portsmuff"! Bestest in the world...

For all the people loving the Downes tackle I thought it was a daft thing to do at that point in the game. It was the only part of the game where we looked to have a semblance of control and were knocking the ball around relatively comfortably having just taken the lead. All of a sudden that happened plus a couple of other incidents with us getting involved in pushing and shoving and it gave both their players and crowd a huge boost and changed the momentum. Yep. "Quieten the crowd"
davefizzy14 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) We deserved to win that yesterday. We could have been at least two up at half time. Leo's goal and celebration were class 😊 I thought Peretz and the back four of Bree, Stephens, THB and Welington were excellent. Really solid, as were both Downes and Jander. Really committed. Leo, Arma, Azaz and Matsuki all worked really hard. Everyone gave it their all. COYR 😊 Edited 2 hours ago by davefizzy14 2

Patrick Bateman Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I just noticed in the handbags "melee" with Flynn, that Peretz jogged all the way from his goal to have a look, gave Flynn a well done pat on the head and jogged back 😂 Peretz might end up being a cult hero too. 1

I noticed this at the time as well, just when we should be killing the game, quietening everything down Downes decided to the complete opposite and gave them momentum. Didn't need it at all. We battled well, but to show we really played well under pressure we should have not let the occasion get to us and shown calm heads when needed. We just constantly dropped down to their level. 2

No stewarding or police checks, free to do whatever they want. Our support trying anything like that at St Marys would be slung out. Similar approach to the two pitch invaders that came on. Once the stewards woke up, ours was clattered to the ground, theirs had an arm to their shoulder and guided off. I know its a cliche and we're obviously all biased, but they really are a weird bunch down there, a properly odd bunch of people with a chip on their shoulder they will never, ever shake. 4

I am glad we didn't fold and we definitely matched them in the physical battle throughout the game, but I do think we let the occasion and atmosphere get to us. Needed more calm heads to let our quality show, put our foot on the ball and get our passing going, slow the game down at the right time, not charge around or fly into tackles that weren't needed. Anyway, a good learning curve for a lot of the players and hopefully brings the squad together a bit. Think we'll get to do it all again next season, so hopefully a few lessons learnt our side.
