The League Cup match in 2003. Very much Beattie’s night. Some proper trouble before the game. Their fans disgraced themselves during the Ted Bates ‘silence’. Stupid of Lowe not to wait to the Charlton game but neanderthals will be neanderthals. It was a national talking point and brought them a lot of shame.

As I live in Botley, train home would be much more convenient, quick and direct (especially if we lose).

But what's the score if you don't get back on the bus, guess there's fuck all they can do about that after the game?

I know it was the Carabao Cup and not the league, but it feels like the absolute twatting that we gave them in their oh so intimidating shed a few years ago often gets overlooked.

4-0. Macca had a great game, Ings ripped them to shreds, Cedric knocked one in and then Redmond delivered the KO.

Some quality finishes that night.

They say if doesn’t count as we were two divisions higher, but can’t wait to bleat about that FA cup game in 2010 with a squad of players they couldn’t afford to pay.

Not at all it was amazing and have lived off it the last years, I just got thinking about the league. Seems to be we win at home and lose away, until the last season we played them in the league in our promotion season and their relegation, and this season. Last 3 have been a draw, will something give?

I've thought a lot about this and I wonder what they'd actually do if people broke out of the 'sterile area'.

Is there actually a crime they could charge anyone with? Would they show common sense and let people out in an emergency?

It's not been an issue so far due to every game being a draw so they've not had to deal with an angry away support but surely at some point there'll be a few who try it.

Back in the early 2000s, I studied at Portsmouth University. I lived in Fratton whilst I was there and often wore my Saints shirt out and about. Never had any issues whatsoever. I had a part time job and on Saturdays we used to listen to the football on the radio and we had loads of banter about the scores, all in good humour.

My housemate worked at the Ladbrokes next to Fratton park and was on good terms with Steve Claridge because he saw he daily placing his bets 😂

When you were there, you didn't happen to see a fella covered in bananas, did you? He said he went home from Fratton covered in them, but he didn't say whether he taped them to his clothes or just balanced huge bunches of them on top of his head. If they were hanging down in front of his eyes, it would explain why he couldn't see all the Saints' shirts in Portsmouth, especially the yellow away ones.

What an experience that was, my first derby game as a 16 year old. The buzz of Beattie scoring right in front of their lot, infront of us in the Northam. The only other bit I really remember was the relief of getting the late penalty to get it over the line.

Thought I’d look back at the lineups, no fucking about with 4 subs on the hour mark in those days:

Southampton: Niemi, Dodd, Lundekvam, Michael Svensson, Higginbotham, Fernandes, Delap, Telfer, Marsden (Prutton 75), Beattie, Ormerod (Delgado 84).
Subs not used: Blayney, Anders Svensson, Pahars.

Portsmouth: Srnicek, Zivkovic (Foxe 83), De Zeeuw, Stefanovic, Taylor, Stone, Smertin, Faye (Sherwood 75), Berger, Sheringham, Ayegbini. Subs not used: Wapenaar, Primus, Schemmel.

Just realised that this is on Sky sports+ but not on "actual" Sky. Apparently having 2 channels each for the WSL and PL is more interesting....

I don't have sky on my TV, but I do have a log in for SkyGo, so I can watch Sky via my Playstation (or phone/iPad) but as far as I'm aware, cant access red button services through Sky Go.

I know I can get Sky sports+ in the Sky Sports app on my phone or iPad, but does anyone know how I can watch it on my TV? Annoyingly you can't cast things from Sky to a TV...

You could try and use a USB C-HDMI adapter cable from your phone to the TV

This is a season defining game. Win this and we look up the table and think it's possible to still make the play off places. Tonda's forgiven for his recent poor performances and confidence is sky high. Lose and...nope, not worth thinking about.

Sounds like it'll be a draw.
