My son and myself were like please not Woody facing when you have Stubbs at the other end just bump and run for one - when he hit the six we just looked at each other with a well what do we know look! 😂🤣 1
Toadhall Saint Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Back in action today - men away at Kent, we should have enough about us but it’s T20 so who knows. The ladies take on Durham at the rose bowl.

The ladies take on Durham at the rose bowl. St Lawrence Ground with its shorter boundaries tends to be high scoring. Their batting line up is dangerous - Crawley, Drummond-Bell, Billings and Stewart (whose six broke a window on Friday night v Notts) - but their bowling whilst on paper decent, perhaps being too samey, struggles to defend hence losing last 3 blast fixtures. 1
Window Cleaner Posted June 28 Author Posted June 28 Kent's bowling is woeful, still that's good for Hants right!
Gloucester Saint Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Vince was going to get a score at some stage. Astonished at what I’m watching at Trent Bridge - Stokes’s retirement was saddening but I understand it. Opening the batting? Giving his wicket away when set? Brook the wanker holing out for 21 off 9 balls. NZ are down to 2 fit fast bowlers and obvious to grind them down and put away the bad ball. But no, Bazball at its worst. New coach please. 1
badgerx16 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I think we were 20 runs short, our innings stalled after over 15. I also don't think Baker is a T20 bowler.
Gloucester Saint Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Looks like a Kent win - they are a very good side in this format, as are Hants.

Hodgey Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Not a great performance all round, even Vince whilst great with the bat made some questionable bowling decisions. I don’t get Baker as a one day player - he doesn’t take wickets and is expensive. You can’t just bang it in at 85mph every ball in T20 - you need variation. Overseas had a bad game, one getting injured, the other not firing and shelling an easy chance. Agree with above, we were poor batting in last 8 overs and left 20 runs on the table which was ultimately the difference. Still been a great run and in a good position 1

He is or was a prospect but his talents don't seem to be being well developed. Probably needs to move to a county with a real bowling coach. 1
Toadhall Saint Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Baker just wants to bowl fast which doesn’t help matters - I like to see a fast bowler go about his work but the best fast bowlers mix it up a bit short/full, fast/medium the last thing you need to be is predictable. Personally I prefer Lumsden. At least the ladies won again. On to Sunday for a double header
Picard Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Dawson and Baker off to play for England for the next few games.
Weston Saint Posted Tuesday at 10:42 Posted Tuesday at 10:42 I am surprised by the comments on here relating to Baker. H is highly thought of by England and Hampshire. He has a talent that he needs to hone. Exposure to all types of games is the right way. He is getting better and is being mentored by Abbott on field for Red ball. Let us see how he further progresses before saying he is no good for one format or another.

I don't like how he's being rushed into the England setup tbh... He should be playing every game for Hants and honing his craft. Has the pace, but needs to develop consistency and variation. Otherwise agree that we shouldn't be criticising too much at this stage. We desperately need to develop some young talent 3
Toadhall Saint Posted yesterday at 19:19 Posted yesterday at 19:19 Good couple of Blast games at the bowl tomorrow. We owe Kent one and the ladies should get a win. 1

We desperately need to develop some young talent Bethell drove England to a good win today despite all the hype around wonder boy - he clearly is very talented but hadn’t played on a proper wicket like Old Trafford’s before. All part of learning. That surface ought to be the standard Lord’s is held to - no excuse for the slow, low crap they’ve produced for years. I know it won’t happen but I’d make it a white ball only venue if the MCC won’t dig it up and get a surface where the keeper isn’t taking the ball at their ankles. Can use a drop in pitch next summer if needed. As for England, that doesn’t cover over the cracks of pure disorganisation. Won’t get any better with Harry Bungalow as Test captain.

Bethell did well but a single Indian bowler lost that game single handedly. India bat well but their bowling is sub standard overall. 1
Hodgey Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Good come back from Baker today, and good result that without Dawson. Removing Billing was key as his ramp shots have pace bowlers second guessing themselves. 1

Looking good, Vince regained some form and Weatherley clearly happier in white ball where less movement so white ball contract probably suits everyone next year. Great comebacks with the ball by Baker and Currie, Billings as you say removed by Currie probably tilted the chase our way but Fuller removing Muyeye after getting to 50 off 30 balls equally crucial.
