the police horse and dog stables/kennels is about 1/2 mile away from the football ground so it's no major effort to get a lot of horses and dogs there. also Bristol city supporters aren't the best in the world and the local police have had a lot of problems with them over the years.

I believe the riot police had targeted some guys who had caused trouble before the match. Using Police intellegence they arrested the alleged trouble makers at the final whistle.

There about 15 saints fans being escorted back to the station by 40 riot police and 4 meat wagons.

I accidently got nutted by a riot policemans visor, as a saints fan pushed the back of his helmet.

Complete policing overkill - rescources drafted in from Wales, the Midlands and Yeovil, it seems our intelligence made a complete balls-up (again) and wasted yet more thousands of pounds of tax-payers money. There were literally hundreds of them, all clobbered up in riot gear like they were expecting world war three. I've got a feeling the head of the Saints intelligence unit is in for a b0ll0cking Monday morning as they were had prepared themself for a risk that was far from present. I was one of the few penned in after the game, hadn't done f//k all wrong but were held back against our wishes and then marched all the way back to the train station. Going to football these days gives the authorities the right to treat you like a ***** it seems.

An absolute joke, there was at least 20 riot police on foot, 3 meatwagons, 2 cars and 2 on horseback escorting about 10-15 lads! What a f*cking joke.

I don't know what they were expecting but the Southampton Intelligence Officer is in for some sh!t for that level of policing he would have requested.

That is nowhere near the normal level that Bristol police fans, only Cardiff and Rovers get the same treatment according to one of them.

Accoding to other sites the heavy duty police presence was due to the death threats that have been made towards our board and some of the team.

Don't doubt what you post,but what b0ll0cks!

We are not Milwall or Leeds. No one is likely to go armed with a view to 'razoring' Lowe or Wilde for Christ sake.

Saints fans are fairly meek in their approach to all this.It is almost "well,we are not paricularly happy so we might have a protest, meet in the town, walk to the ground together and shout a few slogans...with a Police presence of course,if thats alright with you Mr Lowe..".

Given your location you could pop round and see old rosey chops for a word yourself

Don't think I'd be able to slip in under the radar and security of Fortress Withington.I shall however keep a close watch on Waitrose in Cheltenham as there has been a previous sighting there.

Lowe and Wilde stopped attending games in December anyway didn't they?

must be said, for all their riot gear etc i actually found them quite helpful in directing me to the shuttle bus to the station etc. Living in exeter ive come to realise how ridiculous the ratio of old bill to people is in the west country, especially here where theres f*ck all crime tbh

We were in a small pub about 3/4 of way from station to the ground when in walked at least 3 of the "Maze Hill" participants accompanied by several other Saints fans ! I guess they are all on the NCIS football offences register (or whatever its called). When we left the pub it was surrounded by police awiating (I assume) to accompany them to the ground. That may be one explanation for the heavy police presence.

The police can't win though, can they.

If it kicked of like the last time in Bristol then they'd be criticised for not policing enough. If you want someone to blame, blame the muppets that caused the trouble last time.

You obviously weren't in Bristol Saturday

On arrival at the station yu were met by a wall of Police3 in Riot gear.

In the ground despite there being no trouble at all, the Police decided half way through the second half to surround a complete block of Saints fans for no reason at all, obstucting the view of many and likley to provike trouble not stop it.

After the second goal I left the ground so missed the goings on in the ground at the fianl whistle, but once outside the ground there was a wall of police, until you got into the road by the park where you came into contact with the City fans. In this location which was a potential trouble spit if ever here was as this is the route all fans going back to the station had to take there was not a Policeman top be seen.

The Police seemed to have just one agenda, nick as many Saints fnas as possible, Crowd safety appered to be the last thing on their agenda.

Which means what Lordswood? Cat A are the best behaved or the worst? And what is the range, Cat A - E ?

A is the best behaved,no need for police. Ala norwich or Doncaster etc.

B is for ones with a small trouble following such as Pompey, Coventry, birmingham etc. Policed to a certain level.

C is for teams whose fans consistantly cause Aggro at away games, heavy policed with public disorder units. Generally at SMS cat c games would be millwall, Pompey, Bristol, Cardiff etc

Southampton have been a cat c team at most away groundsthis season

Remember the days when the team were Class A = very entertaining side and the fans were considered a bunch of friendly fans who were no trouble. ****ing RL again the ****.

lol chocco,i remember the team being class a but i think your memory might be hazy about the fans ;-) must be all those years breathing in the fumes from the xerox machine.

I think we're obviously worse when we travel with a lot of fans - i.e Southern games. For the Northern away games there doesn't seem to be an atmosphere.

I was really embarrassed to support Saints when at QPR last season when a load of Saints chavs were on a tube train swigging lager and swearing in front of an elderly couple. It's probably a sign of the times though and they are not brought up to respect their elders.

we drove past them on the bus, with a load of city fans who were laughing because a lot of them were women!

For some reason I always seem to get extra p!ssed at QPR :-)

Oh dear.

Please tell me you're joking?

No i'm not joking. Loutish behaviour isn't big and it isn't clever.
