Whilst we are talking about Ipswich players saying nice things about Saints, here is what Richard Wright said before the game.

"Richard Wright hopes Southampton do enough to win their battle against the drop this season - but only after Tuesday's game.

The Town 'keeper finished last season on loan at St Mary's from West Ham and played a leading role in the club's successful survival bid, making seven appearances.

He has fond memories of his time there and speaking to the Club website he said: "I really enjoyed it at Southampton.

"It was a tough spell in football terms because the club was fighting relegation from the Championship at the time so the games were tense but the club survived in the end and that was obviously fantastic.

"Going there also enabled me to play first-team football every week and that is what I wanted.

"I was staying down there during the week so I could sense the tension around the place, the pressure that was on the club and the players. I was aware they were obviously very important games but I was also aware that my livelihood wasn't really at stake because I was always going to go back to West Ham.

"I loved it though, great support, great club and I was delighted to play my part in helping Southampton stay in the Championship. They are in a fight again to stay up this season and I hope that they can win it again but without taking any points from us."

I feel that he wouldn't say anything bad about us...especially as come next season he could be a management possibility? Ipswich are at the end of their tether with them, and Wotte is only here till end of season as it stands.

Fair play on the comments, I hope that what he says comes true and we get ourself out of this mess! I truly believe if we survive this season then we could have a good one next year!

Big question though is consistancy. If we stay up and do well with Woote is everyone happy with Lowe staying. If a new owner comes in (like last year) will they part company with the current manager and want to do things their way.

Depending on the outcome this could (once again) be a very interesting summer!

TBF I thought that last season and look what happened. However, back to JM, I always liked him as a player and as a manager. Talks honestly and doesn't make excuses.

I thought Dave Jones said Cardiff were rubbish and Saints deserved to win?

He did .... but only after a load of miserable carping about the the penalty decisions regarding the two handballs. Didn't express an opinion on the penalty we might have had and which would have made the winning margin bigger, though.

Still, he does feel - somewhat unrealistically - that he has an axe to grind as far as Saints are concerned.

That is exactly what I thought on the day Saints stayed up last season :(

We would have had a reasonably good season without the danger of relegation imo had Lowe not weilded the axe on pearson. But its history I guess no point dwelling on it.

Its chicken and egg though because Pearson would have left because we were being forced into a position where no matter who was in charge, we were in a position where we had to make drastic cutbacks and let go of key players like Rasiak, John, Davies etc... and I'm not sure how happy Pearson would have been following that.

It's difficult to speculate how we would have done though because Pearson didnt exactly pull up roots in his first few weeks as manager and we had on paper a much stronger squad last year to this year.

I would feel confident though that if we do stay up, we would fair better next season as the players would all have a bit more experience and know-how. It also looks as if making the cutbacks we did earlier this season has stabilised us to a point as we are now in a position where we are playing the likes of Euell, Saganowski and Size etc... who would all command a lot more in wages than our kids. Hopefully that will continue next year as well, should we stay up./
