After the game

Saw loads gathering outside where Charlton were coming out and there was a stand off. Heard a bit on Radio Hampshire afterwards with like 100 saints fans to about 30-40 Charlton. Charlton's doors were closed and they were kept in. I've also heard we then kicked those doors down and it all got a bit crazy. Can anyone shed any light?

Kicked the doors down!? Ha,what a load of ****e.Nothing happened at the stadium, just a few chavs who watched too much Football Factory giving it the large one with a group of Charlton fans. Stewards and police seperated the fans and then led a baton charge down Britannia Road to clear the way of Saints fans before escorting the Charlton fans into town, where it did kick off apparently.

Taken from my match report bit:

As for the trouble at the end, bit of a nothing really.

There were about 15-20 Charlton giving it large all afternoon (even moving seats just after half time to give a different stand some abuse from behind the netting) who came out only to be met by something like 500+ disappointed Saints fans in the North car park. The police quickly coralled the 15-20 rather worried looking Charlton fans back against the exit gate and then eventually took them back inside for their own safety.

There were a few hundred Saints fans stood outside where the Charlton fans were coming out.

Most Saints fans were stood watching the police with dogs and batons drawn, trying to impose some type of order between the opposing groups.

Most Saints and Charlton fans mixed ok .I personally had a few conversations with Charlton fans about the game afterwards and they seemed a decent set of fans.Lets face it they are in the same boat as us.But there seemed to be a few on both sides who seemed to want trouble.

I decided to leave after that.

There has been trouble up there for both the away games (past two seasons) and the home game last season, i have no idea why, there just has been.

Does not surprise me that it kicked off, we seem to have a minority at the club at the moment that will fight anyone including each other.

I was caught in the middle of the stand-off with old bill looking very threatening with their batons drawn protecting the Charlton fans from a large group Saints fans standing behind the railings.

It was not one of the most pleasant situations to find yourself in, I was behind a chap with Downs' who did not know which way to go, luckily the stewards got us out through all the Saints fans that were watching it kick off.

We don't need this at the club.

I punched some kid in a charlton shirt - just for sh1ts and giggles. Kid was only about 8 but got what he deserved!

Nice one! I tripped up a charlton fan on the way back to the station. I then stamped on his head until he stopped moving. Definitely the best bit about my day! SFC should be proud of my support.

I do hope you're joking.

As far as I could see there was a bunch of frustrated kids (and adults of similar IQ) realising they could no longer chant 'sack the board' & 'sack the administrators' was too complicated for them so they took their frustration out on a couple of dozen Charlton fans. All a bit 4th form & embarrassing, frankly.

If no one realises that post was an attempt at humour, they really are quite thick.

actually it was a humorous way to voice ones very real disapproval of football thuggery. It is known as satire. Frickin hell, some people need to lighten up a bit..

Please dont tarr those of us who have chanted against Lowe and the board with the same brush as those who caused trouble today.

Why don't some of the idiots on here realise that it AIN'T FUNNY.

If any of our prospective saviours are reading this forum I wouldn't blame them for having second thoughts.

Please don't drag us back to the 70's, i remember it all too well.

I wasn't laughing then either.

Oh you have got to be having a giraffe? Our potential saviours aren't going to be reading this forum! And if they are then I reckon they will be able to work out the implicit satirical content from the genuine thuggish chav talk.

Your user name tells me you don,t remember real football violence.

I do.

And don't think that all potential investors don't read forums like this.

It's called research, they will want to know everything they're buying into.

thats about it. Most were saints fans laughing and enjoying the show - with dozen or so away fans mouthing off behind line of police with odd -young- saints fans taunting them.

eh? Real football violence? As opposed to fake football violence? I remember it all too well. Growing up as I did in the 80s. The point is that by having a dig at something it doesn't mean you condone it. FFS, implicit in my post about stamping on a Charlton fan was that some idiots do think that it is the best bit about football and they really do think that their club should be proud of them..

Please, lighten up a wee bit!

I refer you to my earlier post on this thread. I saw no Saints fans laughing from where I happened to find myself. I don't think the old bill saw that either - it was ugly - especially as the Saints fans were taunting from safety behind the railings. The Charlton fans were up for it I agree but to pass off the behaviour of our fans as having a laugh shows a degree of misunderstanding of what happened.

I remember the bad old days of the 70's when I used to be a regular at Gillingham before moving south. So I know what I am on about.

not condoning it by saying there was laughter, as am sure if police allowed two sides to meet it would have got ugly, but there were loads of younger fans / male and female laughing and enjoying a show.

Walking around the back of the Itchen after the game it was all handbags; a hundred or so Yoof yelling 'You'll never make the station' to a bunch of Charlton that were corralled by a ring of police.

Walking through the car park towards the bridge we had a good chat to a bunch of Charlton lads; just mutually acknowledging the plight of each others team and wishes of good luck etc.

Took a couple of mates and their better halves to their first match at Saint Mary's. After the match we stopped in Yates for a quick pint before heading to the station and had the misfortune to emerge just as the Charlton fans and their escort passed.

A bunch of Saints yoof were acting like complete tossers and we were trapped between them and the police. We were forced to shelter in a doorway with an elderly couple who were also in the wrong place at the wrong time while the idiots threw things at the poice.

As the police baton charged I was politely informed that perhaps I would be attending the last couple of matchs this season alone.

These scum need life bans now.

Thought I was a lone voice, I hope there was lots of CCTV taken and perhaps something will be done.

I posted this in another thread.

A video clip i recorded when i was walking out. Is not the best quality but you can hear the chanting etc

A few Charlton fans have already replied, which expectly they post the "we won" stuff.

But one said

"If Showing Your Support Is Kicking Disabled People and Rushing Old Woman when Coming out of a Football ground then what does this tell us?"

Personally i didn't see much in terms of disabled people getting kicked. If any of our lot did that then they are a disgrace. "IF" they did that.

I didn't see this, but as I said earlier the chap in front of me was clearly dis-orientated, as we were passing through the police did start advancing so we were caught in a "funnel". It was quite difficult to get through the throngs of on-looking Saints fans and out of harms way.

I dread to think if someone in a wheelchair was in this situation. My own daughter is disabled, although not in a chair. I am glad she stayed at home today as she is a J-Saint and comes when she can.
