Amendments. Couldn't check the goal time but I was right about opposition, manager and striker surname, it was a "late" goal. Though they won quite a lot of late games so I'm surprised they were only in the relegation zone then, if that is true.
-
They went down when they lost at Chelsea in 1994/5ish, seem to recall Brian Stein scored the winner circa 90th minute, Bassett was the manager and it was the first time they'd been in the relegation places all season. I will now Google to find if any of this is true.

I wouldn't give much credibility to the comments of someone who think "Umbro" are currently in a position to offer any professional football clubs NEW kit deals at this point. He is clearly talking out of his arse, and in League 2 you just get whichever teamwear kit you're given from any of the bigger manufacturers, anyway.

I have my moments, but at least I haven't been pretending to be under 16 all season.
-
I did, actually.

Could be useful him moving away, the academy isn't exactly well known for our centre backs. You wonder if that's due to the maturity required or just that we shift the better ones to other positions.
-
No, happily married, you must be thinking of someone else (or playing the percentages?).
-
Yeah, I couldn't be arsed and it was only indicative, well spotted.

But there are 4 other teams below us along with Wigan. If they all draw and we lose we'll be a point worse off compared to all of them - but as the teams below us (especially Wigan) need wins to overtake us it will be better for us than any of them winning. Plus that would be 8 teams gaining 1 point each, better than 4 teams getting 3 each. Admittedly this includes West Brom for convenience, but in most cases the draw is the preferred outcome no matter what we do.
-
Yes, but the only scenario where we will only need a draw in the last game almost certainly involves Villa being safe and more than 3 points ahead of us, and Wigan within 3 points but not nearer than 1 having hugely improved their goal difference and having to beat Villa. ANOTHER unlikely situation.
-
If Wigan lose, practically everyone will basically be safe, so yes, people will be reporting Villa as safe. Again, you pick one possible permutation of results (the worst possible one) and act like it's 1) likely and 2) the only possible outcome. If Wigan only get one point from the weekend and next midweek's matches, they can't catch us. If we win any of the next 3 matches we're definitely safe. And as well as that, there are 4 matches between teams around us this weekend, guaranteeing at least 4 sides around us will drop at least 2 points. This "perfectly reasonable" set of results basically has to include Wigan winning 3 of their 4 matches, by the way. They haven't won any of their last 3 (and even winning 3 of the 5 before that has still left them adrift).

He is an appalling ball player who is only good at massive long headed clearances and there is no conceivable way he is signing for a side that shipped Andy Carroll out on loan because he didn't meet their precious ball-playing needs. Basically found his level when hoofing headers away for Reading last season, utterly out of his depth in the Prem with the midget Mariappa preferred to him and probably isn't in Adkins' plans. Pretty slow too, though very committed to the challenge. He was "solid" for Saints whilst falling down the leagues but we were pretty desperate for central defenders that season.

Can I just point out that although Sheff U were 10 points clear of the relegation zone at one point, at the time they were still only in 15th place, there were 11 games left and they were also never higher than 15th all season long. Hardly comparable to any teams this season for instance, Saints in particular have been up to 11th as recently as 2 weeks ago and the spread of points is completely different across the division. FWIW I'll be at Wembley on Sunday for the Conference Play-Offs, begging Newport to get back to the FL for the first time in 25 years. Shame about Aldershot, but on the bright side, there's always Fratton.

My money would be on and by Thursday next week.

WE could even be safe by the time we face Sunderland, even if we lose to Spurs.
-
Only if he learns to somehow get away with assaulting the striker off the ball every time the ball goes near him in the air like Williamson somehow does.

Must check my Facebook for the post proclaiming "things Redknapp will do", when he was appointed... I reckon I can tick them all off now. Has he fielded a team of kids in the cup to show the chairman they're not good enough ? Ah, no, they were out of the cups, that'll be in September then, just before he leaves.
-
Yeah, that would explain why Fernandez has been going out of his way to ensure Redknapp doesn't get the chance to say "the chairman doesn't want me" and backing him into a corner where he can walk out or he can try and get them back up...

All 10 outfielders were at various stages of knackered, and the 7 outfielders left on there proved the point nicely. I posted a lengthy message on here about that 15 minutes of capitulation, detailing every single pass and the repeated turnovers. We gave the ball away over and over again and made some utterly dismal choices all over the pitch which all clearly pointed to fatigue (the most obvious of which was to hoof the ball at Mayuka endlessly to little success instead of trying to play it through midfield).

"People" did think Shaw might not be ready, yes, and he wasn't based on his performance in the Stevenage match - but the manager obviously gets to see more than just that one occasion and is in a better position to judge. The difference here is that we're not getting the "Targett is ready" noises, if anything we've been getting the opposite, much as "people" are keen to see him. I think "chuck him in, nothing to play for" rather underestimates the size of the task he'd be facing and the possible impact on his career - which is not to say Sunderland away or Stoke home would be better.
-
No, Ferguson did that with his substitution. What Adkins did was bring on our best 3 subs in their best positions to try and sure up 10 exhausted outfielders who were already knackered and falling apart.

Lukaku didn't do much that impressed me to be honest. Went around the keeper well, but we didn't ask him to do anything difficult to get through us. In terms of game changing performances you'd have to go some to beat Paul Scholes' 15 minutes. Hazard also operated in orbit of Lampard for an impressive 20 minute spell. Not buying the van Persie stuff, he's a great player but we gifted Man U their goals and he didn't have to do much either.
