  1. Gobern is a centre midfielder from what I can see. He came on and did a great job there at Leeds. I'm tempted to say he should be picked ahead of Wotton, but I'm reminded of his ten minute nightmare at Bristol Rovers. I think Gobern has a decent future at CM.
  2. except when he got the wrong side on one occasion in the second half and we were left in serious trouble, not to mention giving away free kicks because he is far too small and ends up with his arms all over the attacker. That said I'd agree that he had a pretty decent game yesterday, but the problem with Perry is that he doesn't win enough headers and when he does they are never clean headers that clear our lines. They often just go up in the air and we are still under massive pressure. We may not concede immediately but it gives the opportunity for the oppostion to start another attack. Compare this to how Jardi and Trottman win headers and the ball goes miles. I'd add that unlike when Jardi and Trottman played together we no longer look safe at set peices. Yesterdays goal was down to Lampert being beaten in the air, but dominant centre backs like Jardi and Trottman tend to be everywhere and win everything, Perry just doesn't dominate and we are often stretched. The flip side of course is his experience and the way he nips in at times. He is as honest as the day is long and throws everything at the ball - as he did yesterday. I'm perfectly happy with him as cover, but as a starting centre back against the top six sides I don't think he's quite up to it. He got asway with it at Leeds. Beckford gave him the slip time after time and on another day with better finishing he could have had a hattrick and then I wonder how many would have lauded his performance. The Huddersfield game will be interesting. He got run ragged at their place and was so bad Pardew rightly subbed him. Lets see how he handles Rhodes et al then.
  3. Jardi, Lambert and Schneiderlin in equal measures

  5. really, christ I wonder who I was watching then. About time I bought a programme at games so I can identify these players. They must have another fella then that can play a bit. Not sure what number he was, 9 I think. I hold my hands up then, I don't know if Jackson is good enough for us.
  6. even when fit I'm not impressed. AS mentioned previously Logan is the best right back I've seen at SMS since Kyle Naughton from Sheffield United turned out against us. Pace is severely lacking in our back four and even a fullback can help, not to mention his threat going forward. Full back need to be able to attack as well as defend these days and Logan showed that by pushing on you can keep the winger quiet (as he did Lallana).
  7. agree with you except for Gobern being cover for Lallana. Gobern is an centre midfielder from what i can see. I think he will turn out to be a decent player, that said I still think a top class central midfielder is needed as James and Wotton are not the answer. Stephen Dawson at Bury is the man.
  8. if you saw the Gillingham game you will have seen a striker completely stared on any supply whatsoever. In the end he dropped so deep Lambert could have marked in. Despite this you could still see he was a class act with pace, a touch and vision. Drop him in a side that opens teams up and creates plenty of chances and he looks like he'll score goals to me.
  9. maybe they won't let you through the turnstyle without a kid or two in tow.
  10. nice. It still surprises me to find people on here that don't see how much better he is compared to last season. In my opion its him, not Hammond that is running things in the middle. I'm pretty sure I said lkast season numerous times that he was only 19 and he needed a lot more time to find his feet. He's now found them in my book. I dare say his rise has been helped by the drop in league, but he is right up there with Jardi and Lambert as our most important player and time for a new 5 year deal me thinks.
  11. Agreed. Letd look at players on their way up, not down. Simeon Jackson is the talent that is going to get a move to the Championship sooner or later. That's the kind of player we need.
  12. actually he scored 20 goals for Blackpool in division 2 (the third tier not the Champoinship) in the 2001/2 season before joining us in December and scoring 1 goal in the next 18 Premiership games.
  13. length of existing contract will be a factor.
  14. had no fears about Hammond and Lambert at all, but the question is can we hold on to Schneiderlin and Lallana? The fact both have been in tremendous form and yet we have not heard a dicky bird about new contracts for either suggests neither is interested in signing one. In Lallana's case is it a case of only promotion will stop him leaving. He said he would see the season out, but after that? If Morgan continues to play as he has done then the Championship beckons.
  15. could not agree more. I'm still to be convinced how much money is saved by having fans seperated by sections as there has still been a Police presence at games and there appears to be just as many stewards working on a match day as there was before. Anyone able to confirm if `redundancies' were made in stewarding when the sections were closed?
  16. I thought Abdu was decnt agsint us, I wonder how he has done since then. I agree Taylor might be worth a look. Shame we didn't snap up his mate Ardley in the summer.
  17. RB: Logan (the guy on loan at Tranmere from Man City) CB: King (Gillingham) or McCracken (Wycombe) CM Kevin Nicholls (Luton) or Stephen Dawson (Bury) CF: Simeon Jackson (Gillingham
  18. I guess I just don't like Perry. He gives everything but its just not good enough for me. Jardi can do little wrong in my eyes. I'm not convinced by Hammond either. This is certainly his level, but without Schneiderlin we look short in the middle of the park.
  19. we're not far off score wise, but I think you do Leeds a slight misservice. They were first to the ball everywhere, they ran the centre of midfield, Lambert was nullified completely and they had Waigo next to Thomas the entire game. You're right they did give it away a few times under no pressure at all, but in tricky conditions they were the team coming forward. We competed hard but we were hanging on in thr firdt half at times and but for some timely interceptions by Jardi, and Waigo we would have been carved open. I will say this though that with Schneiderlin in our side it would have bene a different game. For me he is a huge player for us. Much bigger than Hammond thats for sure.
  20. Simple. Without question James gave the ball away more than any other player, and thers no comparison between Jardi with Perry. Jardi does his best to bring the ball down and play whereever possible whilst Perry is just terrible in posession so gets rid as quick as possible. I thought Hammond was ineffecyive but didn't give it away all that much. He just never got hold of it. Bart was OK apart from that terrible slice at the end.
  21. he was very very average against Walsall and Leeds IMO. I like him, he's got a great first touch, passes the ball well and is a good footballer. However, he runs like he's in treacle, that short stride of his means he looks quicker than he is, and thats why so many tackles are sliding tackles.
  22. spot on. He was massively at fault. He wasn't the only one giving the ball away cheaply. Perry and James' distribution put us on the back foot time after time.
  23. do you really think Hammond is CCC standard? Is that the general consensus on here? For me he's a decent footballer, but he's too slow.
  24. Beckford looked good to me. Yes he didn't score and yes he had a tantrum when subbed, but he has genuine pace, made excellent runs and had a very good first touch. I'd take him like a shot, but he won't come here.
  25. just back after a long weekend in snowy Harrogate. I have to say we got entirely what we deserved. Totally outplayed in the first half and we didn't improve much in the second. Leeds were decent and on another day they could have taken us apart in the first half. As for us, well our problems stemmed from central midfield where we were very poor indeed. For a long time now I've thought that we have looked a poor side when Schneiderlin was subbed in games and without him starting I think it is obvious to all that we struggle. Often players reputations grow when they are out of the side, but in Schneiderlin's case it is deserved. His replacement James was appauling and that is where we won and lost the game on Saturday. Leeds totally dominated the centre of midfield and that left us with little choice but to whack it down the channels. Why Pardew didn't take James off earlier I will never know. When Gobern came on we got hold of the game and looked like a decent side. I've always thought Gobern would make a central midfielder and on those 8 or 9 minutes he certainly will. Bart 7 one decent save, overall solid, one appauling kick out at the end that had fans tearing their hair out. Thomas 6 Had his hands full. Showed good strength to cover his lack of pace. Jardi 8 Held thigs together Perry 6 Slow and very average in the air. Get Trottman back in the middle. Harding 7 Another solid display. Lallana 6 some great stuff, especially ball retention and trickery, but not enough of it and now and then was too easily robbed. Held his position out wide. James 1 woeful, gave the ball away continuously Hammond 4 just never got hold of the game Waigo 2 nothing going forward and didn't track his runner leaving Thomas short. Lambert 4 largely annonimous. Connelly 8 Worked his socks off, brilliant first touch, and held the ball up well. Gobern 8 kept the ball and passed it well Antonio 6 did pretty well Trottman 7 caused them problems when we went long
