  1. Fair enough, I'll make it easy. 8th doesn't get Europe in any scenario. If non top 4 team wins the CL it just eats into the CL places for league finishes - eg 4th ends up in the Europa.
  2. take us through those eventualities please, clever stats man.
  3. Absolutely shocking complacency.
  4. Yes, is a nice read. He thinks (and he's probably correct) that the Newport game saved his Saints career. I think likely he would have been moved on without that performance.
  5. Quite, and we want as much pressure on Newcastle as possible. Burnley getting points on the board and then taking advantage of their games in hand is the best hope of dragging Newcastle back in it. I don't really know why anyone would want Burnley not to win today.
  6. Your point seems to be that a big club will probably win the cup and we won't. Which you are parading around like some exclusive genius insight that only clever old you has arrived at. When in reality it is a meaningless banality that barely needs saying. The rest of us would like Saints to try and win a cup.
  7. Nice to see ten years on that neither me or @moonraker have changed our opinion one bit. Some absolute effing gems in that thread.
  8. He never said that etc etc etc etc.
  9. Only when we got to Cardiff, but that was why we qualified, not because we were 8th.
  10. This is a forum tradition isn't it? Plenty of threads over the years of people convincing themselves that eighth means Europe when it never does. I think three slots max in the league: 5th - the only Europa slot guaranteed based on league placing 6th - if a CL team/team in 5th win the FA Cup 7th - if a team above win the league Cup (and this is now Conference not Europa) That's it. I don't think there is any scenario (team wins the CL but doesn't finish top 4 etc etc) that results in the team in eighth getting into Europe. Its a bit of a shame because I think clubs like us would love a bash at of Rapid Vienna or Honved in the Conference. Give us a couple of slots UEFA.
  11. Eddie Howe currently rubbing his hands together and checking how far the London Stadium is from the Millennium Dome.
  12. Big Jet TV is quite an addictive watch for this lunchtime.
  13. So surely that 1 out of 5 times undermines your entire point.
  14. It is a very clear indication of current and future demand. Which is not indicating a requirement to expand to 40k. There is no evidence of any further potential right now. A coach from Somerset or a train from West Sussex is not enough.
  15. We have built it, and we've never had a season ticket waiting list in 20 years of being at St Mary's. In which time we have finished top 8 and been in Europe. So they haven't come.
  16. "Players that don't cut it at the big clubs" include Romeu yes but also include Lemina and Hoedt. So is a more expensive and risky method than the one we are trying.
  17. Except some of the genius ideas on here are that some of our potential 50,000 mega fanbase is going to come from Bristol. So it doesn't quite hold that there are problems with Bristolians supporting their own club, but that they are going to suddenly start passionately supporting a club in a smaller city 100 miles away.
  18. I am starting to think that my many years ripping the piss out if this utterly ridiculous notion was just a gigantic waste of time.
  19. But not enough of those people to create a huge waiting list for season tickets or really any particular difficulty for a casual fan to get a ticket for an average Prem game with a minimal amount of planning. Filling a Southern Railway carriage or two with some expats from Guildford or Crawley does not make a case for a significant expansion of the stadium. I believe West Ham have a season ticket waiting list even now, with a 60k seater stadium. Someone will know better than me but I am not sure we have ever sold our maximum number of season tickets in any season. That's the foundation for stadium expansion.
  20. This is like slipping into a familiar pair of comfy shoes after a long break. #catchment
  21. Jesus wept.
  22. I think the point is that Semmens isn't talking to the clubs. He's talking to you. Its an interview on Five Live, not a conference speech at the Football Administrators Association. I repeat my earlier point. If he says "what you want to hear" then all that happens is you hold it against him the minute we sell someone or don't spend £38m on a player but Palace do. "He said we were challenging top 6 well it doesn't look like it to me".
  23. Did she say "for my sins"?
  24. The alternative is say a load of stuff about aiming to be regularly challenging top six and then when inevitably that doesn't happen people like you get pissed off because the CEO said we'd do it that time and he's a liar just trying to get season ticket money.
  25. Except in the last couple of years we've shown ourselves to be really rather good at recruiting. To be honest I am not sure how we could be any better than we've been. So the picture is as rosy as anyone could reasonably expect. Without sarcasm I have absolutely no idea what you are expecting.
