How do you make a quality player stay at Saints!
CB Fry replied to Saint Billy's topic in The Saints
Markus Leibherr would not have been pumping money in to turn us into a Chelsea/Man City. Really strange to see someone equate "love and affection for the club" with a desire to "pump huge sums of cash" into it to pi ss away on fees and wages. I am delighted we don't do that, and delighted we never will under our current ownership. -

It's a brilliant reason for players to sign. Anyone thinking Clasie, Mane and Co haven't considered this is nuts. If Mane ends up at Manchester United next year it's because he's been brilliant for us. Ditto Clasie in two years time. -
CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal

We don't need Celtic to lose. He's leaving whatever. I'd like them to win, personally. -
Your energy would be much better spent not on this thread but by single handedly saving Southampton Football Club again. Many of us will never forget what you did for us last year and we need you so bad right now.

I don't see three of those clubs as particular rivals anyway - the only time I have ever cared about Brighton or Reading was when we directly competed with them for promotion. Other than I have no particular interest what they do (exception being when Nigel was at Reading I wanted them to do well). Bournemouth I hope they stay up and do well. South Coast BBC South Today area as a hotbed of fierce football rivalry? Nah. All feels a little bit tin pot to me. With Pompey I take satisfaction from their current reduced state. Them not playing us hurts them so very much more than us not playing them.

I don't want Portsmouth. I'd rather not play them for a decade. Don't give them the oxygen.

Everton's twitter feed is brilliant. -

It corresponds with international break pretty much every season. -
Fair play that is an atrocious article.

You seem concerned about us making a "backward step". It might help the rest of us if you define what wouldn't be a backward step in your view.

Two thirds of those games featuring the players we've seen move on.

During the election campaign I think I must have missed all those occasions when Ed Miliband and the rest of the shadow cabinet "supported whatever the Tories say". You've got upset by Liz Kendall which has turned you into shouting "Tory" at every single person that doesn't support Jeremy Corbyn. Fine.
-
Absolutely.

Yes. People are moaning about what happened at the club a year ago. Not moaning about what happened on this forum a year ago. They are moaning about what happened at Southampton football club a year ago.

You win the sweepstake. When I sent that post I thought the obvious reply would come within about three posts and it did. Well done.

I knew you'd hate that. Looks pretty delicious to me. We're really good at recruiting players aren't we? We finished seventh last year. It was brilliant.

It's got nothing to do with an internet forum, though, has it. We've started poorly and people are moaning about stuff that happened at the club a year ago. Not on this forum. At Southampton Football Club. The stuff that happened a year ago at Southampton Football Club really hasn't got any relevance to now, for most normal people look at the success we've had at our most successful season for nigh on thirty years, the fact that the two players we've sold were obviously going and look ahead to go again with a manager we trust at a club that is built on the finest of foundations. You can blather on about web forums if you like, but don't really see why you would.

Last summer we signed Bertrand, Forster, Mane, Toby. All brilliant. Pelle, Tadic. Great. A winning transfer window. The summer before we signed Lovren and Wanyama, both brilliant. A winning transfer window. The summer before that Clyne, Jay Rod, Davis. A winning transfer window. The summer before that Cork and Fox, fairly quiet both both massive players in promoting us. Still winning. We could look back and think, on balance we've been brilliant at recruiting players. Brilliant. Maybe we've done it again. Or we could just go on about transfers out from 14 months ago and make out it makes any fu cking difference at all to where we are now.

It's amazing how much last season's success story really stuck in the throat of some people. Well, they've got a second bite of the cherry and they are going for it. That's the only explanation that our recent poor couple of performances are being greeted on here with a barrage of grizzling about players we sold between twelve and fifteen months ago. Bless them, they are having a great time with it. Would never happen at Everton you know.
-
That's pretty special.
-
I, for one, am looking forward to Tadic's entry in the next edition of All The Saints.
-
We are not going to finish higher than seventh this season. Do try to get used to it.

Maybe it's about people realising the club is here to do well in the football competitions we are participating in. All I read on here is people who want us to win a transfer window. Come March, let's all see how these breathtaking megastars that Stoke (oh why can't we be Stoke) and Palace (oh why can't we be Palace) and Newcastle (oh why can't we be Newcastle) are doing. I bet Man City are absolutely bricking it. Come March I reckon we'll be nicely mid table and still in at least one of the cups. Which would be just perfect.
